Some people take it to the extreme, I once got on a train, I was the only person in the carriage, I sat back and was listening to music until I got a tap on a shoulder from a couple, they said you are sat in our seat, I goes sorry I didn't know it was ticketed, she says it isn't but we always sit in the same seat, I looked about and we were still the only folk on the train, I just started laughing and said not today you don't, bit of a dickish move by me but it was about half 6 in the morning and I couldn't be arsed moving

I was going to sit in the same seat the next day just to annoy them even more but it seems like they got up extra early so they could claim "their" seat

I'm always making lists at work.

I'll make a to do list every day, leave spaces so I can add priority stuff nearer the top and then move on what's not completed to the next day. I like the satisfaction of scoring stuff off and seeing the progression.

My job is quite reactive so it's easy to forget things if you aren't organised and set in how you work through it.

I travelled to Liverpool every Friday night from Waverley for about a year when my Dad was ill. I booked the same train, carriage and seat for every outward journey to Wigan where I changed trains. The return journey was the same. I just loved the routine of same place every week. Even the Virgin train managers got to know me and commented on the fact that I was always in the same seat.

Today I was in a shop in Glasgow and an American tourist was near me and mentioned something about her “fanny pack”. I of course laughed, because I’m a fully grown man. She then laughed and joked about how she keeps forgetting it’s not called that here and a fanny is not the same as what a fanny is in the states etc etc. I then managed to convince this American lady that in Glasgow they don’t call them bum bags, but “fud pouches”. Very proud of this. I hope hers malfunctions in some way and she has to ask a Glaswegian shop assistant if they have any fud pouches.

When I was about 11 we were in Florida, it was 1990 so pretty much the height of the bum bag craze, we were in a shopping mall and my dad caught me and my brother pissing ourselves laughing at something, it was a poster in the window of a shop for a fanny pack, fast forward a couple of minutes to my dad having to explain that's what they call an erky in the states

I tend to end up fighting sleep at the barber's. On the plus side, if I'm having trouble sleeping, I just imagine I'm in the barber's chair and I'm off like a baby.

Negotiated my first trade deal for my business today with a fairly big local brand in the industry. Not life changing money, not even close. But very proud of it tbh, for them to ask us to endorse their products is quite a big compliment for us, well chuffed. Would’ve done it for free just to have our business associated with them.

Thanks very much, it’s been a lot of work and sacrifice to get to this point but starting to pay off I think. We’re doing well at the minute and it’s at the point where demand is outgrowing supply so some big decisions to be made going forward.

My kids are back in Switzerland as of yesterday after a week with the grandparents near Oban.

If there's a better feeling than having your child come pelting through the airport exit doors shouting "daddy" and then giving you a massive hug, I've yet to experience it.

Then, as it was like a furnace here yesterday, my wee girl would not settle whatsoever so I found myself out with her in the pram from 3-4:15 am whilst also carrying a half eaten pot of Greek yoghurt. Absurdity of parenting I guess.

This morning, 1 smile and that's all forgotten in an instant!

My Nana was brilliant at making tablet, she always joked she put a special ingredient in to add more texture, she had bad dandruff and very flaky skin 🤢🤮

I have just won one over white dog poo. I asked “why do you never see white dog poo like you did in the 80s/90s. My wife was adamant that I was making this up. A quick google both answered my question and provides written and photographic proof that white dog did indeed exist.


(The answer for anyone wondering was dogs’ diet consisted more of more calcium in it back then (usually in the form of crushed up bones which wasn’t fully digested and would come out in the poo and turn it white)

:agree: The only time my now 14 year old would leave the house was for football training 3 times a week, a game at the weekend and to go to school. I tried to encourage him to take up golf (we've got a golf course 200m from our house) but the more I tried to encourage him the more he rebelled against the idea and eventually I just gave up. About 3 months ago he just woke up one morning and decided he wanted to be good at golf and every free moment he now has he's either on the driving range or out on the course. I barely see him nowadays but like you it gave me great pleasure to know he's outside in the fresh air.

Tonight I saw someone say that the Isle of Wight looks like Englands scrotum, the fact that I absolutely see what they meant has made my evening. I’ll never be able to look at a map of the UK again without seeing Englands dangling plooms.

Some songs are just so good that they give you a euphoric feeling better than any drug I’ve sampled. For me, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hey Jude, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Live Forever, 505 and American Pie are the examples that immediately spring to mind. Unbelievable.

Also, and I'm certain I will have said this before, a pint alone. I've often timed my arrival when meeting someone so I am 20-30 minutes early and can get a pint on my own first.

