Super League starts tonight with the Hull derby
I recorded it so watching now. Hull are getting a doing after 20 mins and lucky it's only 0-8.
Sky are showing a few NRL warm up games (season starts early March) and the annual Maori v Indigieous clash is 7am Friday morning.
Watched the Hull derby on Thursday, went to the Leigh game last night and flicked between Cas/Wigan and Catalans/Warrington tonight. The new rule interpretations haven’t been quite as disastrous as I first expected but the 13 cards shown in one round of fixtures compared to 83 in the whole of last season is going to become troublesome by round three or four!
Hull KR beat Leeds 22-12 in a tight, scrappy game on a heavy pitch.
2 more sin bins for head contact to add to the total.
Looking forward to Wigan v Penrith on Saturday night.
WTF is going on this season? Hull get another red card for absolutely nothing untoward whatsoever.
Ridiculous and it's going to ruin watching the games this season.
Jon Wilkin going crackers at HT about it and rightly so.
Didnt see tonight's match but I thought the second yellow card last night was a bit dubious, and they seemed desperate to get the first yellow upgraded to red and seemed to think that may yet happen. I'm kind of hoping that it will settle down after a few weeks , Refs tend to clamp down early in the season . Are the officials for the world club challenge English or Australian?
The red card was a shocker. It's an accidental, small scale bump of heads in a tackle. Nothing in it at all, yet they seemed it a red. The game is screwed if they don't amend this new rule.
No idea who is in charge tonight but I hope they don't play to super league rules.
Problem you have is there was only one insurance company willing to cover the game and they wanted the head protected as part of it.
Also you have a load of ex players trying to say ruined their lifes and go through court for compensation as reckon didn't know the risks.
Finny enough I go to championship and league 1 games and not noticed any difference really so super league seems to be one unable to play to these new rules.
First Blood to the pie eaters Wigan 4-0 Penrith
Wigan 4- 6 Panthers
Wigan 10-6 Penrith
Wigan 10- 12 Penrith. HT
Penrith should be well clear. Caught on the last tackle far too often.
That's not a try. These super league refs are having a 'mare this season.
Warriors 16 -12 Panthers
Panthers having a real mare
Another terrible decision from the ref going in favour of Wigan. Penrith should be out of sight but have been so poor in attack.
Been a couple dodgy calls tonight
Wigan 16-12 Penrith FT
Ref from Wigan what do you expect.
Tbf he wasn’t the only making the call for the video ref. I went to the game last night and everyone around me was amazed that Wardle’s try was given when it seemed pretty clear that he was short of the line. Thought Wigan deserved it overall though.
Salford v Castleford turned in to a decent game this afternoon and the refereeing decisions didn’t seem quite as front and centre as some of the other games.
On the insurance issue, find out who was insuring the game last night and sign them up!
after 41 straight home wins for St Helens against Salford going back 44 years Salford finally win against a 12-man St Helens side 24-20
Leeds Rhinos come back from 16-0 down at Leigh to win 22-16
I turned over to the Saints game after that shocking Leeds first half so good to read that Leeds bounced back.
Salford almost made a mess of it but 3!late tries got them.over the line. Frantic but enjoyable watch - and a deserved red card for Percival.
Rhinos v a St Helens side tonight that will still be smarting from that defeat against Salford
a rehearsal for next weeks Challenge Cup tie
Good contest so far
Rhinos littered with individual errors now, kicking out from the restart is ridiculous
they will get hammered now
and all from that ridiculous restart st helens go up and get another try 60 mins played 8-18 game over, Rhinos are spent but to be honest they've been spent from around 25 mins
nice seeing Meslier & Rutter watching on, Wayne Rooney a big fan of Rhinos as well
I thought Leeds were well in the game but had a few brain farts where they just threw it away. Still had chances to get back into it but too many errors cost them. Good game to watch.
challenge cup this weekend but i was looking at the league table and see Castleford are pointless at the bottom along with Broncos, my first thought was what Cas need is a derby with Rhinos as they fixtures are normally cup finals for Cas sides/fans, then i looked at next weekends fixtures and wasn't too surprised to see it's Castleford v Leeds :hilarious
Cas have been dreadful when I’ve seen them so far this season.
