Outstanding today, delighted he got his goal as well. Amazing that hearts let him go.
He reminded me today of when Gareth Bale broke through at Spurs. Every time he got the ball he did something positive and forward thinking with it and could have had two or three.
Josh was fantastic today and thoroughly deserved his goal, motm by a mile
Let's hope he picks up more trophies fir Hibs than the legend he is replacing.
Deserved MOTM today I think. There is room for improvement on his crossing but he looks threatening every time he’s on the ball. This season will do him good and I think he will be one to watch next season.
I actually thought he put in several great crosses today.
Overall a fantastic display, thoroughly deserved MOTM and delighted he got his goal too. :agree:
What's his contract situation?
Will go all the way in the game and will make Hibs a fair few quid. Such a likeable boy and will deserve everything he achieves.
Gets himself right up the pitch to support the attacks. Can see his fitness has really improved from the start of the season
Absolutely superb.
When does his contract run to?

I never got to see the game today as I was working but I was surprised at how everyone said he was amazing after he scored as before that I never saw him mentioned on the match day thread other than 1 cross and a shot
Delighted for him though as I thought his form dipped a bit after the rumours of Him leaving.
Good player and great prospect.
He looks the real deal to me, but I also thought that Paul Lovering would go on to play for Scotland so maybe I know diddly squat about left backs!!
Is this the best season an 18 year old has had for Hibs in modern history?
Cant remember what age Broony/thommo were but not sure they were as young as Josh?
He is doing very well, will still have good games and bad games still learning but showing great promise. To put things in a bit of perspective John Brownlee was playing for Scotland at 18
:greengrin
I think Josh is a diamond, a fantastic prospect. Played well today and was well chuffed for him that he got his goal. Only slight criticism of him today was that he floated a few crosses straight into the keepers arms, but this lad is good now and is only going to improve, just hope we an get a few seasons out of him before the "big boys" coming knocking .... and they will.
Could of had two if his bullet of a shot in the first half went anywhere else but the keeper (whom also had a good game) shame there weren’t any fans to celebrate with him but hopefully we will soon !
Was close to signing for McLeish at Birmingham

Thought he played really well, he's a really great young prospect and as some have said he will get better. He's not, at the moment, the best crosser of a ball, but he's also very deceptive IMHO, often he looks as if he just wants to run head down to the byline, but then he's able to cut inside between two players and put in a great pass. And it was great to see the look of joy when he scored today, good on him, he's got a bright future, of that I have absolutely no doubt.
We should be looking to roll that over with wage increases each year as he continues his development if it continues to be justified.
We should try our best to ensure top assets have 2-3 years left throughout their time here.
Edit: roll it over +1, I keep forgetting it's 2021.
Was terrific today. Often see young players break through, do well then go backwards.
This lad is getting stronger and better with every game. Looks every part of the first 11. If he can keep his head together and continue to progress, he's got all the attitudes to make a very good living from the game. Exciting prospect.
A superb performance today, the lad will be a real future prospect for us, have to thank our deluded neighbour's once again
🤣🤣🤣👍
Very good performance today, he's working very closely with Stevenson so hopefully that professionalism rubs off on him, he'll have the odd bad game but that's because he's still young, great prospect though.
Man of the match today.
Tremendous energy gets himself up the wing and put a few good crosses into the box.
We should definitely be looking to get him on a better longer contract , if he keeps progressing how he is can see him getting a big money move.
I thought his performance today was very much like the performances Tierney put in at Celtic.
How good a striker of the ball is he as well. Seems to hit it clean as a whistle every time he hits a shot. Been so unlucky with them this season so deserved a tap in to open his account.
Really enjoyed watching this boy. Most excited I've been about a youngster since Riordan. Hopefully the powers that be get him signed up on a proper contract pronto!
What a talent.
Hes visibly getting fitter and stronger as the season progresses. Hes got everything to make it at the top imo.
Get him tied down on a long contract. Stay another year and me could get record money in for him.
Josh Doig looks like a modern day left back for me, the way that he gets down the wing, puts crosses in and makes things happen taking players on, he showed yesterday that he can play a bit as well.
No no no, he’s the natural successor for Hanlon at centre back.....
Folk need to temper the praise for Doig with a bit of reality.
He did a lot of good things yesterday but there were also things he did that folk would have gone nuts about had we lost.
He is doing well in many aspects of his game but has lots to work on.
It's great that he has played so many games this season and as a result he has improved and looks comfortable which is half the battle for young players.
Like Porteous I don't see him leaving before the end of next season. Both are still in the improving decision making aspect of their development. Better learning that at Hibs.
We’ll lose him in the summer of 2022, I’m certain of it.
I’m enjoying every second that he’s here.
Doesn’t matter, under FIFA rules Hearts would be due a training compensation fee if we were to sell him before he turned 23.
“2.3 Compensation shall be paid on each occasion the player changes club up to the time his training and education is complete, which as a general rule occurs when the player is 23 years of age”

