Agree Neil Lennon left Hecky with the bare bones and not too many options
All the product of an ill thought out transfer window this time last year
He knew he was losing his midfield but seemed to be preoccupied with bringing in midget midfielders and loads of cover for Lewis that never kicked a ba :greengrin
We badly need a couple of centre midfielders too.
Teams that are strong in that area will absolutely own us in the middle.
That puts pressure on the defence and leads to poor service to the attacking players.
Most of the times we've been good in my time watching Hibs we've had good proper centre mids.
It was a strange one with SDG under Lenny
He was either injured or not quoted
He played 14 games under Neil Lennon last year scoring 5 goals and only being on the losing side twice
I take your point at times he was caught out but always seemed to just get there but was a driving force and a good attacking option
Under PH he has played 19 games scoring 1 so he obviously must rate what he brings to the team but competition can only be a good thing
As a defensive full back I don’t think we could do any better than Lewis, same applies to Gray on the right side, both excellent when their job is to defend.
There were times last season though when we were in promising attacking positions and I thought if we had a left back who was better going forward and had better delivery we’d be a better side.
Unpopular opinion but Sean Mackie isn’t for me and I personally don’t think he’ll make the grade in the first time, imo he’s not any real competition for Lewis so if we were to bring in another LB to compete with Lewis that’d be fine with me. Likewise though if we don’t sign a LB and we go into next season with him as left back I’ll be absolutely fine with that.
Possibly due to not having enough wide players in the squad last season who could help out the 2 wingbacks. You cannot ask Gray and Lewis to bomb forward and not have cover for them, Boyle was injured, Horgan struggles to track back and Milligan was slower than a week in jail, if you want Gray and Stevenson to do the defensive stuff, you need to have attacking wide players in front of them. Some of the best football we seen was when we had Boyle on the right and Barker on the left but we played a back 3 and this also limits Boyles attacking threat as he had more defending to do, if we're going with 1 up top then 2 wide men will help our wingbacks defend more as they'll give cover.
It was noticeable when Heckingbottom came in the 1st thing you saw was the team was far better structured, we defended with 2 banks of 4 but due to not having enough wide players we sometimes suffered when we attacked as the wings were exposed.
Hearts will be in a relegation battle next season. They won't have 500 new signings to baffle the opposition this time
Sounds like we're serious about getting this Preston lad in
Been given assurances he’d be first choice according to this...

He must be our replacement if Marciano leaves.
I'm not sure it matters to PNE as to whether he's 1st choice or not, but it probably matters to Maxwell. You can see the logic from our perspective, we get him on loan & check him out for his last season under contract. If he succeeds we have opportunity to sign him for free. Sounds from the article we only have to up our contribution a piece for it to happen. I believe NL may rate Rocky higher than PH does. With the style that PH wants us to play then Rocky's rocky distribution comes under greater scrutiny.
This is what we'd be getting:
