Just watched this, what a guy, hopefully he's back firing on all cylinders soon
A really open interview. It must have been so tough for him at the time being diagnosed with this and the uncertainty around it.
Great stuff. The sky sports interview is so much better though. We need to get Luke Sharkey doing all out media.
An inspiration not only to our young fans, but every single one of us. Faced adversity right through his career and still finding the courage to soldier on. I’m just glad he’s ours.
Amazing that he’s managed to come back as he has to be honest. Shows how much he loves the game as sounds like he is taking a fairly big (but managed) risk to keep playing. Very inspirational. Before his hiatus he was looking knackered at points, so this completely explains it/thank goodness it was picked up.
Delighted Scott is back playing for us in any capacity, he’s a special player. Main priority is making sure nothing deteriorates first and foremost for his health and everything else comes after.
What a brave man. Can't wait to see him gracing the pitch again.
Absolutely amazing he is back playing. There are a couple of well known events involving footballer that were as a result of the same condition.
I think this highlights why situations like this should see the player dictate the narrative and tell the story on their terms.
He's already a pretty inspirational guy given the career he has managed with diabetes and this just adds to that. Obviously from a selfish point of view I hope he gets back to his best for Hibs but more importantly I hope he enjoys the rest of his career wherever it takes him. He deserves to.
What was/is the problem? I won't be able to watch the interview until later today.
My favourite player in recent seasons has been Lewis Stevenson, he really is Mr Hibs, but the player i have enjoyed watching most since signing for us is Scott Allan.
He has wonderful feet, and the eye for a pass we've not seen at the club in a very long time.
Hopefully he can get back to full fitness, get back in the team on merit, but if not i hope he keeps healthy and is able to continue with life as normal as possible. :not worth
Where is the interview?
You're welcome!

Treatment depends on the severity J. I have family members who have it and one quite severe. Beta blockers a can be used to manage the heart rate but other than regular monitoring there is not really any other major treatments (yet). I’m surprised he is still playing if I’m honest as even in its mildest form, elite sport is not recommended.
Now we can fully understand his fight and see he is a true footballing embodiment of perseverance.
Well played Scott. :top marks
Quite humbling to watch that and absolutely amazing that he is back in contention with the issues he deals with.
Think the fact everyone could see at the time something wasn`t right, lots of people I knew and probably some comments on here were "he`s blown oot his erse" half way through a game,so glad they found the cause and have come up with a way to get him through this and hopefully keep the condition
under control,I like others heard the rumours that we may never see him play again and so glad that we have the chance to get him back in the team again.....even if its cameo appearances for the rest of the season from the bench all we need is a wee bit of
the magic of the Locksmith:greengrin
Onwards and Upwards Scotty!
It goes to show we don't know what is going on in a players personal life and we never consider that there may be an issue when dishing out criticism of them if their performances are not up to scratch. Scott a fair bit of stick about his performance, not being fit enough to see out a full game etc a while back and now we see why.
If that's his condition, I'm frankly surprised he's allowed to be back playing. There's a long history of this condition killing healthy players, dropping them in a second in the middle of a game/training session - it's unpredictable, and almost guaranteed to be fatal if he experiences a major event.
In most of those cases though, it was undiagnosed until after the fact - I hope there's a robust monitoring/treatment regime in process to help Scott during training and games since it HAS been caught.
Very brave and unfortunate young lad.
Very open and brave to talk about that. Didn’t have to felt he needed to.
Wish him all the best in his career and beyond.
With everything he’s managed to overcome and still become a professional athlete I’ve no doubt he’ll carry on. Persevere Scotty !

There always has to be a place in a Hibs team for a player with Scott's level of ability when he's fit, an exciting entertaining player who can genuinely change a game for us.
Delighted when he's in good health, for him as much as for Hibs.

Incredible to think what he’s been through medically. He says he’s not fit and needs games so why did Ross play him in the semi final?
Tbh my initial reaction was to be stunned that he was allowed to continue playing. I referenced it above but it's the same condition that Marc Vivien Foe and Miklos Feher were found to have had. It was also a variation of the same illness that forced Fabrice Muamba to retire.
