The businesses with large office space are already using this as an ideal opportunity to change their model and make everyone WFH.
Some will comment that “it’s just the bankers so who cares”... well the security guards, the canteen ladies, the FM guy, the taxi driver who picks up people from the office, the hotel workers who’s rely on business travel, the baggage handler at the airport, the retail staff at all the airports, the bus driver who’s routes are being cut, the local newsagent who relies on the passing trade, the construction worker who is working on the next big office block and the guy on the builders yard...these are real people living and working in Edinburgh who’s lives are now destined to be much, much worse due to unemployment and with little prospect of finding another job.
The furlough scheme and payment holidays for mortgages have given a false sense of security.
These changes are happening now and there is no going back, the damage has been done and this time it’s going to last a generation.
