Obviously. :greengrin Also got a great video of our American friend dropping a birdie on the first and going nuts. Good memories.

My brother played the Old Course backwards the other day.
I still like the old course as an Open course, in fact I think it comes alive at that level (like a few of the famous links courses). I like how differently it can play in different weather conditions - it can be torn apart whilst mild and be a bit of a killer when the wind blows. The wee loop up the far end of the course is a great place to watch various groups come and go. Over the course there are a few shorter par 4s that can be hit, some very tough holes as well, with a few "can't go right" holes on the way home that can be very interesting when the wind blows.
I'm not a great golfer but I'd love to play it one day - and I expect I'd be quite underwhelmed by the experience.
Don’t get me wrong Smartie it a great experience. If you look at it from a purely golf test though it’s a fairly bland course. It’s the history and feeling of strolling down 17 & 18 that makes it worthwhile. There always an audience too. It’s as close to feeling crowd pressure as you’ll get. Finished bogey bogey. :greengrin
Fairly forward tee. Still had to cut it a bit to get a better angle but no going over the old railway shed. A left to right shot wasn’t a problem as the wind was humming off the sea all day. Missed the green right and played a worldly to about three feet and duly missed it. 18 was a driver then three wood. We were as far back as possible off the tee and into said gale. Three putted it.
Dumbarnie on Thursday, anyone want to let me know what to expect? From the photos their Facebook has been posting it looks in great nick and is actually only opening today
I joined Pumpherston last month and really love the course, it's been closed a lot recently due to the sheer amount of rain we've had. I have completed 2 out 3 rounds to submit for my handicap.
The schedule for comps came out and I have to admit I'm surprised at the sheer amount of comps take place. In june for example unless you enter a comp, you can only play casual golf on 2 weekend days for the entire month. Now, I plan to play in the odd comp but casual by myself will always be my favourite. I hope there's scope to tee off early before they start as I won't usually have the time to wait until the end of the day.
Played Pumpherston a couple of times last year. Good offers on Golf Now.
Some excellent holes. The 2nd is "Augusta-ish" (in my mind anyway 🙂) and the Par 3, 13th is a cracker. The 16th is the "signature hole" but looks better from overhead than it does when you play it. Can't really see the island green till you get up to it.
Enjoy 👍
Not much golf getting played. Deer Park shut 4 days last week and closed since Tuesday this week and review not until Monday.
Been a grim spring so far.
Dumbarnie is very good. An array of different tees for different abilities. I’ve played it twice and due to go back again this year. It’s still relatively new and some of the areas from just around the greens and to the tees need to mature a bit. Great layout and a good test. Nice clubhouse and vibe too. The green problems they had a year or so ago have disappeared. It’s first class.
I've played golf for many many years and been fortunate enough to play all the Open Championship Courses in the UK with the exception of the Old Course and the very recently added Royal Portrush.
I hear a lot of negative reports about St Andrews as a golf course but I suppose I really should make an effort to play it sometime soon - if only to sample the traditions and unique atmosphere of the home of Golf.
I've played it 4 times, though not since 1989. I've a cine film of my first ever tee shot - it went a long way straight, but about 5 foot off the deck.
When I viewed the film I realised I was so petrified of hacking up the tee I went up on my toes and hit the ball half way up. And yes, I dumped my second in the burn!
Covered a few holes at Rutherglen Top Golf :greengrin last weekend. Great fun but it reminded me why I love fishing and hate golf.
Kingsbarns this afternoon. Looking forward to it.
How was kingsbarns
Absolutely tremendous. Fairways a bit soft in places but greens were really good. Fabulous course and experience. That’s my 6th time I think and it has never failed to deliver. 36 Stableford points with a couple of doubles on the front nine and 3 jiggles on 15,17 & 18 took a bit of the shine off but it was a difficult day. :greengrin
Playing The Carrick on Sunday. Might take my wellies.
The carrick really is a very good track. Some terrific holes and some real nice scenery. The condition is its downfall. Really struggling in the wet conditions. It really could do with a good few Bob spent on drainage and conditioning. Real shame.
Carrick is a great layout but their drainage issues are never ending.
Dumbarnie yesterday. Really is a very good layout. Greens all recovered (bar maybe 8th which is below the standard of the rest IMO) I really like it.
Turnberry Robert the Bruce course tomorrow.
I tell you what. He may be a big orange face ******** but he certainly knows how to spend money. What a place he has turned Turnberry into. First class experience and that was on the wee course.
Two blobs on the first 4 holes then the game decided to turn up. A respectable 34 stableford points. I seemed to be scoring 3 pts or no points.
Elie yesterday, just fantastic. 13th one of my favourite holes in all of golf.
Really hoping Boab gets it done tonight. I always think he’s a wee bit fragile tho but he’s got the lead. If he doesn’t and plays poorly in the process it could set him back years.
