Regarding England Players taking the knee in a stance against racism...
"For the first time in my life I will not be watching my beloved England team whilst they are supporting a political movement whose core principles aim to undermine our very way of life."
Lee Anderson

Councillor Lee Anderson suspended by Labour Party in 2018 for dumping boulders to block access to a Traveller camp site
https://www.chad.co.uk/news/councill...-group-1047424
...he then defects to the Conservatives shortly after, then this happens...
"'Nuisance' council tenants 'should live in tents' says Ashfield Tory candidate"
"...certain "nuisance tenants" on the Carsic estate were "making people's lives a complete misery".He then said: "These people, who have to live somewhere, let's have them in a tent, in the middle of a field.
"Six o'clock every morning, let's have them up. Let's have them in the field, picking potatoes or any other seasonal vegetables, back in the tent, cold shower, lights out, six o'clock, same again the next day."

He's later investigated by the Conservative party for Anti-Semitism

And most recently, the foodbank statement.
What a guy!
He is a detestable excuse for a human being, Keith.
He parrots the 'I was a miner, my dad was a miner' working class hero stuff in interview after interview - one of them a rather chummy affair with Nigel Farage. He is an inverted snob and a con man. He reminds me of the old Harry Enfield Yorkshireman character, 'I say what I like and I like what I bloody well say'. Christ, you'd think him and his dad were the only people who ever went down a pit.
He was once caught out setting up a fake interview with a mate when out canvassing and door knocking

absolutely no surprise re the post about Starmer either, the sooner all labour voters realise he's a Tory the better :agree:
Possible libel against Anderson I see.
Most people, even those you don't generally agree with can sometimes say and do good things. Anderson is one of those people who seem totally irredeemable in almost every thought and action. The millionaire Anderson has a screw loose.
'In the new clip Lee Anderson blasts Jack Monroeafter she called him a “rich, white privileged male”
He told Martin Dubney: “I’m giving my time & my money to help the people in Ashfield. She’s taking money off some of the most vulnerable in society.”
He then claimed that she has made a lot of money selling books, ‘she is taking money off some of the most vulnerable in society and making an absolute fortune on the back of people. I’m not rich.”'
https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/watch-jack-monroe-claims-outright-libel-after-lee-anderson-slams-her-in-video-322565/
I’m a big fan of Jack Monroe, her response to the ridiculous pile on she’s experienced from right wingers over the last few days is below.
I hope her defamation lawsuits are as successful as hers against that sackful of bile and hate Katie Hopkins.
https://cookingonabootstrap.com/2022...and-a-tory-mp/
As sad as it is that this niche for her exists (a criticism not of her and one I'm sure she'd agree with with) I find her a beacon of hope and goodness in an increasingly bleak landscape.
She has good on her side and is articulate and intelligent enough to be able to use it.
Very well said Smartie. I also find some inspiration that there are still people like her around.
Crazy isn't it? What kind of person wants to stand in the way of and object to someone doing good for others.
I noticed after Anderson invited the world to Sutton-in-Ashfield to view 'his' food bank, a prominent older lady involved in running it sought to distance herself from his views in front of the cameras. She was obviously somewhat inhibited or intimidated by Anderson shouting off and bringing national media to the food bank in expressing her views but nevertheless did not agree with his point of view. Then again, her only reason for being there was to help others less fortunate, not make political capital out of it like Anderson.
Glad to read this news about Jack Monroe sueing. Perhaps it will teach him to stop lashing out at everyone who doesn't agree with him though I somehow doubt that.

Bitterly disappointed in the people of Grantham.
It took two full hours after the statue being erected for it to be egged.
PS There is no harbour in Grantham.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJaW...el=DailyRecord
I’ve been following her for a long time and she’s genuine and bases her politics on real life experience, also lived on the breadline herself as a single parent in Kent on benefits. A lot of her recipes are based on canned and frozen food and are damn tasty, reflecting the reality that ‘fresh’ food isn’t always necessary to make most recipes. It’s a central truth that more knowledge about cooking and being frugal is necessary, but this Tory twists that and makes it into a dividing line between the deserving and undeserving poor. Disgusting really.
Reported on LBC earlier that a leaked document from Liz Truss's office had plans for the Government to purchase one of the most sought after town houses in Manhattan valued at approx £20m, the reason "to entertain foreign dignitaries and business people". So that's a new ship, two planes one of which with fancy paintwork and now a £20m party pad in Manhattan. Some people don't seem to be struggling as much as others.