A few years ago I was working at Pollock Halls doing maintenance and it was pretty much 9-430 Monday to Friday with the odd on call if there was an urgent job, there was something very relaxing about finishing work after the week and having your first pint. Difficult to describe but probably a similar feeling to having your first pint in the airport when ready for 10 days of wall to wall sunshine

Absolutely agreed on the latter point. I'm lucky enough to live about 200m from my local and once the kids are in bed and assuming the wife has her nose in a book or whatever, I'll take the bin out and escape for an evening pint or 2 by myself.

My 65 plate Corsa has heated seats, heated steering wheel and self defrosting windscreen. Other halfs 70 plate Corsa has none of these. Wouldn’t swap mine for his.

I do the same but without the dog and I just walk. There’s something beautiful about it, complete silence as I wander about wearing shorts regardless of the weather (I do have a jacket and beanie hat on as well to balance it out 😂). I then come home, have a coffee, write in my journal and then drive to the gym to do a 5k on the treadmill. Perfect start to my day.

Can understand that. Great to get up and out before roads etc get busy

I like to have the expected fuel range and the trip meter displayed on my car dash, and take pleasure (because I’m sad 🤣) in beating the fuel range. I keep a mental track of the mileage I’ve done vs what the range drops as I’m out and about.

I know it’s only an estimated range, but it makes me feel like I’m winning a bit hahaha

Cold showers.

I’ve started a new job and had a busy few weeks getting in to. Tonight I clocked off at 5 with a bit of a headache, the kids were loud and argumentative and all in all it was a stressy environment.

Just spent five minutes in an ice cold shower and feel a million times better. Headache gone, lethargy from the day vanished.

I picked up every infection/bug that was going after I did a half marathon in September. Early January I started ending each shower by turning down the dial and standing under it for 60 seconds and focusing on my breathing. It’s no coincidence that I haven’t been ill once and my mind is much clearer. I recommend cold showers to anyone that will listen.

Going to the gym and actually being methodical about it. I've always been methodical when it comes to running and for a long period kept progressing. However when it came to the gym I would go for a couple of weeks, try loads of stuff, feel like I was getting nowhere and give up then repeat the process a few months later. This time I have a set routine of 4 mornings a week, different target area every day and a core of 5 or 6 exercises per session. For the first couple of weeks you feel like you are going to get bored but then you start to feel the reps getting easier and you can increase the weight, you can feel yourself getting a bit stronger and you can notice little changes to your body shape. Suddenly what threatened to be boring becomes anything but because that consistency is what gets results. It's really motivating.

Also just pottering about prepping food. I can't stand food waste and try to avoid it wherever possible. I can happily spend hours on a Sunday chopping and freezing leftover onions, blanching carrots and celery and freezing them, chopping potatoes into roasties or chips, parboiling them and freezing them and so on. I made a simple pasta sauce the other night and made a soffritto for the base entirely out of frozen stuff that was destined for the bin otherwise, finished it with some basil that I had also torn up and frozen in an ice cube tray with some olive oil. Only additional cost to make it was £1.20 on a tin of peeled tomatoes.

I’ve been tempted a few times to start a gym thread on here. Have really got the bug since commiting to it when my first kid was born

Tinned tomatoes are double the price they were two years ago.

I'm always happy to pay a wee bit extra for decent tinned tomatoes. I always find the cheaper ones a bit watery and too sharp. Mutti is my current go to for brands available in the supermarket. Rega if I remember to order online or I'm somehwere I can get them. I don't mind the Tarantella ones either which are only about 90p.

Working for a s*x shop and describing what was damaged gets a quick hang-up in the other end. As does "I died in the crash".
The best one, and here I challenge you, was telling one that my wife died in the crash yesterday. She cried down the phone. And, no, I'm not sorry.

For some reason I started singing medleys of popular musicians down the phone to see how far I’d get. Someone sat through an entire Abba medley and just very awkwardly laughed at the end and hung up.

I had a 13 plate corsa with the first 2 of those - my 68 plate Hyundai doesn't have them!

Admittedly, I don't miss them much. I never used the wheel one as it would only heat the portions of the wheel you're meant to hold and I'm more of a 12 o'clock and gearstick driver than a 10 and 2 position driver. :greengrin

I do miss the corsa though! Was a great wee car!

My 1 year old Grand Daughter doing sign language, unbelievable to see her sign for “more” “thank you” “all done” her brain is an absolute sponge, I see her developing those skills at the same time I forget what I done yesterday 🤣
