Long overdue. No doubt he'll claim it's a witch hunt. He'll then throw everyone and anyone, including his kids, under the bus.
Once/if he loses such a case then I can see him getting done for many others. The list of investigations is incredible.
I'd point out that it's a civil case and he's being sued for $250m rather than being charged for a crime. That said, a referral is going to federal prosecutors so it could lead to him ending up in a criminal court too.
Top Trump Organization finance guys, CFO Allen Weisselberg and Controller Jeffrey McConney not included in the lawsuit so seems like they may have struck a deal in exchange for testifying against Trump and his kids.
Referred to the IRS for criminal prosecution, it's beautiful. Financial journalists have said for years he was committing fraud in relation to asset valuations, in addition to tax evasion. Then there are his separate cases - there has to be a good chance he will be prosecuted in relation to the stolen secret documents.

In terms of the bankers, it has been widely reported that Deutsche Bank were complicit over the years.
However in other examples it seems that normal due process has just been waived due to Trumps profile and the perception of reputational risk to not deal with him. If you look at Turnberry for example, that purchase should never have been allowed. By all accounts Trump bought it without debt funding and with no clear source of wealth evidenced. It's not his only asset where he just produced cash out of nowhere. Hence it's subsequently been the subject of proposed "Unexplained Wealth Orders" - albeit I don't think that has gotten very far.
:agree:
Ernst and Young were Wirecard A.G's auditors for years but failed to notice that the vast majority of it's 'Assets' were in fact a total fraud, with vastly inflated values that helped increase the value of the company shares,.
The collapse of Wirecard was Germany's biggest financial scandal for decades, and came about through an almost total lack of diligence on the part of their Auditors

Trumps request and installation of a special master in the case of the documents found at Maralago has royally backfired on him and his lawyers. This was triggered by the dodgy judge who gave Trump the opportunity to install a special master (a judge specifically to look at the documents found and judge what needs done with them), he submitted two candidate and the DOJ agreed with one and they were installed (Judge Dearie). This was a tactic to slow the legal process down and to shove as many spanners in the works as possible. Anyway, it turns out the Judge Dearie is a competent and able judge with knowledge of Trumps dealing with court and the legal system. He issued a case management order to tell Trump has to submit an affidavit under penalty of perjury to the court regarding his claims about the remaining documents at issue by the end of this month. Judge Dearie set an expedited timetable for completing the review of records and ordered Trum to pay a retired Judge $500 p/hour to help review records, and knowing Trumps penchant for not paying his legal advisors, has set a limit of 7 days for paying this judges fees, if he doesn't pay he will be found in contempt of court. So in short, Trumps plan to slow the process down has speeded it up and put him under real pressure.
steve bannon has got a four month jail sentence
it would be brilliant if Trump got the same...even better a few years, that **** should be held accountable for the five deaths that day

I read today that 70% of republicans think a strong economy is more important than a functioning democracy :no way:
The problem with democracy is it is anti-capitalist, it gives a normal citizen the chance to change stuff that would work against the pursuit of profit!!
It certainly looks like this orange monster may have been the trigger that introduced the USA the the slope leading to fascism. Democracy is always going to go pop if you are not willing to accept the results of elections. Trump spread that idea through republicans like the black death.
There's a difference between saying Russia helped fund campaigns and used bots and the other side saying the election was actually rigged like trump does
The rise of the far right in the USA is very scary to me. It's insane how many extreme lies these republican politicians can say and how easy their followers just swallow up or dont care enough to check. No questions asked, lets own the libs etc.
Democrats are keeping children in their basements to drink their blood Michigan Republican candidate recorded saying Democrats drink the blood of children and ‘sell baby body parts’ (msn.com)
what in gods name is happening with right wingers around the world, they are just plain mentally deranged lying freaks...... and they fool a helluva lot of right wing voters, trucking weirdos the lot of them
Ok, but to me this is not quite the point I was making. For the Brexit referendum, I accept that more people voted Leave than Remain. What I do not accept is that it was a fair referendum because one side told outright lies without any sanction, and that same side used illegal activities (including illegal funding from Russia) to unfairly sway public opinion.
So no, I don't accept the Brexit referendum result as valid and I never will.
YThere’s sure to be a few in here.