Going to the Leigh v Featherstone game tomorrow while it’s international weekend.
Proper old style pitch at Cas tonight
Castleford 0 - 0 Leeds. Half time
HT not very often we see a pointless half
good 2nd try for Rhinos 0-12
big mistake castleford 0-14
and another mistake 0-20
6-20
6-26
FT
great Ryan Hall returning to Rhinos next season before retiring at the end of the following season before taking up a role in the commercial department
NRL.magic weekend with all the games in Brisbane over 3 days. Manly v Brisbane was a great game yesterday and both games today have been excellent.
Cronulla 32 Sydney Roosters 30 with 5 to go.
Didn’t catch any of the Wigan v Hull KR semi as I was at Wembley but sounded a bit of a cake walk?
Brilliant win for the NZ Warriors over Penrith early this morning.
It was on the cards, but how sad.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-le...s/c2qqwvwzp5zo
Aah that's awful news.
41, a ****ing sin.
Genuinely upset to see he’s passed away
Rest easy pal
The Sky sports tribute was fantastic what a player particularly for someone his physical size so skilful and brave and what a person. What s horrible disease mnd genuinely is. RIP Rob.
terribly sad to hear he had passed away, a terrific player as well
Nonsense start to the challenge cup final.
2 mins gone and both teams have a man in the bin for supposed high shots. Terrible decisions and the referees have made an arse of this.
Don’t see anyone coming close to Wigan for the League Leaders Shield or the Grand Final tbh
what on earth has happened to Rhinos, yet another dreadful display against another awful side in Hull, Hull's first win in 12 with the only other win coming against basement boys London Broncos
20 mins after game finished and no one has came out of the dressing room but the CEO has went IN
they've regressed so much for each of the last three or four seasons
Rob Burrows parents watching on
Leeds were awful. Leigh were fantastic in France. All is well in the world.
(Would have been in Perpignan, but flying to Cyprus in the morning. Tough work but someone’s got to do it)
Rhinos and rohan smith part company, i'm not too sure much will change with the present squad of players.
I doubt there was a dry eye in the house in Leeds tonight. Very emotional stuff.
And a Leeds win!
New South Wales 38 - 18 Queensland , State of Origin game 2 ,A much improved performance from the Blues , (after the shambles of game one that wasn't hard to do ) , one a piece now as they head to the decider on July 17 in Brisbane. It's always nice to see a team in Maroon getting stuffed
Biggest HT margin in an origin game.
Should be a cracker in game 3.
Warrington 30 Rhinos 18, 5 mins remaining Leeds score a try and reece martin clearly converts, Linesman keeps the flag down, commentator/co already claiming that it did go between the posts and replays show it clearly was good, i actually thought the conversion for the rhinos try before that was also good, i can't remember any rugby game where they got it wrong at a conversion
didn't make any difference to the outcome right enough but still
interestingly after a quick sketch at a rhinos forum i see a couple thought, like i did, that the conversion for the leeds try before that also went between the sticks, wonder if that will be brought up
NSW claim the state of origin series 2-1 , not the greatest of games this morning but it's nice to see a team in Maroon lose .In other news it sad to here about the passing of David " Thirsty" Morrrow
What should be a good game between Saints and Warrington most likely ruined by a soft red card for Warrington.
Well done to Warrington - made of stern stuff under Burgess. Saints struggling big time with injuries.