Of course medical science advances all the time and all the incidents I've mentioned above happened several years ago now and all of them were diagnosed after the event. I think when the only exposure people may have had to cardiomyopathy in the past is of it being fatal or potentially so then it's natural there is curiosity. I don't think that's a bad thing either.
Makes me proud of Hibs this type of stuff. We really look after our players compared to other clubs.
As I said in my message earlier elite sport is not generally recommended based on my experience. It may be that the regular medical screening is more readily available to him privately which isn’t available to most folk via NHS.
I think everyone is glad he is able to continue 👍
I don’t know if you’ve watched the short clip on the Hibs website or the full length one on Sky but the interview with Luke Shanley he goes a bit deeper into how he’s able to continue playing.
Daily tests, regular heart checks and he’s spoken with other professional sportsmen who have been able to continue playing.
He also said his condition is relatively mild and not as sever as it could have been. I assume that was a factor in how he is able to continue playing.

Full 20 minute Sky interview here
Superb stuff. What a man! Can't wait til he's back.
Have we really just filmed David Tanner asking questions then used the Sky Sports interviews answers? 😂
Between this and the diabetes it really hasn't been easy for him. Fantastic that he's still able to play.
He is a great player, he has a fantastic attitude to the medical setbacks he has had to cope with, AND he still manages to keep his hair looking gorgeous even in lockdown !!!! :not worth:not worth
“He’s lazy”
“Got a bad attitude”
“Doesn’t try hard enough”
Hopefully all these myths can be put to bed now.
I’ve banged this drum before but for him to get to the level he has he’s probably had to work 10x as hard as other players.
Absolutely inspirational guy IMO. I really hope he is looking to get into management after he’s finished playing football as imo he’s clearly made of the right stuff for it.
I think at times they have been, although I suppose how you define widespread would be a factor. Theres certainly been times I’ve argued with posters about it.
I know that cos I’ve got on my high horse a few times about it.
I also think it was a reputation he came to the club with, which clearly isn’t the fault of anybody on this board.
Just got round to watching the full version of Scott's interview on Sky. (Luke Shanley is great at his job).
Really can't speak highly enough of Scott's character, bravery, and resolve. The interview is so refreshingly candid, but also difficult, and rather emotional, which is to be expected given the subject matter.
He's clearly a very intelligent guy and always seems to take a philosophical approach to the challenges posed by his physical conditions. It takes a rare kind of person to deal with the obstacles he's faced, let alone to come out with a positive outlook on things, what an inspiration.
You're some man, Scott. 💚
Having known someone personally who died on a pitch from a heart condition which they were unaware of and played for years with it.
It is pleasing this was found and he can carry on.
Just out of curiosity, how does this actual diagnosis of a heart problem tally with all the rumours and speculation that were going around on social media? It's a genuine question - I don't do Twitter, but people on here were saying it was being discussed a lot 'out there' by twitter experts... Did anyone actually know what was really going on, or was it all mince?
Definitely. My reaction was an instantaneous one before I watched the whole interview and read a bit more elsewhere.
That's why I'm glad this was reported on Hibs and Scott's terms. It allows things to be explained clearly and people with questions to be accommodated and able to understand. Commendable all round.
There was a lot of rumours on Twitter. I think some were fairly close to the mark whilst others were way off.
Very early on we made a decision to limit conversation about it on here because it was pretty clear Hibs and Scott wanted to control the narrative on this and that the disclosure of the truth was something Scott as an individual had the right to control the timing off. Having watched the interviews today I think we called it right.
Yep, that was the most common complaint abut him I saw last season, plus a few people questioning his commitment.
It just goes to show that we maybe judge players unfairly a lot more than we'd care to admit.
I'm glad his career's not over yet, but I think we maybe shouldn't expect too much from him this season.
I think the admins on the site should be commended for the way they controlled the story on here. Hibs and Scott clearly wanted a level of privacy and to control the narrative. Folk speculating about what was wrong wouldn't help that. So well done. And also well done to Hibs and Scott. Hope he is back soon as possible
Admins 100% called it right.