During her speech, Greene also commented on the conflict in Ukraine and promised that Republicans will not send money to the country if they retake Congress in the mid-term elections.
"Under Republicans, not another penny will go to Ukraine," Greene told rally-goers. "Our country comes first."
what a repugnant horror she truly is, Trump has started something that i think there's no way back from, big orange pumpkin
Clips?
I'm too tired after tonight but after all the discussions on here about tories/corbyn/snp/labour/brexit etc etc we surely recognise by now that "clips" can be used to skew perspectives very easily?
I'm sure I've said previously that I worked on the technical side of tv reporting and was often amazed at how easily it was for producers and reporters to portray a completely different meaning to what was intended by the person being quoted by selective quotes..... if I hadn't been there in the flesh I'd have had a completely different viewpoint on what was said.
I posted the Republican article in response to post 4657 by Keith_M who said he was unaware of Clinton questioning the 2016 election result.
One example , quote from Clinton in interview with the Washington Post , “ Trump is an illegitimate president and he stole the 2016 election “.
Please explain the selective editing. Are you trying to claim Clinton has never questioned the 2016 election?
There was a huge difference though.
Clinton didn't try to get Governors to overturn legitimate results.
She didn't take spurious law suits to 66 supposedly sympathetic judges hoping that they'd support him.
She didn't encourage attacks on Congress.
There's little doubt that Russian interference helped Trump win so her complaints had merit.
There is literally no evidence to back up Trump's claims.
Is the next election looking like being Biden v Trump again, or are there any other names being seriously mentioned on either side yet?
My question was genuine, mate (not that you've claimed otherwise :greengrin ). Anyway, thanks for the reply. :aok:
I also agree that we have to be careful about dismissing 'news' because we don't like the source.
My feeling is that, while what you've said about both sides in the US having a habit of dismissing election results (with or without good reason) appears to be the case, what Trump and the Republicans did the last time was on a whole new level.
Biden clear favourite, Harris quite a bit behind. Same with trump and DeSantis a bit behind. Republicans 8/11 to win the next election unfortunately. Parties in charge during this cost of living crisis look sitting ducks in next election, UK, US, Germany ect
I haven't suggested dismissing the articles. In fact the complete opposite: treat everything you read carefully and try to understand the agenda of the person writing or publishing the article, and don't ascribe accuracy based on the source. And with regard to quotes, take care as quotes can be taken out of context.
Just be cautious, is my advice.
Looking better than expected so far. Dems might actually hold the senate. Most trump supporters doing really poor. Biden will lose less seats than both Obama and trump at mid terms
Story of the night for me is Ron DeSantis in Florida. He will be Trumps main rival for the Republican nomination and if he was to get it then he would romp home all the way to the White House.
Would be a poignant reminder the systemic problems haven't gone away.
Democrats had control of all three seats of government and did nothing. Roe v Wade was overturned and they did nothing. They are complicit in allowing someone like Trump to take power and maybe this will wake people up to the fact that if your party's just a front for the rich to siphon away left votes then people won't vote for you unconditionally. Even when the alternative is Trump.
You've got to applaud the election of Alabama's new State Treasurer though:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FhGHnmFW...pg&name=medium
Lauren Boebert looking like she may well lose is pleasing. She was strong in the polls but currently trailing her Democratic rival and it's too close to call.
She has been spouting Trump rhetoric all over Colorado and has strong appeal in the rural Republican heartlands. The big urban areas always go Democrat so it looks like the suburban swing voters have turned away from her and by extension the orange fool.
DeSantis has actually trod a middle ground on abortion, he favours a ban on 15 weeks and exemptions for abuse, clearly because he's been advised that the full fat reversal of Roe v wade a net vote loser as a policy. The religious extremism you see in Alabama, Georgia and across the MidWest is less of an issue in Florida, than in other Red States.
I have always thought Trump was just a common thief and grifter, he has that air about him, I wouldn't leave him in a room with anything expensive as you'd likely be searching for it after he had left. It seems that there is a bit of old fashioned larceny entailed in his tenure as the 45th president of the USA!! Investigators are now looking for items that are missing from his time in the White House. There is a US federal law that states any gift the president receives and is worth more than $415 then it has to be handed over to the National Archive to store, if the president wants to keep the item then he has to pay the cost of it otherwise it goes to the NA. It seems a number of gifts the Trumpster received while president have gone missing, these include a pair of diamond earrings, a ceremonial gold medal from a Saudi prince and an expensive set of golf clubs.
I know this is unimportant news just now with the midterms happening and by the look of it the GOP winning back the house but it really reflects what sort of character the 45th president was/is.
