Is the weight that unlikely? Maybe I don't have a good grasp of the likely weight of a portly gentleman, but 215 lbs is about 100 kg, and Trump being 100 kg of tub doesn't seem all that unlikely to me. The NFL quarterback comparison doesn't seem relevant as they are presumably 100 kg of muscle (making them technically overweight for their height in BMI terms – normal weight metrics don't really make sense for those kind of athletes).
Am I miles off here? What weight do you think he really is?
How did he get access to his ugly puss mugshot and permission to use it publicly? He seems to have total control over the powers that be in the USA, suggesting he will probably be the next President.
actually we're maybe being a tad unfair, i for one am struggling to see the difference...maybe Donny's muscles/fat etc are just in different areas

To prove it, here's his social media post from the weekend:
I am pleased to report, for those that care, that I just won the Senior Club Championship (must be over 50 years old!) at Bedminster (Trump National Golf Club), shooting a round of 67. Now some people will think that sounds low but there is no hanky/lanky. Many people watch, plus I am surrounded by Secret Service Agents. Not much you can do even if you wanted to, and I don't. For some reason, I am just a good golfer/athlete - I have won many Club Championships, and it is always a great honor!'
Trumps team refused permission to delay trial to post election. Trial set for March 4th 🍿
Pffft…..amateur.

Donald Trump vows to lock up political enemies if he returns to White House
Former president tells Glenn Beck he would have ‘no choice’ but to lock up opponents ‘because they’re doing it to us
I saw clips of Mitch McConnell looking extremely unwell where he simply stops functioning for a long spell at a press conference. Wouldn't surprise me if Trump took the piss out of him.
215lb is around 15st 3lb, he's nearer 240-255lb or 17-18st.
I'm not convinced about that either - I've seen him interviewed a few times in the recent past, and he's lucid enough. I think he's too old, suffering some kind of medical / neurological issue that needs checked more urgently than seems to be happening, and needs to retire, but I'd hesitate to say he was senile.
Also, he's a wrong 'un. However, he seems to be seen by some of the more old-style Republicans as necessary to put some kind of brake on the progress of the outright nutters in the party. Not sure to what extent that's happening, or how much worse it could actually be , but it's an opinion.
My guess that he is senile, or more accurately has 'dementia' (accepting that I may be wrong) , is based largely on my experience of family members that have gone through similar phases where they appear to be lucid, then suddenly change to appear confused/disoriented
This a good article that describes typical symptoms.
https://alzheimer.ca/en/about-dement...signs-dementia
You might be right; we don't know. I suppose I was being a bit pedantic about him 'clearly' looking senile. It's a possible explanation for the kind of 'absences' that he's been suffering, but there are other possibilities. My first thought was that he's suffering after effects of a stroke.
He also has some kind of infirmity as a result of polio as a child, and has had a number of reported falls , and a recent spell in hospital following a head injury after falling.
Anyway, whether dementia or something else, I think we're both agreed that it's time for him to call it a day.
It is but there is a simple answer - he retires. No one is forcing him up there.
I read a suggestion that he's clinging on as if he resigns, the process for selecting his replacement involves the state Governer making the final decision from a shortlist. And guess what party the Governor is from? Yup, he's a Democrat.
I've just read a report in the New York Times saying the Republicans, who have a supermajority in the Kentucky congress, changed the state's law a couple of years back, so the majority get to select 3 candidates from their own party, who the governor then has to pick from for election.
And McConnell voted for the change... So he's made sure that isn't happening.
Maybe he's just one of those people who cling on because they think they're indispensable. Maybe he genuinely thinks he can rein in the lunatics.
I was talking more about the growing populist / conspiracy theorist Republican faction in government than Trump, who - even if he did disagree with him on policy - is uncontrollable. McConnell's definitely not a good guy, and he carries the distinction of being, perhaps, the one person who could have prevented all of this nonsense via the impeachment trials. He's somebody who apparently hates Trump, knows exactly who he is and the dangers he presents to the country, has publicly blamed him for the Jan 6 riot, could have stopped him in his tracks and didn't. Twice.
I struggle to get my head around the various senior figures who have spoken out against Trump, written books about how unsuitable for the job he is, blamed him for the insurrection attempt and in some cases given evidence against him... yet have said they would still vote for him if he is the candidate.

