It's fine apparently because we refer to Chinese food, as its food that comes from China.

I totally agree re Trump, but he is just putting his slant on the precedence of how previous epidemics / pandemics were named i.e. Spanish Flu, Honk Kong Flu, MERS etc. Though his use of it is more towards his domestic audience in an effort to deflect from his deplorable handling of this crisis.
IMO yes. It is election year. Only time will tell, but the USA's response to this crisis will probably prove to be the most inept of any G20 country.
Pre COVID-19 I thought he was a shoo-in at the next election, now I think it will be a far closer result as his, almost criminal negligence, in dealing with this will make many US citizens have second thoughts about voting him in for a second term.
So he will be working overtime to deflect criticism of how this is being handled, and focusing blame on an another country is a handy tool which he will milk dry.
He is going to be responsible for the deaths of many more Americans that there needs to be with his view on this, even today he is saying America will soon be open for business, referring everything back to the economy and blaming the media somehow for the spread of the virus?
The man is not a fit human being, has no regard for life or for the welfare of the country he is supposed to be leading and this will end in disaster for America. Thankfully the state governors are generally more in tune with whats going on and putting the states on lockdown.
I know the UK response has been muddled at times but am very glad I am here and not in the USA.
He is desperate for the economy to rebound for his re-election. There is nothing he would not do to get re-elected because there is every chance his whole empire would collapse if he does not have the protection of the presidency and he goes to jail.

He is getting found out and there is no escape.
Even Boris (of whom I am not a fan) has managed to get his s**t together to an extent, and it will be interesting how much attention he pays to Cummings in future - had Boris continued down the Cummings route then the country would be f****d and along with it Boris' political career and legacy. Boris has the potential to emerge almost Churchillian from this is he can keep the damage caused by this virus to a minimum and at a lower rate than in other countries.
When this is all over, the likes of Boris would do well to remember who they listened to, who said what and what were the potential consequences - with hindsight - of those suggestions.
It is a tragedy of immense proportions that they have Trump in charge at this time and it could cost thousands of lives.
Unfortunately thousands of lives could easily turn into tens or hundreds of thousands or worse. And he attacks the media when they ask simple straightforward questions and blames it all on fake news. It is terrifying that this complete self centred idiot can even get to this level of power. He is a shyster of a snake oil salesman and I hope his business world collapses around him.
Am not a big Boris fan but was quite impressed with his address yesterday, first time for me he has shown what I expect from a PM in troubled times.

Maybe not the right thread but the sense I am getting is that Cummings was very much ‘let it go’ then did a u-turn and started advising lockdown etc.
I am no fan of Boris, no fan of the Tories, I am a Labour Party member, albeit a reluctant one under Corbyn. But the Tories won a decent majority at the last election and Boris is coming across so far, as amazing as it might seem as serious and competent. I am not convinced he is serious and competent but I think as it stands, he is doing more than enough to convince marginal voters in England that he is up for the job.
Assuming Keir Starmer gets the Labour gig, and unless Johnson is shown to have culpably done wrong, then Labour have a mountain to climb. Johnson just needs to keep repeating the stoic, resolute lines and the marginal constituencies will vote for him in droves.
My bigger worry is the U.K. government commitment to ploughing billions, if not more, into the economy. It is not that I disagree, I’m probably a Keynesian at heart, but I am suspicious.
My suspicion is that government will obviously ramp up the credit card, or use QE. And when this is over, the deficit will be used as an excuse to slash funding in the public sector and reduce the role of the state, as a remedy.
I am on a different end of the spectrum from neo-liberals and libertarians, but if I was in their shoes I would be rubbing my hands in glee. They will have the opportunity to re-write the narrative. They take the credit for saving the economy, as they are in power, and then have credibility for making things right and off-setting the massive, additional spend - which means an ideological axe to the public sector.
I loved the genre of films in the 70s that were very dystopian. I fear that we might be at risk of realising it. I suspect that common sense and pragmatism will prevail. And if they don’t then we are truly ****ed :greengrin
Trump has started using the “the cure cannot be worse than the problem” line that’s come from the US right wing. Basically meaning it would be worth an unimaginable death toll if the economy was okay. He does not want a total lockdown. He’s off his f’ng head.
Trump is now looking at his strategy to win another term and the hand that he wants to play is a bouyant economy and stock market and close to full employment. That is what is driving his decisions and not the health of the US citizens.

A good summary of how much of a f-wit the man is. No doubt this will be dismissed as FAKE NEWS by certain imbeciles who think Trump can do no wrong.
Sadly Cuomo won’t get many favours from Trump as his brother is one of the main faces of “FAKE NEWS” CNN. I have absolutely no doubt he would be that petty, even in this crisis.
Trump now saying the US will be back up and running by Easter Sunday to ensure the churches can be full at that special time.
At this rate Mexico might be the one building the wall to deal with immigration..
Its madness, he has put his fingers in his ears and shut his eyes and is shouting "la la la I can't hear you, all is well, fake news" loudly to block it out, or this proves just how much of a total and utter idiot this man is if he doesn't get it. He is looking for a second term and to protect his failing businesses.
He will kill many Americans by his choice of narrative and his actions.
Scroll down to the first video, a collection of press conferences from Trump since the outbreak. It is truly scary.

Can't he comprehend that just because he would sell his granny for a dollar doesn't mean everyone has the same lack of morality as him?
