I think in *some* cases (I reiterate some for fear of offending any driving instructors ), it seems that you’re not so much taught to drive, as taught to pass the driving test.
For example, when I learned to drive (a fair while ago), I was taught to reverse park by looking for a particular sticker on the back door window passing a given point, and then turn the wheel 3/4 turn. Which is fine, until you realise that another car won’t have the same sticker, door layout or length, and the gearing on the steering wheel will be different.
