* Nadine Dorries: 'Nadine Dorries, aka Mad Nad, is promoting David Davis as an interim PM. No, no, please, please, NO!'

* Andrea Jenkyns: 'Ghastly... a brainless nothing'

* Boris Johnson: 'He is Harold Wilson's George Brown without the alcohol... thinks he is the next Churchill. He has a self-deluding mock-romantic passion which is not rooted in realism. He is disloyal. His comedy routine has gone stale; his lack of seriousness in a serious job rankles; and he has little following among MPs.'

I think he has been pretty kind in his comments particularly in regards to Patel, Gove and Johnson. It just goes to show what they think of each other as supposed colleagues, yet, the English electorate can see no wrong and vote them in.

Did you know that Billy Connolly campaigned for the Tories in Glasgow many moons ago?








Edit: Maybe I should clarify that for anybody that didn't actually hear the story from Conolly himself, in one of his stand-up routines (though it was apparently a true story)


Apparently he was out with a school friend and came across a guy in the street handing out leaflets and colourful blue rosettes. They guy asked them if they would help out posting the leaflets, and he would give them a rosette each.

They excitedly agreed, and were handing out the leaflets when Conolly's Dad (a dyed in the wool Labour Clydesider) appeared and absolutely blew his top at his son handing out leaflets for the Tory party, slapped him on the back of the head and grounded him for a week.

It will be interesting to see what happens in England going forward and I do think it might be doing a fair few of them a disservice by saying that "the English can see no wrong and vote them in".

The last few elections have been a bit unusual and fought on different territory than usual. As they've gone down the nationalist rabbit hole they've ended up caring a lot more about issues like Brexit and have ultimately been prepared to turn a blind eye to a few undesirable traits to get what they want.

The opposition also have to take a bit of responsibility for not making a strong enough case for someone else and something else.

We'll see where they go in future. I loathe this bunch of utterly incompetent and corrupt charlatans as much as the next person but as Brexit disappears into the rear view mirror a bit, Scotland grapples with its own constitutional issues (with knock on effects for the Labour Party throughout the UK) then it will be very interesting to see who and what England will want in future, and why.

I think these threads suffer eventually from becoming a mass pile on in which we all post links to apocalyptic stories about how evil they are. It’s the echo chambers’ echo chamber.

There must be dozens of Tories on Hibs net that could try and defend either the Scottish iterations of Davison and dRoss, or Boris and chums? From the point of view of trickle down economics, nation first, something? After all, it’s not like nobody votes for them.

~20% of Scotland votes Conservative, some of whom are Hibs Supporters. Though I think the demographics of the Conservative vote would mean the percentage of those that support Scottish football teams is much lower than 20%.

Anyway, the few that admit to it on here have had a torrid time.

I think the current version of the Tory party, who have morphed into English nationalists, are very difficult for some more moderate Scottish Tories to defend.

The problem in England is that right wing (Tory) politicians have gone so far right that even they are beginning to see that it's damaging the country but they can't stop because the electorate want them to go further. That's the price they're paying for selling problems to the electorate that don't exist and therefore can't be solved.

The R number for Tory corruption has never been below 1 and they don't seem to even be bothered to hide it any longer. Sunak should resign in my opinion. He was approached unofficially and said he "pushed" his team. His team appeared to have acted. That to me is a resignation matter.

The leaders conduct is the benchmark and we now know it's pretty much the Nasty party norm, we are seeing new low points for breaking ministerial codes, bullying, lying and general incompetence.

Keep seeing people blaming the media but the media are reporting this. It’s the voters who have decided they don’t care about this and the opposition are unable to persuade them why they should care about this.

Fair point but I think you’re being a bit generous to the press here. Yes they have reported the stories but they don’t press it home when the minister involved tries to shut them down. When have you heard journos standing up and trying to ask questions repeatedly? There’s no scent of blood as you’d imagine there would be in other scenarios.

Profumo didn't resign because he had an extra-marital affair or because the person he was having an affair with also shared a bed with a Russian. He resigned because he lied to the House of Commons about having had an affair. He then felt such shame in having done so he dedicated the rest of his life to charity work.

To be fair Channel 4 news tried, they now get blanked at press briefings and the government rarely seems to put ministers up for questioning in any of their news/current affairs programming, other press folks seem silent on the matter and appear to give the government a less torrid time these days (probably not wanting the same treatment).

What is condemned as corruption in developing countries is called 'lobbying' here. There must be a complete overhaul of the lobbying system as part over an overhaul of the political system. The likes of Cameron believe they are entitled to use their influence for their personal gain; that the political system is there for their benefit, just another component of the privilege they are entitled to from birth.

For one thing, there's no evidence that Hancock has been "handed" those shares. There have been shares transferred to him, sure, but there are no details of how much he paid for them. That won't be in the public domain, but a decent journalist would have asked the question.

Secondly, they need new batteries in their calculator. It's actually 20%.

The Tories seem to have written off their chances in the rest of the UK and are essentially an English Nationalist party of the right wing variant. Due to the massive population advantage of England, they know they can still win with that strategy. However, it puts the UK as an entity at risk.

Very relevant point and consistent with what I see in the Tory heartlands every day.

I do think selfishness plays a part in all aspects of the parties support but from time to time and amongst "middle ground" and "softer" Tory voters you do hear rumblings of discontent when they are either more directly affected or feel like they are somehow missing out.

It won't bring about a sea change but there's definitely chat of sleaze going around that wasn't in evidence a few months back and Matt Hancock seems to be a more regular target of ridicule and disrespect as well as Bozo himself.
