Their support tonight carried him over the line. There's a lot of love there.

That’s why the poster said ‘initially’.
There’s no question Murray was less popular early doors than his compatriots.
Now he benefits from a wave of empathy/sympathy because of his injuries and the whole battling back narrative.
Henman fitted into the Wimbledon environment like a glove, Murray’s had to learn a different path.
anyway back to football, Ukraine forward that picked up the injury against Sweden is out for game v engerlund, the red card decision Lineker described as 'ridiculous', stick to selling crisps

Goes back to the early stages of his career when Murray joked he'd support any except England, took him a few years to get them back on his side.
You could argue though that with Scotland having been absent from major tournaments for so long we don't really know whether our pundits would be any less partisan.
Personally I just thought that after 55 years of major tournament failure against the Germans (arguably England's greatest football rivals bearing in mind how rarely they play Scotland) and 18 months where good news stories have been rare the English pundits/media were entitled to go a bit OTT.
Definitely bowing out of this debate now ;-)
Just saying what most true football fans would say.
“Bristolhibby, I presume you will be wanting Hearts to win the Cup Final this year?”
Seriously, that’s the same question.
Andy answered it as all on here would answer it.
An older more polished AM would have said with a wry smile, “of course I want England to do well”, have a wee wink and leave it at that.

The (English)football podcast I listen to led with ‘if you need a break from all of the England euphoria, or at least some perspective, here’s a look back on Euro 2008 in our Euro stories series…’
I get the feeling that there’s plenty of English people who also agree with most Scots’ assertion that the English sports media go overboard, and probably uniquely so.
freakin appalling the abuse this wee lassie got on social media, Xenophobic runts
Euro 2021: Disgust after crying young German fan attacked online during England vs Germany | The Independent
obviously the worst has been left out
Their excitement was criticised as was their lack of grace in winning, as supporters at Wembley booed the German national anthem, sang inappropriate songs and cheered and laughed at a clip of a young German girl crying as her team looked set to lose the game.
England 🏴 of course, would sit nicely along the trophy of 66😁
hope they find the family

A Wales football supporter has raised hundreds of pounds for a little German fan cruelly mocked online after England’s victory over Germany at Wembley.
The little girl was the subject of shameful abuse after she was pictured crying on television and on the big screen at the stadium.
I find this a really depressing story, for a number of reasons....
1. Why do the TV companies continue to think showing children crying is a good idea? That's been happening for a good while now, and it serves no positive purpose at all. I'm not saying that they should be *banned* from showing stuff like that, but surely human decency dictates that there's no need.
2. The fans that cheered, or got involved in the online comments need a good boot up the *rse.
3. I'm not really sure how giving the child £1000 is going to make a difference. What's she going to do with that, buy a big **** off teddy bear? Or, more likely, an iPhone? It's not as if she's likely to be massively hard up given her family managed to take her to Wembley.
The whole thing is a nice wee illustration on how ****ed up our society is. Nobody seems to be pulling people in points 1 and 2 up for being utter tools, and the way to 'fix' it is to throw money at a wee girl?
I despair.
Absolutely gagging for tonight's games.
