Red pudding!
I’d never heard of a red pudding! It’s from Fife, I’ve read.
Anyone know of a chippie in Edinburgh who sells such a delicacy. I want to try one but can’t be arsed going to Methil for the experience.

Don't know about chippys but, Bowman's Butchers on Junction Street sell it.
Found this, is it you?

As a huge fan of the white pudding supper and Scottish butcher/cafe black pudding I wouldn't mind trying this, never heard of it before.
I’ve never heard of it being served in a chippy but it’s fairly common and been around for years. It should found in most butchers. I’ve had it many a time in a fry-up for breakfast.
First tried it about 30 years ago from the Butcher that used to be in Duart Crescent. Haven’t seen it anywhere for years and certainly not in a Chippy. If I thought there could be a Chippy market for it I would look at stocking it but it’s so unknown it probably wouldn’t sell enough.
Are Black Pudding Suppers still a thing Scouse ?
Do they sell well?
With or without batter ?
Big fan of the Small Fish Supper myself
Normal Fish Supper’s are like a Whale Supper to me but ok for sharing with the Mrs
Remember I once saw Grant Stott having a sit in Chicken Supper in the City Restaurant Bridges
Do you do a lot of Chicken Suppers nowadays ?
Red pudding used to be quite common in Edinburgh chippies back in the 60s, I remember my Uncle scoffing one from a chippie in Corstorphine.
I always thought they were a Fife delicacy but I saw them in a Fraserburgh chippy last year.
My dad’s a Fifer and red pudding was his chippie of choice whenever we got chips when I was wee.
He’d sit in the car and send me in, I’d always have to have the “do you have red pudding” conversation, which annoyed me more than it should, as I was focussed on remembering the whole family’s order.
I’m not a fan, personally.
Is a red pudding a different thing from a Saveloy?
My first red pudding was in Aberdeen wasn't my last as there were many. Last one was in Anstruther. Can't say I've ever seen them in Edinburgh.

Scott Brothers of Dundee sell chippy style red, black, white and haggis puddings online. The batter's not quite right though - I think you'd need to deep fry them to get it crispy enough. Their pehs are pretty damn good as well.

I've never had a red pudding, but this threads got me craving one!
Red pudding suppers were in most Leith chippys in the 70s when i was growing up, when up i always get some from Andersons on junction st to take home.:yum yum:
My favourite chippy order, indeed I'm more inclined to get a chippy when I'm in Fife than when I'm in Edinburgh for this reason.
Sorry OP, but there's nowhere I've found in Edinburgh that stocks them.
The closest to you is the Flamin chippy in Inverkeithing. I walked there in the summer over the bridge for one - it was decent enough but there's better to be found deeper into Fife (if you're brave enough).
I think at some point up the East coast a "red pudding" turns into something else - presumably more akin to a saveloy mentioned. Had that disappointment up there before!
Scouse - you can be the man to bring the glorious red pudding to the capital. Start off with cutting it into quarters and selling them as bites intended as add ons to people's typical order until they're hooked on the good stuff. :greengrin
I fancy one now...
Drove into Anstruther last summer for a famous fish supper after standing in a huge queue
Have to say I was a tad disappointed and not a patch on Deano’s Loanhead
Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent fish supper in Edinburgh?
Argh I wish I could have a white pudding supper right now.
Has the Anstruther fish bar always been at the harbour ? I must be having a senior moment as I could have sworn when I visited it many years ago it was a lot smaller and just a fish n chip shop, it was further up the road and I remember a hotel opposite, or am I talking absolute kippers ?
Had a really good jumbo haggis supper from Good Catch in Musselburgh last night. Really good quality food from there.
My god the Nisa shop next door ain't half expensive though.
I see you've been shortlisted for the best chippy in Auld Reekie....good work Scouse :gwa:

Has it ever been retained before and out of curiosity did you find that trade increased after the award? :greengrin
ps I'm not a reporter or chippy owner!
This is only the second year of this particular awards so no it hasn’t. 😀
Yes but not sure if because of award or not, our reputation has grown massively and our Google review scores are the highest of other chippys and the same on Just Eat etc. It will be four years since we opened in November and growth has been steady. Any publicity like like the award etc must help I reckon.
That's great to hear, I was was always a regular at Rapido when I stayed in the area although I'm rarely down Broughton Street anymore so I've yet to sample your delights. Maybe next time I'm down at the Cask as the nights draw in I'll have to pop in for a pick me up :aok:
Said it a few times on here but if you’re getting a chippy and you’re somewhere close to Scouse’s place I couldn’t recommend it enough. Easily the best I’ve been to in Edinburgh and better than the other really popular ones in the area(ish) like L’alba D’oro and The Fishmarket. :agree:
Is the Deep Sea still there ?
I see a chippy in Dunkeld, Dunkeld Fish Bar, is selling Deep Fried Salmon Suppers
Maybe one for Scouse to look at😀
Got a (full) pizza crunch supper from the Pentland Fry in Juniper Green tonight - well that’s what I pre-ordered and paid for. Actually got a half pizza crunch supper which I didn’t realise until I got home.
The food was good but just a bit annoyed at not getting what I’d paid for
31 days till my white pudding supper after the game, there is one chippy that does it down here, just not the same.
10 chippies from Scotland have been selected to the shortlist of 40 in the running for best takeaway 2024.
None from Edinburgh or surrounding areas.
Tired to copy and paste all 10 but it looks a bit Jumbled anyway 6 come from Aberdeenshire.