I knew it was a heart condition but I didn't know exactly what, I was told back in September that he wouldn't play again.
Was later told that insurance company was involved and retirement due to ill health was on the cards but it all took time.
More recently told that second opinions were being sought and then obviously he was back in the squad.
Not saying for a minute all of what I was told was correct and to be honest it doesn't matter a jot if it was right or wrong.
Important thing is Scott is back within touching distance to starting a game for Hibs, something a lot of people (including players) didn't think would happen.
The worst thing I have ever witnessed on a football pitch was Alen Orman at Easter Road years ago when I thought I was witnessing something tragic.
When it was announced that Scott was on his way back that was the first thing that sprang to my mind. However I am sure it wouldn't be allowed if he was in danger and we can look forward to his fantastic fight against the odds continue.
Pretty Boy, feel free to delete or edit this post if you deem necessary.
Good post :agree:
I also do think there's a place for some of these things - the level of which is debateable - to be posted at the time.
For a player to disappear from the squad for several months without an awareness of "it's something very serious which club and player want to keep under wraps for just now" almost makes it more likely that someone will go in like a bull in a china shop and make comments like "always injured, get rid" without realising that it's a serious issue that's panning out. Knowing that Scott was going through a potentially career threatening issue forces people to keep it respectful and also allows admins to shut down speculation.
.net's handled it well, kudos.
I’m happy for him that he’s feeling great now. I wish supporters could have been there to welcome him back.
Just shows how incredibly talented the guy is to have these background medical conditions and still have had the career he has and still continuing to push for a start in a team sitting third in the top league in the country - Scottys an inspiration and were very lucky to have him! :flag:
Heard the exact same thing as you Scoopyboy. I genuinely believe that after his first diagnosis was given retirement was definitely considered.
I’m absolutely delighted the news is now so positive, from Scott Allan’s perspective and from a selfish point of view because I want to see him back in a Hibs jersey again. I’ve never hidden my thoughts on him as a player, watching someone with his ability is why I love football.
I would hope given time he will get back to his best and if possible will be an even better player and he will finally get the Scotland call up his talents deserve.
The full interview is terrific. Luke Shanley is excellent at his job.
The way everyone has managed this has been truly commendable but Scott is an inspiration. He seems to have taken everything in his stride and managed to turn it into a motivation.
He’s also managed to spread awareness for both of his illnesses brilliantly and never looks for any sympathy, just keen to knuckle down and play football.
The last question about the club almost had me going, there’s a real connection between Hibs and Scott Allan, delighted to see him back.
Also, there’s a career in the media after football if he wants it, he’s incredibly articulate and very likeable too!
Hibs and Scott have conducted themselves with class though all of this. Well done to both but especially Scott. Wish the lad nothing but good luck in getting back into the side and playing regularly.
Scott is one young man that can genuinely be held up as role model, he deserves so much credit for the way he has conducted himself.
The extended interview is a wonderful listen. Scott Allan comes across as a humble and dignified man and has made the most of a career with so many health obstacles in the way.
Really glad that Hibs managed the situation in the manner they did.
I am full of admiration for Scott for the way he has handled this issue and his determination to overcome both health issues.
It is such a shame that he can’t walk out to a packed Easter Road tomorrow so that we could express our love and support.
From his interview it can be monitored and managed which is similar to his diabetes.
He was fortunate to get a warning from his body and importantly switched on enough not to ignore it.
The interview is very positive and there is even a chance his performances could improve given he has refined his diet and as such is taking even greater care of his diabetes. He is also aware of the condition now which he states is at the milder end of the spectrum so all as good an outcome as he and we could have hoped for.
It really is amazing that he has been able to play at the standard he has, given he will have had this issue the whole of his career and the difference between a good and great player can be as simple as a tiny bit more stamina or speed.