Quote:
Minister says people should work more hours or move to a better job to protect themselves from cost of living surge
Only one goal in appointing people to the cabinet: candidates should not be seen by Tory members as a possible successor to Johnson in the event of a leadership challenge.
Two routes: appoint people who either
(1) have brown skin
(2) are visibly stupid
or both, like Patel.
Maclean is a number 2.
The cokehead is an outlier here, but I can't think of any other exceptions.
Tory Rachel McLean’s solution to the Cost of Living Crisis is work more hours or find a better paying job…. Next step will be workhouses :fuming:
This is what that odious tory Lee Anderson wants. 30p meals are basically gruel, and he wants you to perform tasks to get that gruel. That is pretty much a workhouse. To go along with the workhouses the tories would also re-introduce debtors prison, where you get sent to work off your debt at slave labour rates whilst they charge you for the 'free' accommodation they offer and gruel at £1 a plate, because you know, they need to make a profit on the food they provide you. But don't worry they won't introduce debtors prison until the NHS is totally privatised and people already on their knees will need to face medical debt too.
It's unbelievable how often these sad, ridiculous type of statements crop up from the detestable Tories, that coupled with Tory ministers families and friends being awarded millions, or in some cases literally Billions of taxpayers money via dodgy contracts.
I'd urge anybody who can do so to join a political party which opposes the Tories, and then help out with leafletting etc.
I'd say the solution to rid ourselves of people like Anderson is to vote for independence and free our country from these selfish morons in Westminster.
Scotland would be a much better and fairer place without these type of ramblings from Westminster and also from the unelected friends of Tories who sit in the House of Lords.
Roll on the 2023 referendum 🏴
GGTTH
I can’t see it and don’t think the timing is right for SNP. I think NS is of a similar opinion and that’s why it’s taking so long to bring bill before parliament. Like all parties though, the SNP has to placate its fundamentalists though so can’t be that sure about what happens.

No doubt our intention to hold a referendum in our own country will be strongly resisted by the Tory government and by their unionist friends in Westminster, but our Scottish parliament have a mandate from the last Scottish election to hold an independence referendum within this parliamentary period.
So to answer your question, I think it's a 10 that the referendum in Scotland will happen in 2023.
GGTTH
I think you are spot on, but Nicola Sturgeon does seem to get a fairly easy ride from her supporters so far, but if she fails to deliver another referendum in 2023 then for the first time ever does she start to feel the pressure from supporters who are taking her word for it and that it's happening in 2023.
This is quite a read. Remember when you've read it it's time to move as the Govt are trying "to get on with the job", whatever that is.

Andrew Rosindell MP has done some very interesting work for the all party ‘flags and heraldry’ committee. Amazing what they get up to at the HoC.
It's almost like S1 of Anatomy of a Scandal was a documentary.
We have somehow managed to sleepwalk into a situation where the very worst people in society have an iron grip on power.
Sociopaths, misogynists, racists, rapists, xenophobes, narcissists and psychopaths.
For years I honestly thought the country would come to it's collective senses but I'm no longer convinced. If there was an election tomorrow this shower would probably win again.

BBC News - Channel 4 News didn't do itself any favours, says Nadine Dorries

She's admitted publicly that she's breaking the law by sharing her Netflix log-in!
Surely as the minister for culture she should be 100% on the level and not deprive one of the companies she has ministerial responsibilities over from earning legitimate revenue?
Is she though?
I subscribe to the premium Netflix subscription.
I get 4(maybe 5) logins. They are all used by family but one is my mum, another is my daughter who is at uni.
I could be wrong, but there's nothing in the T's & C's saying I can't do this.
The issue Netflix currently have is folk sharing the same account login/password.
Pretty sure the T&C’s say that you all have to reside at same address? My wife’s mum can log in to ours although she never does. Lots of people do it and more power to them but for a govt minister in charge of that very industry to admit it?

A brilliant impassioned speech from her. I just think it’s interesting that in style and content it’s pure Tony Benn, but her natural home is now the SNP, and it’s actually rather laughable imagining her in Scottish Labour, far less in Starmers Party, where local candidates are purged in favour of parachuted in faceless Blairite suit n ties. The SNP have managed to remain a broad church for different ideological opinions among their representatives and retain party discipline at the same time. It’s a neat trick.

Imagine you’re a civil servant, you go to a lockdown party at #10, the PM pours the drinks and walks round chatting to you and it’s clearly his party, but you get fined for attending and he doesn’t for holding it? And this happens 125 other times while he gets fined ONCE?
The Met aren’t a police force, they’re the Tory stormtroopers.
‘ One Whitehall source pointed out that junior civil servants had received FPNs for going to at least one event which the prime minister not only attended but also gave a speech at.’
I have a suspicion that starmer saying he will resign if fined may have influenced the police response to not giving Johnson any further fines. Let's face it, if others at the BYOB garden party were fined then so should he and his wife.
Johnson and Gray had a private meeting a month ago to discuss handling of the report.
Do they actually do anything that isn't corrupt any more? They've long since bothered to try and hide the lies and deception. They know they can lie with impunity. These are dangerous times in UK politics. I fear for the future.

Always liked Mhairi Black. She's the kind of radical (relatively speaking) voice that an independent Scotland needs.
There's going to be huge risk that in the desperation for consensus there will be a broad continuation of neoliberalism albeit with more of a social conscience. People like Black are the voices we need to make sure that doesn't happen.