Never in doubt 😂. I don’t think I have been more nervous watching a golfer but what a victory. He has played about 6 weeks in a row so will have some big decisions to make with his schedule. Memorial next week then the US Open. Travellers after that and then probably the Scottish Open. He can’t play in them all !
Nerves are torn to shreds. Brilliant for not just him but his old boy too. He’s just a grass cutter you know.
Withdraws from the limited field Memorial to go on a sesh 😂
I think not playing this week is a mistake particularly if he’s heading back to Oban. The next three weeks over is the US Open bookended by two limited field signature events. Loads of earning potential but again more importantly enhanced fed ex and world ranking points. He could take a week or two off after that over here before the Scottish Open and Open. It also won’t do his homesickness much good either. Needs to tough it out.
Having said all that only he will know what his priorities are.
Yeah I get that. Remember he missed a few cuts in that first 5 and these two signature events are the last two of the season so a good showing the next three weeks could keep/get him in next years signature events. What an opportunity especially when he’s obviously on top form. If he’s coming home for just one week on the piss it makes little sense to me. With a couple of jet lags to cope with too before the US Open week that is basically a week away preparation wise. Play the next three and come back for a two week break followed by two Scottish venues. I’m sure he knows what he’s doing mind.
I have tickets the final day of the Scottish Open at the Renaissance club. Does anyone have any tips for attending? I have never been to a golf event before. I went with the ticket plus option for car parking and bar access.
I’ve never been to it at the Renaissance. Went when it was at Gullane but was off on a stag do mid afternoon so was a bit rushed.
I have been to the open at Muirfield down there too. Don’t drink so can’t comment in the bar etc.
Parking was well organised going in but a complete shambles on leaving as all the oarking attendants/stewards had long gone and it was a free for all with literally hundreds of cars trying to leave one small exit with no real roads to speak of just a huge field. It was literally hours trying to get out.
I went and spent quite a bit of time at the practice range and saw more golf shots there than anywhere.
Food was pricey.
enjoy.
McIlroy throws away the US Open by missing two 3 footers on 16 and 18. After holing some great putts earlier his bottle crashed and he folded.
Yep another choke. He's gonna struggle to get over that one.
I don’t know how he recovers from that. Complete bottle job.
3 out of the last 10 or so he’s thrown away. So many close calls. He had it in the palm of his hands and chucked it.
He also needs to get rid of Harry on the bag. Driver up the last was an insane choice.
Absolutely. No way Ted Scott or Billy allow that.
However, he had a 2 foot putt for par and blew it. Same on 16.
It's mental, nothing else now. He won't win another because he can't get out his own head.
I left St Andrews Absolutely gutted but that was worse. I don't know how he recovers.

Bit harsh. It's clearly become a near unsurmountable mental pressure for him after 10 years without a major. Not many of us would be able to handle that in the intensity of top level individual sport. It's telling that he carries more of an aura in the team environment of the Ryder Cup.
Aside from the nightmarish short putt misses, I'd say the way he bolted for his private jet without congratulating the winner was his biggest folly of the day. I get that facing the media might have been a step too far given the state he'd have been in, but leaving the way he did was poor form.
He's way better than being the Hibs of golf. Consistently competing with the elite and four majors to his name. Hard to feel too sorry for him. Yesterday came down to nerve and he simply couldn't hold his. Bryson's bunker shot at 18 was worthy of winning any tournament. Sandy Lyle-esque. All credit to him.
I could see the nerves getting to him with those short putts, The pressure of not winning for so long, and the greens being as difficult as any greens in the world, but club selection from the tee was just amateur from him or his caddie.
Stupid beyond belief at the par 3, and the last hole, even someone as sheite as me at the game knows that course management is as important as driving long or trying to force things.
Shocking from someone as experienced as him.
For those who think he should’ve stayed behind to shake Brysons hand.
I presume you thought the same and gave the same criticism to every other guy who’s lost a golf tournament on tour when they’ve disappeared shortly after their round?
It wouldn't be an issue if he'd not been in contention right up until the final shot. Nobody missing the cut or finishing down the field, long before those in contention finish, is likely to hang around, but when you've been trading blows with the eventual winner until the 72nd hole you don't bugger off in a huff without saying well done to the winner. Common courtesy.
I'm not referring to him skipping his media duties, just the fact he didn't have the good grace to say well done and shake hands with the guy who pipped him to the title. For a vastly experienced professional golfer it shouldn't have been beyond him. It was pretty childish, no matter how gutted he was feeling.
As I said, hard to feel too sorry for him. It's not as if he's still striving to win his first major, plus he's walked away with another two million dollars as runner-up.
Two wrongs don’t make a right and BDC isn’t making a big thing about it. I recall BDC doing similar over in Europe in one of his brief infrequent forays over here when he choked. In his defence he was much younger but I’m sure he couldn’t care less. I’ll bet most players won’t either. They’ll all have been there at one time or another at a tournament and can probably relate to doing that in a tournament but can only imagine chucking away a major in those circumstances.