Trump :agree:
i know i've said 20+ times i'd love to see Trump in jail i think maybe some other type of institution would be more appropriate for him/it Trump issues call for Senate Republicans to prepare for revenge: 'We will put them all in jail' (msn.com)
a stick on, and even if Trump ended up in jail Biden would pardon him 24 hours later
i would think
Biden or Trump, what a choice the yank voters have
one can hardly see the script in front of him and the other is the most repugnant individual/politician in the country
Even if you somehow actually do believe Biden would auto pardon Trump (personally I struggle to understand that narrative) the President can only pardon those that have been found guilty of federal offences.
The recent mug shot was from Trump being arrested and accused of rather serious offences against the state of Georgia. The President has no power to pardon those.
at least one someone in iowa doesn't like him

Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly finally goes on the record about his former boss. It should be devastating.
https://edition.cnn.com/2023/10/02/p...ans/index.html
Quote:
“What can I add that has not already been said?” Kelly said, when asked if he wanted to weigh in on his former boss in light of recent comments made by other former Trump officials. “A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them.’ A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France.
“A person who is not truthful regarding his position on the protection of unborn life, on women, on minorities, on evangelical Christians, on Jews, on working men and women,” Kelly continued. “A person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about. A person who cavalierly suggests that a selfless warrior who has served his country for 40 years in peacetime and war should lose his life for treason – in expectation that someone will take action. A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law.
“There is nothing more that can be said,” Kelly concluded. “God help us.”
well said De Niro :agree: Robert De Niro Rips Donald Trump: He’s “Evil” | The New Republic
I’ve spent a lot of time studying bad men. I’ve examined their characteristics, their mannerisms, the utter banality of their cruelty. Yet there’s something different about Donald Trump. When I look at him, I don’t see a bad man. Truly.
I see an evil one.
Over the years, I’ve met gangsters here and there. This guy tries to be one, but he can’t quite pull it off. There’s such a thing as “honor among thieves.” Yes, even criminals usually have a sense of right and wrong. Whether they do the right thing or not is a different story—but—they have a moral code, however warped.
Donald Trump does not. He’s a wannabe tough guy with no morals or ethics. No sense of right or wrong. No regard for anyone but himself—not the people he was supposed to lead and protect, not the people he does business with, not the people who follow him, blindly and loyally, not even the people who consider themselves his “friends.” He has contempt for all of them.
It's sad to watch. Someone, his family, friends, should step in.

His week in a NY court room has not been going well for him. But frankly it is mental that he has not been found in contempt for what he has done this week. I suppose it is the USAs 1st amendment preventing him being locked up for contempt. He was censured by the judge in court for speaking loudly whilst a witness was giving testimony, not a huge issue except he was trying to say the person on the stand was lying, whilst they were giving testimony.
He has problems in Georgia too where Sidney Powell his mad lawyer has plead guilty on a plea deal to trying to overturn the election result in that state, she has been given 6 years probation and will be compelled to testify against Trump if called by the prosecution, but given their strong case that might not have to happen.
It is crazy that he is the republican's front runner for 2024, he could literally be in jail whist contesting the presidency. It would of course test the US legal system as to whether he could become President again but there is precedent for a candidate campaigning from jail before. If he does manage to get into power again it will be a scary world, the worlds largest military machine in the hands of a want-to-be dictator!!
don't just threaten, freakin do it the big orange radge just can't keep his big gub shut Judge threatens to jail Trump for 'blatant' gag order violation - BBC News and do it before someone is killed
A New York judge has threatened Donald Trump with jail for a "blatant violation" of a gag order in his civil fraud trial.
Judge Arthur Engoron said in court that the former president had failed to remove a social media post mocking a clerk at the court.
Judge Engoron demanded Mr Trump take down the "untrue and disparaging" post about the clerk earlier this month.
He said the post was deleted on social media, but remained on his website.
"Incendiary untruths can and have led to serious physical harm," Judge Engoron said on Friday.
Is it just me that thinks he will never see jail because the fallout would be so seismic that the government would struggle to control it?
I've read a lot of commentators suggesting that, if he gets time, he'll serve it under house arrest at Mar a Lago or somewhere, because of the security implications with putting him in a regular jail.
Surely he’s playing for time so he can get elected then pardon himself?
He had the chance to pardon himself before but knew how the optics would look so pleaded innocence. Now he’s portraying it as a witch hunt which is seeing him leading in the polls.
I must say, I hate him. I hate what he did in Scotland. I think he is an absolute buffoon but there is so many cases against him, it’s hard to not believe it is a bit of a witch hunt.
He is facing charges in Georgia where it’s a mandatory 5 years. He can’t pardon himself from that. And even if Georgia elects a friendly governor, he has no pardon power.
And why do you think it’s a witch hunt? If he’s guilty then he should be prosecuted surely?

