I genuinely think that a lot of people who voted for Trump know little about him other than believing he was a successful businessman (...), because of the retrofit NBC did on his image for the Apprentice.
Unless something really big happens - and fast enough that people are able to connect it to the election of Trump - I don't see how it gets fixed. The population is living in completely separate information worlds: right wing / conspiracy; factual and mixed with a centre-leftish slant (by US standards), and low-information of any sort beyond screaming headlines (if that...)
