I never saw West Wing first time round. Got box set and it is brilliantly produced, though dated obviously. Most of the dialogue takes place walking at speed along corridors!
It's been a long time coming but, Warrior continues to be good halfway through season 3.
The Reckoning is a bit of an uneasy watch, some performance from Steve Coogan though.
Has anyone reviewed Slow Horses yet? It's on Apple TV.
I've just watched the first 2 episodes and I'm gripped.
In episode 1, the boss, Lamb, is bit too debauched and nasty to be wholly realistic, but his character seems to calm down a bit in episode 2.
Otherwise the story is intelligent and, sadly, highly believable.
I'm already disappointed that there's only 6 episodes in each season.
It's been panned. Fellow massive fan here and yeah, they should have left it alone. Sounds like Kelsey Grammer wanted it and studios are basically desperate for any existing IP.
From what I read, there are various parts where Frasier does/says things that are wildly inconsistent with previous shows, forgetting basic stuff that happened in Cheers for example.
And Freddy is now a fireman and completely different from his teenage self. The worst part is, they could have used the original Freddy actor but chose to recast.
Think I'll avoid it entirely
Is anyone watching gen v?
I've quite enjoyed it so far.
Season 4 of Breeders starts on Sky Comedy on Thursday, a massively underrated show.
Tried it but didn’t last more than 10 minutes. Not sure I can place why but the canned laughter felt more invasive and forced than the original. Maybe it’s just the fact it wasn’t funny. Also instantly hated Niles’ son who, predictably, appears to be a genius moron.
Probably unfair to only give it 10 minutes, but it’s not for me.
Enjoying SAS Who Dares Wins “Celebrity” I love it probably because there are a lot of so called celebrities that I love seeing getting their ***** kicked daily. I cant be ***** with those ****ing Made in Chelsea, Porty or whatever reality stars but Im fair enjoying seeing Matt Hancock squirm 🤣
Hibs one game trialist Jermaine Pennant was on it too but he has been medically booted from the show
The Long Shadow continues to be very good, quality cast.
This should be on the pet peeve thread, but mentioning a TV programme without saying what channel or streaming platform it's on. 🙄
I have watched the first two episodes and it is not great but I think there is hope for it (it has a lot to live up to which is the shows biggest problem), there are remnants of the old show in it and references to the old show. I have not come across any inconsistencies from Cheers, which given it is set in Boston will be the main hark back but like I said I am only two in so far. Freddie could have been played by the original actor but he is just too old for the part as it is written, his character arc is certainly laid out over the first two shows and Jack Cutmore-Scott comes across really well, he especially captures Freddies teenage attitude towards Frasier which is fun to watch. I have taken an instant dislike to David Crane, Niles and Daphnie's son who seems determined just to do a Niles impression whenever on screen. The rest of the supporting cast is similar to the original show, based around the home and work of Frasier, Nick Lyndhurst is actually quite funny albeit a bit shallow in this. I will be watching the rest just because I was such a big fan of the original. I don't think I will have the same love I have for the original for this version but after two episodes I am not writing it off and it has never made me want to switch off yet.
Cobra Rebellion (sky ;-))is just as ludicrous as previous series.
Aljazeera their excellent coverage of the War on Gaza is second to none.
The last of us on Sky Atlantic , No bad but not as good as i thought it would be , P.S never played the game at all so no idea if it's similar
I'm just getting round to watching Partygate on All4, what a bunch of absolute tossers! 😡
Watched The Reckoning. Thought it was ok, Steven Coogan was very good and it made a decent attempt at conveying the horror of Saville's actions but I wasn't blown away. It felt like all the executives at the BBC were painted as feckless morons rather than complicit and there were too many conveniently placed older women who saw through him. The involvement of real life survivors was worthwhile though and it was good to see them given a voice.
Also watched the Beckham documentary on Netflix. I enjoyed it, it was more honest than I expected and dealt with a few issues that I thought would have been off limits. I forgot how mental the reaction to the red card in 1998 was. It's a timely reminder that OTT abuse of players didn't start with social media, guy hanging an effigy of him outside a pub, The Sun orchestrating a national hate campaign and opposing fans attacking the team bus and so on. Mad.
I enjoyed the Beckham story and was astonished at the backlash he received on his return to England, players trying to smash him on the pitch and more surprisingly ex England colleagues, Im sure I saw footage of Andy Sinton and Tim Sherwood trying to nail him, ******s 🤬
Watched the first episode of Bodies on Netflix looking like it may be very good.
Just caught up with Queen of the South, really enjoying it
Planet Earth 111 , Stunning camera work again, The Archer Fish were amazing . slightly depressing to see the way the planet and the animals habitats are changing and not for the good .