This. From everything I've seen the evidence against him is overwhelming.
It was an absolute disgrace that Nixon got away with numerous criminal acts simply because he was President. That cannot be allowed to happen again, especially when Trump has literally tried to stage a coup and illegally take over the country.
As far as I am concerned he is a lunatic and he will be found guilty of many of the charges.
I hate that he has abused his ‘status’ to get planning for his golf courses in Scotland shafted us.
I hope he rots in jail.
But…things like over inflating his wealth to get loans etc. I’m sure many do that. If he defaulted on a loan and the bank investigated and he was found to have given false statements then yes I can understand the charges.
But no one is bringing a case against him apart from the state.
I think it would be better to have 3-4 absolutely solid cases against him and nail him. Instead you have so many cases that it gives his supporters a cause to fight against.
I just wish they’d hurry up and get him to trial. Put him to be d for good.
That said, isn’t there something bizarre that a serving felon although cannot vote but can run for President?
J
That may be about to change, there's a case against him in Colorado (yeah it is hard to keep up with them all!), that has just moved forward significantly. This case refers to a section of the 14th Amendment which states anyone involved in an insurrection or rebellion, or who gives aid or comfort to those who carry out an insurrection, cannot run for president. He has moved to dismiss twice now and the judge has just chucked out the second movement to dismiss which should mean this will now move to trial, his first application to dismiss was based on the 1st amendment and that was chucked out last week, that was more likely to succeed. The 2nd motion to dismiss was based on the 'fact' that the presidential oath doesn't require the President to 'support' the constitution but to 'protect and defend' it, which his legal team says it means he is not under any obligation to follow the constitution. Which is mental and never likely to succeed. If this goes against him at trial, he will not be able to run for President in 2024.
As others have said it certainly looks like he is riding the wave of indictments, pushing them as far up the court circuit system as he can so he can try and become president again, where he would pardon himself, this of course works for federal law breaking, Trump's problem is most of his indictments are state led indictments. There are a few saying that he would force through new laws to allow him to pardon himself at state level too but lets be clear, if he wins a second term the laws and constitution of the USA will become pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
The second motion to dismiss could be interpreted as an admission of guilt, just that the law doesn’t apply. Now that the motion has been dismissed, you wonder where it leaves his acceptance of what he did. A but like someone saying they shouldn’t pay a parking ticket because they don’t need to adhere to double yellows, then when that fails, they’ve essentially said they were parked on the lines.
His acceptance will never be forthcoming, that comes from his narcissism, he can do not wrong in his own eyes, even if it is clear as day to everyone else, I believe Trump will still think it is a stitch up when everything goes breasts skywards. The fact is his lawyers are no longer 'top' lawyers, they are pretty low grade, he has gone downhill since he employed Sidney Powell who is likely to be disbarred in the coming months. So almost everything he will try from now on will be outlandish to say the least! The fact his lawyers actually had to write down the phrase "the presidential oath doesn't require the President to 'support' the constitution but to 'protect and defend' it" and submit it to a judge tells you almost everything you need to know about what level lawyers the man is down to now, his propensity to not pay lawyers is well known and will usually relieve you of not just the top layer of lawyers but the majority of them immediately and the rest will want payment up front will hinder all his dealing in court. It would all be really funny if there was not so much riding on it all.
I personally don’t think he even makes it to the start line in a run for the White House. I think his legal problems will engulf him pretty soon. Money problems will follow. I think by the time the new President is being sworn in, Trumps empire will have collapsed and he will be going to jail along with his kids and cronies.

I’ve no time for that level of stupidity.

You would hope, but his supporters seem to be living in a kind of alternative truth / don't care about the truth universe, and they - or certainly some of them - will deny obvious truths, or make them fit their mindset. It's faith based, and there's no arguing or persuading that can counter their nonsense.
He's completely brilliant.

Yeah, I've seen enough of the electorate in the UK and US over the last decade to make it clear to me that massive chunks of the population barely have a brain cell between them.
Over here, after the 13 years of disastrous Tory rule they are still polling around 27%. I think many voters are a dangerous mix of stupid, arrogant and unwilling to reflect and admit they have made mistakes.
And I'm tired of being told we need to listen to them. We've listened and been forced to follow them with Brexit here and Trump in the US. And guess what? They were the complete and utter **** shows every sensible person predicted. I'm done listening to these morons or respecting them.
Trump is a moron, racist, fascist, rapist who can barely string a sentence together. If you vote for him you are trash.
It can be a dangerous game if they focus on him being stupid. A lot of pollsters and commentators reckon the constant focus on George Bush Jr being stupid lost them the tight election.
All democrat papers and adds just kept on going after gwb being daft. Republicans would answer in polls yeah we get that but he seems honest or tough on crime or whatever. Democrats would come back and say yes but look how stupid he is. Many swing voters thought it was middle class sneering and looking down.
We probably get the same with brexit. The less educated on average and the lower your household income the more likely you were to vote for brexit. 60% of households earning under 20k voted brexit 35% of over 60k.
It's easy to call them stupid, I prefer to think better of them and say they were manipulated and lied to by a very well oiled machine.
