A dire new set of daily covid figures: 981 deaths in the last 24 hours (the highest daily death rate since April 24), a new record of 23,771 in hospital for any time in the pandemic, and 50,023 new positive tests.

Boris being coy on how quickly the vaccine can be rolled out.
Strange he should choose this moment not to make up targets.
Just seen some highlights from the darts - shaking hands, hugging etc
Rules no apply to them no?
Looking at them I'm sure alot will be in the high risk category too

Pride? No. My kids like a lot of others have missed out on a lot this year. My oldests boyfriend lives in Newcastle and she hasn't seen him in months. My youngest has a history of mental health issues. I'm not going to stop either from occasionally 'breaking the rules' if it helps their wellbeing. Both will be spending Hogmanay with their mum and dad which was not what they were expecting to do. Maybe I should have highlighted these were occasional and not every day occurrences but I wont apologise for allowing my kids to have a wee bit of normality during these times. 👍
Our Politicians will be feeling a lot more uncomfortable in a couple of weeks when the Christmas hangover they backed starts to bite.
And yet as the UK decends into covid farce its every small action contributing to the **** show we are now living it
It totally boils my piss seeing my mates back in NZ living an essentially normal life as we stumble and sleepwalk into more deaths that were entirely preventable
The darts are indoors - when was the last time we were allowed to hug a relative at all, nevermind indoors

Does anyone think the PCR test is a bit of a farce? I mean we have had more cases in the last 10 hours than Australia, NZ, Thailand and Hong Kong have had combined in the last 10 months.
It shouldn't really be a shock to anyone sadly.
We needed effective test and trace in place for exiting the initial lockdown. Didn't happen.
We needed mass testing of students and a phased return to universities. Didn't happen.
We needed to close the borders early in the pandemic to avoid reimporting cases. Didn't happen.
We needed enforced quarantine when entering the country. Didn't happen.
We needed extensive antibody testing and testing of the asymptomatic population. Didn't happen.
We need mass vaccination sites ready to go in advance of them actually being required.........
Entirely consistent from Bozo, all statements, underpinned by nothing and no delivery, he moves onto the next soundbite/ opportunity for positive imagery before anything is done about seeing the last great, fantastic, world beating gimmick through.

Why are coffee shops and places like Greggs open? There’ll be other examples, but they’re the ones I noticed being busy yesterday.
I was down at Cramond walking the dog a couple of days ago, loads of folk standing waiting for takeaway coffee. Not particularly social distanced.
I don’t actually mind it, I’m glad I can get a coffee...I just don’t see how it only “essential” businesses are open, how do they fit that description?
Is getting a Sausage & Bean bake more essential than anything at B&Q or Next?
