My mistake (again) it was Edinburgh's first case identified as patient zero.

Wow. This shows how important it is for the quarantine to be strictly enforced.
Interesting stuff. One thing I'm still not clear on is whether the T cell respnse prevents an individual from transmitting the disease as well as protecting the individual themselves. I assume it should do as the T cells must be preventing the viral cells from multiplying but I don't think I've seen anything directly referencing the point.
I personally think the country just got a tad over confident at the end of August / early September with schools going back and no immediate spike in infections. I'd like to think that throttling things back a little bit, plus also the shift in attitudes that makes people a little more careful as a result of talk of second wave etc, should be enough to get things back under control. Time will tell though.

Hospital near Falkirk closed a ward because test and protect identity case.
Something I was wondering this morning, now that we've left
EU I wonder if we still have to stick to GDPR rules. Perhaps we could legislate to allow people like that to be named. It would surely have a powerful impact if people knew that they might end up on the front page of national newspapers if they behave like that and cause thousands to get ill and / or die.
But they would be in UK legislation though wouldn't they? And therefore could be overridden with new legislation? Like adding in a clause that says if you do something spectacularly stupid and dangerous and infect dozens of people we're going to splash your mug shot over every daily paper.
That could actually encourage some of the complete morons out there to engage in stupid and dangerous acts. I'd like to see a more stringent enforcement of mask wearing. I appreciate its difficult to enforce but we have to keep people aware that its a legal requirement to wear masks and wear them properly in shops and supermarkets especially.
I don’t think the manpower is there. I’m sure Sturgeon said a couple of weeks ago that they were aiming to contact and check on 20% of those who were supposed to be in quarantine. That sounds pretty good but if my experience is anything to go by they aren’t checking that everybody who is returning to the country have actually filled in the required form.
Any figures yet for today?
Daily Scottish update;
350 new cases since yesterday
Increase of 3 in the confirmed cases in hospital
Increase of 4 in the confirmed cases in intensive care
3 deaths registered since yesterday
Breakdown of today's cases by health board;
Greater Glasgow and Clyde - 116
Lothian - 80
Lanarkshire - 56
Fife - 21
Highland - 14
Ayrshire and Arran - 13
Borders - 13
Grampian - 13
Forth Valley - 8
Tayside - 8
Dumfries and Galloway - 3
Shetland - 3
Orkney - 2
Big jump in people newly tested compared to yesterday's report though (6,500 vs 4,500) and tests conducted (24,000 vs 17,000). So it's definitely going in the wrong direction but not quite as badly as it first appears.
Good news is that the UK government testing volumes seem to be getting back on track and the Scottish NHS tests are the highest they've ever been.
There was always an expectation - in fact, an inevitability - that reopening society this side of a vaccine would lead to cases going up again, since the virus spreads through social contact. It just seems that the increase is now at a pace the Govt(s) are unable to control without putting us back under stricter measures, unfortunately.
Can only hope that the next month or two bring us good news about vaccine trial results, and/or the theory that up to 50% of the world's population may have immunity proves true and starts to slow the spread by virtue of those resistant to infection.
Glasgow should have been tightened down on harder before now, I can’t see why that hasn’t happened. Westminster have gone further with the North of England than we seem willing to go. I agree , we are probably looking at nationwide restrictions now. I can’t help but feel we had a chance to avoid that.