BDC left a course on the European tour a few years ago after messing up I think the 18th to hand a win to I think it was Matt Wallace. IIIRC he was actually playing with him and there was no handshake. Nothing. Just off he went.
Like I said he was a very young pro at the time.
West links for me today.
First time, anything I should know?
Up north for a few days so managed to sneak the clubs in the car.
Played Aylth today nice course fairly short but few tricky holes.
The Cheff * is a machine. Good week for Bob too. A nice 310k in the hip pocket and up one place in the world rankings and three places in the fed ex cup standings.
still think he should have played memorial instead of coming home for a few days after his win. He could be now on a couple of weeks in Oban before The Scottish and the open and also be further up both rankings.
I was on a trip up to Kirriemuir last week - which I thoroughly enjoyed. Not that long so ideal for a group of fairly mixed abilities.
There are quite a few excellent but fairly uncelebrated courses up in that part of the world.
My golf is seriously bad. 👎
Woohoo..i’ve been terrible since i got back playing after an 18 year gap. Playing once a week doesn’t really help. I had a target of getting to 12 by the end of the year but down to 11 this weekend.
I’ll not play for rest of year 😅
Well done. Get out there and you’ll be down to single figures at seasons end.
I’m not playing nearly enough and making any old excuse for not doing so. For anyone that knows me that is unheard of. Time booked for sat morning in the medal but I’m not there yet. Played once (very badly) in about 5 or 6 weeks during peak season. Unbelievable.
From the heady heights of playing off 7 a couple of years ago, i hurt my back putting my clubs in the car and it's never been right since.
I'm off 11.7 now down from 12.5, i've slowly regained a little form and could feel myself improving.
Got a day at Carrus Green tomorrow, and would you believe it my back is playing up again, not quite as bad as before, but last week i went round Staining lodge near Blackpool in 74, and was looking to have a good go at winning with my bandit handicap. :boo hoo:
I’m 14 just now challenge is to go single digits at some point.
Been working on getting rid of my slice off the tee this season and seems to be getting there so getting a bit more distance.
Playing Merchants on Saturday.
I'm only getting my third game of the year so far next Monday - playing Thornton.
First game was very promising, second was dreadful.
Hopes aren't high re my form, but spending a whole Monday somewhere other than at work sounds delightful.
Gullane invitational on Saturday and boat of garten on Sunday. Hope the weather maintains!
Lanark on Sunday in the Golf in Scotland. My short game is a shambles so not very hopeful
Played Dunbar this morning on a picture perfect day. The course was in absolutely magnificent condition.
👍
So lucky to be a member at Dunbar.
We moved to Haddington in June 2018
We were getting some work done in the house in the September
Guy doing the work said he had just joined Dunbar with no waiting list!
Put my name down in the September got in March 1st following year.
Waiting list has been closed for years now.
Getting into Dunbar so quickly almost makes up for fact that the workman was terrible and landscaping needed redone after 2 years :-(
If you can go to Carrus Green i would highly recommend it, lovely course and a great clubhouse, great food and brilliant raised view of the 18th green. :top marks
Came 2nd with 36 points, scrambled round in what i'd say was awful golf, just my driving was any good with the odd great putt. Managed a lot of pars with some awful iron shots to the greens that missed, but managed quite a few chip and runs up to the flag.
The winner had 39 off a handicap of 20, and i've just drawn him in the club knockout.
Having the rest of the week off now before playing the match next Monday.
Having not broken 80 all year this happens yesterday:faf::faf::faf:Attachment 28108
Been a tough season, up from 7.3 to 10.6 in the last three months.
Then got my first hole in one yesterday [emoji471] [emoji1634]
Some game….

Another good showing from Bob this week. Up five places to twelve in the fed ex cup rankings and 640k richer. Must be up.place or two on the world golf rankings too. He was no16 in the world.
I agree but I suppose whatever makes him happy is probably best. No point in having all of the above and being miserable. Up one place to No15 in the world after the weekend. More chances again this weekend and a similar display will comfortably see him into the final day at Eastlake. He’s probably done enough already being honest.
He will easily qualify for the tour championship, incredible for his first season
Money is insane for the last 2 events
Even if fe finishes last in the BMW, he will pick up 60k and I’m sure I read somewhere that last place in the tour final still picks up 500k.
If he can end the season in the top 10 in the rankings then he gets more bonus money.
I think Scottie had made nearly 30 million in prize money alone this season
Went to the range tonight. It’s nearly always an hour and about 110 balls or so. Start off poorly then eventually finding some sort of groove. Tonight though right from first ball almost every one straight out the middle. (one shanked 8 iron to be fair). Right through the bag did not miss many. So much so instead of trudging off after an hour absolutely knackered I left early with plenty balls left to hit. No point in being knackered when it wasn’t going to get any better than relative perfection. :greengrin Will I take it to the course over the weekend? Not a chance.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