This series of Taskmaster has been absolutely woeful. Time to put it out of its misery I think.
My partner watches it religiously, listens to the podcasts etc, I dip in and out if it's on in the room when she's watching it. I've quite enjoyed it tbh, didn't think it seemed at all inferior to anything that went before.
She had the New Zealand version of it on the other day though - and that was just plain weird. Identical sort of format, different people and not at all funny.
I've just finished The Fall of the House of Usher.
It's 8 episodes based on Edgar Allan Poe stories and utterly captivating.
Highly recommended.
Watched the film Reptile on Netflix as half my street told me it was brilliant
Meh
This is an excellent adaptation and I would recommend it highly too. Being a weird kid my two favourite bedtime stories were The Tell Tale Heart and The Raven. The former was my mums speciality as she would use her foot to tap out the heartbeat on my bed frame whilst she read it to me, which totally freaked my young brain out. I loved the Raven for the beat of the poem, it got me to sleep quickly, my head would go under the covers at "Darkness there and nothing more" and I would be snoozing before she read 'Lenore'! I have no delusion as to where my love of horror books and movies came from, that seed was planted and nurtured by my mum. I just wish she had hid some of the movies I watched at way too young an age and which did mentally scar me a wee bit :greengrin
The Morning Show season 3 continues to impress. Apple TV.
Has anyone watched Undercover, about Ferry who is a Belgian drug lord ? I watched it a while back and thought it was really good viewing as was the follow up film called Ferry
I have just noticed there is another 8 part series on Netflix called Ferry which according to the date of November 2023, is this another new run or is it the previous ones from 2019 ? I watched the start of it earlier but to be honest I cant remember how the first series started 🤭
If you’ve not watched “Colin From Accounts” yet I can’t reccomend it highly enough.
Absolutely hilarious.
I finished Bodies the other night, I actually fair enjoyed it. As with all time travel shows its easy to pick holes or question certain elements, but if you just take it for face value and not delve too much into the paradoxes etc it was a show I'd recommend
I've got 2 episodes to go.
I'm with you. There are a couple of glaring plot holes but it's entertaining. Each of the stories in the respective time periods is well told and the overall storyline hold together pretty well. It's watchable and I've found myself doing the 'just one more episode' thing.
Louis Theroux interviews is back. Absolutely love this man. Don’t think I’ve ever seen him do something I haven’t liked. Anthony Joshua come across as a really nice guy. I’d love to see him fight Fury and win.
Mr in-between is very good. Gutted when it finished
Halfway through The Burning Girls, not sure what to make of it yet.
Just caught up with the Alienist on netflix and really enjoyed it, love how it has caught the detail of the late 1800s New York, pretty brutal in parts too and cast are great
Two Doors down coming on 24th November on the Beeb, cant wait
Kin is excellent
Just catching up on The Last Of Us now.
Never played the game but boy this is a good series. Flavours of the early Walking Dead for obvious reasons but none the less it’s very well done.
Any parent will enjoy the interaction between Joel and Ellie…her part is written and acted brilliantly.
The episode with Bill and Frank was also superb. I started off thinking it was yet another box tick but in the end thought it was a brilliant portrayal of humanity.
In other words I think this is some of the best TV I’ve watched for quite some time [emoji106]
Scrubland, Australian 4 part mini-series about a journalist who returns a year later to a small town that had a multiple shooting committed by the priest outside his church. He's there to write a short piece about the town on the anniversary of the shooting but after speaking to some locals and doing some digging he realises the real story behind why it happened hasn't yet come out
BBC IPlayer
Enjoying Payback on ITVX starring the lovely Morven Christie and Peter Mullen
With an idyllic family lifestyle in the suburbs of Edinburgh, Lexie Noble, played by Morven Christie, is unaware that her husband Jared has been laundering crime lord Cal Morris' illegal earnings on a vast scale - Jared's every move is being monitored by financial investigators DC Jibran Khan and DCI Adam Guthrie, who are determined to use the Noble family to bring Cal Morris to justice
Quite enjoying Brawn the impossible F1 story, 2 eps in to a 4 parter, realty quite interesting, I have no knowledge of it as I’m not a follower of F1 but it’s pretty good.
Disney+
Read the book a couple of years ago. Only watched the first program so far, but impressed how closely it follows the book, pretty much how I imagined the scenes when reading it. First one setting the scene, giving the background details, it gets better and better as the story progresses.
Boat Story. Fantastic viewing, funny, weird, intentionally bad writing but also the TV equivalent to a book that's a real page turner. Really enjoyed it.