If people like the idea, I've found a website that allows you to create a "virtual greetings card" where people can add their own contribution and message, photo etc like on a birthday or greetings card going round an office. Started it off at https://my.kindeo.com/contribute/vpdkpecv3kc7apw if people think it'd be a good idea, then we could send it onto the club?
If people think it's got legs as an idea, I'll start a new thread. Would be nice to give everyone a chance to welcome the big man back to action
Great interview by Luke S on Sky - this is the long version - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IURhRCKBZu8
Scott Allan, and Hibs have managed this very well, he saw 3 specialists.
I truly hope to see him back at top form................but as always, his health is the first priority.
Agree with all of that. Scott Allan and Hibs just clicked from day one and I can't wait to see him back playing again for a club you can tell he regards as his natural home. It's very exciting to think we have a player of his calibre waiting in the wings. I know he's played many games for Hibs over the last few years but it's like having a brilliant new signing just waiting to be unveiled.
:agree:
iirc, there was also a lot of borderline snidey comments being made about the admins in regards to trying to minimise the conversation and speculation on here about SA’s condition, so well done to the admins not only for how they handled the situation but also doing that in the face of how they were spoken about on here
good news about Scott, whatever happens going forward I hope that he and his loved ones are happy and healthy
Great news for the young man, now perhaps the gossips and the nosey ones will just mind there own business. (Although I doubt it) some of the gossips on here will realise that something’s are just not for the nosey ones to know and gossip about over the washing line.
Spot on.
While I'm obviously especially pleased that the story is about a very talented Hibs player battling through a potentiallly career-ending affliction, I'd be pleased for any footballer (or indeed any sportsman or woman) in such circumstances no matter what club they played for. However on the BBC Scotland live football feed this afternoon, the number of folk who have decided to select the 'thumbs down' on this story bewilders me. Why would you do that?
Great interview. It must be really difficult for an athlete to live on a low carb diet, I am a T1 myself and not an athlete, in fact I'm probably the polar opposite to an athlete and it is difficult enough for me. To have these two conditions and to still have the desire and drive to play and succeed at the top level of football in this country is testament to his character. Can't wait for him to be slipping beautiful passes through to our strikers once again.
Scott is a credit to himself and the club...I hope he can get back to his previous form...
Looking forward to a Scott Allan pass. Club and Scott have handled this impeccably.
What an incredibly brave guy , a credit to his family and himself.
Brilliant the way the club have rallied round as well .
Good luck to the guy not only in football but in life outside it.
A real role model
Admins,
Forgive me if this comes across as pushy.
I wondered if the Scott Allan thread about his interview could maybe be closed - so the Northernhibee thread with electronic message to Scott doesn’t get lost or overlooked?
Just a thought.
Number of times he got taken off early and the fans were up in arms. All makes sense now. Hadn't looked himself for a while. Scott is a magnificent footballer. More talent in his wee toe than most players could dream of. Keeping everything crossed for him that the worst is now behind him and he can get back to doing what he's good at at a place where he's loved.
Just skim read some posts. Being diabetic and doing exercise is pretty tough. As a diabetic Ive gone from 15 stones to 12 in a few years having a couple of seizures as a random consequence. Couch to 5k to half marathon in 2 years has been great for me but blood sugar management with the training is so difficult. Scotty is a hero. One of the most dynamic midfielders in Scottish football having to balance diabetes being an athlete is amazing. We are lucky to have him
Watching the video again, it looks to me as if Scott has bulked up a wee bit on his upper body.
Amazing fortitude from this young man facing adversity of the cards fate has dealt him.
I was some what shocked that screening isn’t already in place. (Moira Gordon’s article states he’s along a call for widespread screening.
I thought that whole point about learning the lessons from Molumbo and the young Hibs and Heart youths that died within days of each other ????!!!!!!
I could make other points but I didn’t want to dilute my shock. Relatively speaking There’s a lot of money in football is this not where some of the football money should go before almost everything else???
what an amazing interview, i can wait to get back in the ground and cheer this laddie onto the pitch. welcome back scotty :not worth:not worth
Comes across as a great guy and we all know what a great player he is. Hopefully he can get back to his best with us.
