Agree there was also a very good interview with Gareth Evans. They need to prove they are better.

Heard yesterday reason for Laddie Laidlaw is not signing new deal is due to a fall out with Gaffer.
I'd be surprised if LJ even speaks to these highly talented lads, he isn't interested in integrating them in to the first team squad despite some mediocre performances from many in the first team. Laidlaw is hot property and should already be signed up but I'll bet the only contact he's had from anyone about a contract is the bog standard letter they all get offering him an extra £100 a week. Shambolic because this lad is class, seen him about 20 times this season and he gets the better of everyone he plays against at 18s, 19s and Development.
If they were good enough and most importantly ready to play they would. Do people honestly think O'connor doesn't get brought of the bench ahead of others out of spite. The coaching team see the under 18s when they train against men at East mains, it's a world away from playing against skinny 18yo defenders in the youth league.
What they need is a loan in league one. But it looks as though they won't sign the contract that Megwa ect were happy to sign. I wouldn’t start altering youth contracts as each player is a risk
I'm not saying Laidlaw is ready, he's only just turned 18 and needs to see a pathway, he can't see that at the moment but he can see Hoppe and McKirdy running around like headless chickens on a Saturday. He's too good to be playing 18s and scores loads at reserve level. There will be dozens of teams looking at him, he will almost certainly say....stuff thus I'm away.
Well good luck to him it's his choice and career. We mustn't break our youth wage structure. Porto, Doig, Campbell were happy to sign on a what would be a similar contract and half of the 18s too. If they are good enough there is a pathway at Hibs.
We can't compete with English teams who can pay high wages to youths that they know might not make it. So far there have been no players that got away. It will eventually happen but so far so correct
id also heard he has a bit of an attitude which was tolerated at u18 because he’s a good player but I am going on something I heard from a 3rd party so wouldn’t put my house in itQuote:

There’s a lot of surmising going on in your post. I would imagine Johnson is available to any player who wants to speak to him. However, the 18’s will have the very experienced Steve Kean and Gareth Evans to discuss career and development.
I would bet they also offered Laidlaw the standard contract, it’s been repeated on this thread numerous times that that’s what Hibs do. It’s an established process and why should it change for anyone ( maybe if we had a young Rooney on our hands and in the first team) ?
I’ve only seen Laidlaw play twice, in the European ties. He looked pretty decent, but perhaps not fully fit v Dortmund ( he ran out of steam after 60 minutes). He’s clearly got something, but he’s deluding himself if he think his career is best served away from Hibs.
Ross County, Motherwell (x2), Rangers, Aberdeen & Dundee Utd have all gave game time to 16 year olds this season. Killmarnock, St Mirren & Celtc have all gave game time to 17 year olds. Killmarnock (x3), Motherwell, Hearts, St Mirren (x2), Rangers (x2), Aberdeen & Dundee United have all gave time to 18 year olds.
We have gave game time to Macintyre (13 minutes) and O’Connor (25 minutes) this season.
Are the 16/17/18 year olds at other clubs better than the players they are getting time ahead of? Or is it harder to get a pathway into the first team at Hibs than it is at essentially all other clubs in our league? Despite us having a more successful U19 team.
It is also possible that the U19s aren’t actually as good as they appear, they have had success but possibly because the other youth teams have already promoted their talents. Much like we were bottom of the youth league when the golden generation came through, despite having the best youth team in the country by a considerable distance, because they were all in the first team.
I would accept that LJ may not be speaking directly to under 18 players on a daily or regular basis. That’s the job of the guys employed to manage and coach players at that level and Hibs first team management are probably no different from any other team in that respect.
I very much imagine that LJ is keen on players breaking through to the first team, if they are good enough why wouldn’t he be?
Because few youngsters are first team ready from the get go. They need integrated and the short term pain persisted with. Unless that’s the managers remit there’s little incentive for a manager to take the short term hit when the benefits of doing so will likely not be realised until under the next manager.
They almost always prove themselves on loan against adults first. About 3 or 4 lads have signed a new contract in the 18s recently and have went out on loan. I'm sure if Laidlaw signed he'd be loaned out, if he banged them in against adults it would be in the first team next.
People were saying it was a mistake to let Connor Young go to rangers, he has went on loan to east Fife and has played a handful of minutes in his 6 games. The step up to adult football is massive
Young went on loan at a odd time in the season, into a team that’s established and he won’t be with next season. That could well affect how the manager will use him.
As for the step up to mens football being massive, maybe different is more appropriate. Loads of boys from other PL teams on loan to teams and getting variable amount of time. Loads of boys who would still be eligible playing u20 playing in tier 5 & 6 for their ‘adult’ club
Youngs done poorly in the lowland league and has been told he can leave at the end of the season. The step up is massive at the top hence 95% of spl youngsters won't make it in spl.
Going on loan to a lower league club should be the next step for Laidlaw and O'connor, if the did well there then after that it's seeing if they can go a step up to spl. I hope they don't expect to skip a stage and go straight to prem football, but with Gary advising his lad I'm doubtful
Agreed, next season they should be looking at league 1 at least, on loan from the start of the season too. I’m not too familiar with how we train, if the first team squad, dev team and u18s all train separately or if there’s some overlap.
No a fan of the b team set up (recognise that’s not us) you may be playing in an adult league but you are just playing in an age group team, youngsters need to get exposure to dealing with experienced players so they can get used to taking it and dishing it out when appropriate.
lmo a proper res league is the way forward. I went to a match at the start of the season at HTC and out team included McGregor and Stevenson, some guys just up from u18 and a few new signings, getting experience from different boys with different backgrounds doesn’t happen the same in a b team
Hibs U18s lost 3-1 to Rangers U18s in Glasgow this afternoon in the CAS Elite U18 League; Ethan Laidlaw on target for Hibs who played the final 20 mins with ten men after Jacob MacIntyre was sent off for two bookings.
Not sure how many minutes he got for the devs the other day but not starting and coming on for the final 20 minutes could mean he could be involved Sunday, unless I'm thinking to much into it.
Could just be a case of don't want to overburn him with two games in a week which hopefully turns into a final 20 minutes cameo Sunday 😀
Hibs development team play Newcastle United under 23 team on Easter Monday.
