Fantastic player and career.
Sometimes the ‘model pro’s’ don’t get enough recognition but he really was good.
Think he’ll be a fantastic coach and wouldn’t be surprised to see him back at ER one day.
Some player! Even his last spell at Hibs I thought he was brilliant.
Wish the guy all the best and hopefully see him back at Hibs in some capacity in the future.
I thought he’d have played another season, but the opportunity is too good to turn down
He was a great player and has the right attitude, I'm sure he will do well and wish him all the best
Looking at the thread title, I can’t resist the tongue in cheek comment, ‘ he could fit in well with us, then’ after our awful cup final display. On a more serious note, I wish the guy well, a very good professional.

Agree totally fantastic professional and probably one of the best technical players we have produced. Hope it works out at Dubfermline as think I might as think Grant is a decent manager. Would be good to get Pars back where they belong in the top league.Quote:

Met him in a chippy in Bonnyrigg one evening it was after Leeds beat us in a friendly at Easter road circa 2004- 05 ? Still in his hibs gear , I was getting a scran before heading next door to the Calderwood ( pub ) And i asked for his autograph and had a blether about the game , He was bran new and chatted to me outside for 5 minutes as we ate our chippy then he said have a good night i'm away home ..Always remember what an easy going laid back guy he was , Pretty sure he said his family were Jambos
Folk through the years i know that know him say he was/is the ultimate professional all through out his career and gave everything for the cause
Always liked Whitts , That game at Easter rd against Hearts when he hit the post at the FF end and it bounced along the line and went out for a goal kick was ridiculous and sums up our brutal unlucky(ness) against Hearts
He’s had a great career. I didn’t begrudge him leaving although I wish he hadn’t gone to Rangers of course.
Super player, great lad and a wonderful career to reflect and build on. In his last spell we should have used him more as a CDM, imo.

Everything's been said but he was my favourite of that generation simply because he moved so easily with the ball and very exciting when he went on his slalom runs!
Lovely man by all accounts and possibly will suit the modern role of manager, hope so and would be good to get Dunfy up in Premier league.
Good luck to him and if he steps up to management I would love him to be a success at Hibs doing it.
Hope Steven does very well in the future. An excellent player during his time at Hibs and it was a pleasure watching him play.

With Whittaker there were no excuses. He never once bad mouthed the club when he left, the time was right and he made us a wad of cash which set us up well. Came back and performed well for us after having an outstanding career both along the M8 and down south. Very quiet down to earth guy who never even played in the Rangers’ hands when he was there, just got on with his job.Quote:

He will always be remembered at a great player in my eyes, one of the few who have won a cup whilst at Hibs.

Instead of trying to ingratiate himself (like other players there at the time) with their knuckledragging fans,he said at his age (think he was 28 at the time) there was no way he was going down the lower leagues and he was going to take care of his future elsewhere.
This off course didn’t endear him to the knuckledaggers who of course as is there way still continue to resent him.

He was excellent
A mate of mine knows him well, and we lost the son of a very good workmate of ours, well publicised at the time as the young lad, a very good Hibby, had suffered a long and terrible illness but battled through what he could on his bucket list with the help of crowdfunding.
Steven was very supportive and some of the contributions he made to the effort were inspiring.
A very good lad that I could wish nothing but well.

I might get a bit of stick for this but it’s easier for us as fans to be moralistic or judgemental but it’s different for a player. It’s their livelihood. I mean, I hate Rangers. I hate them so much that it might even transcend that of the tosspots from tynecastle. Rangers and their bigotry have been a stain on Scottish sport and society for decades. Celtic are little better but I find Rangers plumb even further depths. However, as a player with a family, if a club made you an offer where you would get a lot more money, probably more exposure to European football and more chance of winning trophies, it must be a hard thing to turn down. Like I said above, I was a bit disappointed when he left for them lot but he’s always seemed a decent guy and from what I’ve always seen of him, he’s done his best when pulling on a hibs jersey and served us well. I hate Rangers but I’m not going to say there is a permanent stain on Whittaker for having gone there. He did at the time what he felt was best for his career. I have zero issue with him playing for Rangers. In the 00's that was the done thing if you were a standout in a team in the SPL outside they two, he just so happened to go to Rangers. It's not like he went to Hearts or anything in a sideways move.
I thought some of the abuse he got in his final stages of the last spell was quite poor, and I say that while personally thinking he played too prominent a role in our starting XI for what he could deliver consistently at that time. But he was a professional who gave everything to the club and deserved more respect than from the usual moaners who like to abuse players before supporting them.