Fantastic player, really hope we hold onto him.
Are we his boyhood team or is it them?
Hearts wouldn’t be due anything for Doig surely?
They released him.
If they offered him a contract which he declined to sign for us that’s a different story.
I’m sure to be able to claim a fee you need to offer a contract in the first place.
Not sure what to make of the DJ playing the Lewis Stevenson song after his goal though,
In talks over a new deal

Excellent.
Yesssssss
Hibs have become much more proactive with contracts recently. I think losing some good players for either nothing or much less than we should have got has hit home.
Brilliant news.
Give him a bigger pay day on a longer contract and it'll mean we get a lot more money for him if offers come in, nothing more than he deserves though.
I hope he signs.
Would be brilliant to have him tied up on a longer and better deal.
I actually think he’s going to go on a bit of a scoring spree now. You could tell after he scored the goal how much more he wanted to get in the box and was driving forward.
Having someone of his size arriving late at the back post is a real threat and I think his goal will make him grow in confidence.
It really is quite incredible the progress he’s made in 6 months.
I’ve said on numerous times how the first couple of games I wasn’t convinced. It seemed more like we were forcing him into the team in the hope he would be good. He was poor defensively and although he’d bomb forward there was no real quality or composure.
That was clearly nerves and getting used to first team football.
Now he takes men on and whips great crosses in. Even on Saturday he showed great skill when the defender was quickly onto him, he nipped it round one side and ran round the other. The performances he’s put in especially against Tavernier, Frimpong etc show how good he is especially against better opposition.
He dominated the whole left flank.
He could go all the way to the top, he has everything and is still growing.
Really hope he signs an extension great young player and managed brilliantly by JR this season.
Took him out of the team earlier on when he started struggling a bit and has came back in and not looked out of place
New contract incoming for Newell
He will stay. Hearts should rightly be spewing. Maybe we could nab Irvine off them also and have the two Portys and Porto in the side.
He’s plenty ability IMO, is pretty highly rated and part of the Scotland u-21 set up prior to lockdown.
Think he’s playing with the wrong team myself but I know he is Hearts daft and has been there since he was very young so I doubt you’ll need to bother too much about him heading to us anytime soon.
I don't. But considering for years we consistently had our better players going to the last year or 6 months and leaving for less than they were worth, and now we're managing to keep a few (Boyle, Newall and getting the youngsters on longer deals) I'd say we're doing something a bit differently or better.
Don't really know why folk are all over me for this CRAZY suggestion.
Is there seriously any need for this patter? I just suggested we are doing something differently and seem to be more proactive with renewalls. I apologise for that obviously outrageous suggestion.
I'm quite clearly not suggesting we didn't offer players contracts. I'm saying now we seem to be getting renewalls done actively and staying on top of these things. Thats all.
I guess I should just stick to utter chronic patter like ''hur dur, is this a bigger game than the last big game'' like you do.
Our failure to achieve promotion in 2015 and 2016 is probably a key contributing factor to contract negotiations not progressing far with Allan, McGinn and McGeouch at those times. As a club we couldn’t have offered much in the way of a pay bump and as players they would be unlikely to commit to stay longer at a club failing to meet their sporting objectives.
