On way back from the game. Thought we played OK. Can the idiots booing Vine coming onto the pitch avoid Hibs games in future? Pathetic "support" of a Hibs player. If you need something to do at the weekend and enjoy booing Hibs players **** off to tynecastle.
He created absolutely nothing! Craig had a couple of decent efforts which were saved and played Heffernan through for the red card. Robertson looked a lot more dangerous today, drove at defenders and almost scored a fantastic solo goal. I'm aware there's more to being a midfielder than being creative, but when you're playing left wing, you've got a responsibility to create things, take on your man and put in some decent crosses. If Stevenson was playing in Thomson's role perhaps I would be a bit more lenient, but we need more from our wide men than what Stevenson can offer us.
I disagree.
Stevenson has more pace in 1 of his toes than Liam Craig does. He's the type of player that tries desperately to make something happen. But it's easy to run out of steam when you're constantly forced to run the full length of the pitch to try and get something going.
Craig is all about half hearted lumps into the box from poor angles.
Heading back from the game.
Thought Hibs played okay, didn't take any of our chances. Robertson and Thomson were superb.
Sutton bullied our two centre halves and as for the goal they were always looking to hit McManus.
Met John brownlie. Lovely man
Stevenson is a great utility player to have in the squad. Always gives 100%. However when he is getting a regular game you know there is a problem with the quality of the team. His crossing was woeful and while he's not the slowest, either Harris when fit or a new signing on the left should take that position.
Better than either the Aberdeen or Hertz game but a long way to go.
Opinions will always differ thats what makes good debates. My comment re armchair fans was not directed at you and i apologise if you thought it was, I just replied on your post about Stevenson, who I thought had a decent game today.
I would be first to moan about Stevenson if had a poor game, but i get sick how he just appears to be the default choice by a lot of fans when things go wrong!
You quite happy for Stevenson to play at left wing for the rest of the season then yeah? Who do you reckon would create more in that position? Liam or Lewis?
And there's the old "He tries" chestnut again. He looks absolutely lost when trying to make something happen. As I said, back up LB. That's all.
I think Stevenson would offer us more in that position than Craig everytime. I think he's more capable of getting to the byline and causing problems. But he's not able to do that at the moment, because running the full length of the pitch back and forth for 90 minutes, is zapping all of his energy.
LC has shown that he's incapable of taking players on. I haven't once seen him turn a defender to get himself into the box or to the byline. Instead, he lumps the ball into the box from about 40 yards, hoping for some miracle to happen.
You've come up with some belters on this site, but this surely takes the biscuit. Craig has scored 6 goals this season playing on the left, Stevenson has scored 1 goal in 6 years. On the handful of occasions Lewis got the ball at the byline, how many times did he cause Motherwell problems? None, because his final ball is crap. You're right it probably did zap his energy doing all of that running, which is just another reason he shouldn't be playing there.
I can't remember Craig "lumping the ball into the box from 40 yards" once today TBH. He was playing in the hole, dropping into space and playing the ball wide to our wing king Stevenson. Also, I thought Craig got absolutely no decisions from the ref today. he seemed to be pushed nearly everytime he got the ball with his back to play.
The game mostly passed Craig by in the first half, got into it more in the 2nd. Stevenson did alright throughout the game but he's definitely not an attacking midfielder type play. He has no final ball in his locker. He's better in a defensive role he's good at breaking up play IMO
No they don't - they get a wee man with a board telling them how long and another wee man with a watch that can tell them how long.
:agree: He can't cross a ball any higher than knee cap height. No doubt he works hard but we've now confirmed he's not a right back or a left midfielder. So it's left back or centre mid that he must be good at?
out of curiosity, was it that dirty **** Hutchinson that got sent off the same player that put wee Harris out for a few months ?
Not a typical hibs display in my opinion, but a predictable result. We actually created a few chances, and kept the ball quite well at times.
Lost to another defensive mistake, and couldn't score as usual.
We are 2 full backs 2 wide midfielders and a forward away from being good enough to compete for Europe in my opinion.
We are creating chances. But it's never anything clear cut. It's extremely difficult to score goals when you can't carve your opponents open.
We're screaming out for more urgency. Players who want to run at defenders. Players looking to make those dangerous through passes. Players that the opposition will actually be frightened to play against.
We just don't seem to strike any fear into opposition teams at the moment.
We look very static. There's no sense of leadership. And there's nobody in the team looking to seize the initiative.
I thought we were lucky to go in at half time just the 1 goal down but it was a different story in the second half and you would have thought that we were the home team. By then the damage had been done but compared to the Partick game we were a much better team.
The signings of Vine, OTJ and Mullen were unnecessary and the wrong areas that needed addressed.
We lost Leigh and Eoin's goals and should have secured Jorge as well as getting blistering pace out wide. Taylor should have been wrapped up in January.
I agree with your assessment of where needs attention though BH.
Thought we played quite well today. Apart from McGivern losing his man for the goal.
Lewis was steady (like most of the others) however his crossing was woeful.
Robertson is totally wasted out on the right and needs to be played central. He tried to get onto a ball into the middle but had too much ground to cover.
I am a very big fan of TT but where has the player of the tail end of last year gone. A yard off the pace at times.
Maybe it's time to play with just Thomson in the middle (1DCM) and bring in Robertson alongside him pushing forward at every opportunity.
Thought Vine looked ok when he came on (barring his free kick) got into some no bad positions and a few looks up and crossed.
Zoubir- sorry but this lad has brought not a lot to the team and today showed to me that he needs to on a bit of muscle. Every time he got the ball he was disposed of it way too easy. He is not a winger and is more of an AM.
There seemed to be a bit more positivity, more so in 2nd half going forward but we must get Heff more support if we are to start scoring goals.
Sure the new man will have some ideas so fingers crossed.
Is he ? Every time he sees the ball his first thought is to drop inside - and he has next to no pace. Tricky feet, decent skill on the turn but as stated, weak physically.
May be better played as a link up player off the striker with his quick feet/mind - can't see him beating many full backs for pace at all though, unlike the 'Well boy today.

I thought we deserved a point due to a good second half performance. We started like a team low on confidence, as you'd expect, but improved as the games progressed, missing a couple of very good chances late on. We've played much worse than that this season.
I rarely read match day threads because I'm at the game and don't fancy reading all the criticisms :greengrin
Just a few general observations on this thread though
Why are folk surprised that it was the same old, same old? Still Pat's team even though he's now away. Wait for the new man to maske changes
Usual players getting grief while others duck under the radar. McGivern was woeful today but very few criticisms on here in comparison to Lewis who was largely solid throughout
Contrary to what some suggest, Liam Craig struggled to get involved until he drifted wide left - maybe PF was right after all
The Hibs support. Quiet and strangely housed in both tiers of the stand - why?
That'll do me for now :greengrin
Stevenson has no end product whatsoever, one of his crosses sailed over into the stands and the other 4 or 5 attempt's hit the first man. If he is going to be used in midfield he can't be a creative outlet, he should be in the back doing the "unseen work".