Not got round to watching Origin yet but looking forward to it
Caught the second half of the Leigh v London game tonight, comfortable Leigh win as expected
Off to North Wales Crusaders v Hunslet Hawks on Sunday
The video Ref's certainly been kept busy tonight , Giants 6-6 Rhinos 31 minutes gone
watched 17 replays and i still think Lisone is a tad fortunate to still be on the pitch
Huddersfield are pretty poor
Giants 6 - 34 Rhinos. FT
an hour played and Wigan getting a bit of a Doin at home to Warrington 4-28, Leigh doing the same to St Helens 24-4
make that 4-34 Warrington 67 mins almost the full length of the pitch, 30-4 Leigh, think the boy said five defeats on the trot for St Helens, first time in 38 years...or sommit like that
I know Saints have been hammered with injuries but you have to wonder if Wellens is on thin ice. Leigh are sticking it to them.
freakin twice Lisone of Rhinos has knocked on, wtf are Leeds getting some of they players from, their recruitment is bloody awful, and lord knows what they're going to do for a kicker when Rhyse Martin leaves at the end of the season. still leading 16-12 at Salford
pfftt make that 18-16 Salford, hopefully not another capitulation on the cards
Rhyse martin should be in the bin for a 2nd time, idiotic high tackle in front of the sticks 20-16
erse Bentley does go in the Bin though for yet another idiotic high tackle, just so brainless 22-16
Was such a good Leigh performance that night. And despite the scoreline, a really well contested game. Most enjoyable 80 minutes for years.
Thursday night at Cas was a little more attritional, but dare I dream of winning at Wigan on Tuesday for the first time in my lifetime?
i doubt anyone saw this one coming Leeds Rhinos 24 Wigan 0 after 64 mins
FT 30-4
Good win for Leeds tonight, keeps them in the mix for a top 6 place.
Enjoyed the Leigh game last night. In the play off spots now, if only temporarily. But there’s a chance….
Rhyse Martin confirmed to HKR next season, Rhinos will badly miss his kicking
just like at Headingly Rhinos once again need a Golden Point win to beat the worst side in the league, London Broncos
ooft
Rhinos 68 Hull FC 6
quite bizarre Rhyse Martin could have equalled some record(missed what the record was for) in his last home game for Rhinos with a con in front of goals but he gave it instead to Donaldson to kick, need to find out why he did that :hmmm:
over 14,000 there, League needs a good strong Rhinos side challenging at the top
Hull KR blew a big lead at Wigan to lose 24-20, Wigan can clinch the Leaders shield next week v Rhinos
18/1 for Leigh to win the Grand Final. Three weeks ago we were debating whether we’d get in the play offs, now I’m convinced we’re winning the thing!
just 7 mins played and Rhinos beat already 10-0, i can't watch any more of this one
NRL playoffs this weekend. Brilliant game this morning between Canterbury and Manly with the latter coming back to win 22-24.
They will play Sydney Roosters with the other game between North Queensland and Cronulla.
The usual suspects (Penrith and Melbourne) await the winners of those games
Seen very little of the NRL this year, I really need to start working from home again on a Thursday & Friday!
Wigan 1/500 to win tonight v Salford who have a young team out and 8 debutants.
Salford have earned the right to pick who they want, I suppose. Wigan well on for 60 points, but they’re capable of doing that against full strength teams sometimes.
Roosters v Manly. 3 plays gone, 2 Manly players lost to HIA's after 23 seconds 😳
Warrington beat Saints in golden point time to book a visit to Hull KR in the semi's.
Wigan v Leigh in the other one.
Bolton v Shrewsbury at 3 and then a taxi across to the Leigh game at half 5. Has the makings of a classic day, I hope!
Hull KR 10 Warrington 8
Bit of a defensive grind from Hull but job done. Warrington were a bit clueless in trying to break them down.
Wigan v Leigh next to decide the final line up
Great game last night, shame the video referee decision is the main talking point. And me having backed Warrington at 10/1 at half time thinking I was in!
Not half nervous about the Leigh game tonight. We’re going to the Bolton v Shrewsbury game first then dashing across. Going to be some atmosphere with 20k+
after 43 mins Wigan 24 Leigh 0, i think Wigan will beat HKR next week
Penrith beat Melbourne 14-6 to win the NRL title for the 4th year on the trot.
Some achievement to do that but with 3 of their star players heading elsewhere next season, this might be the end of their dominance.
Wigan win the Grand Final. One moment of brilliance from Bevan French did the trick.
You dont see many 9-2 in League anymore!
Not the final I was hoping for really but a good day out all the same.
Feels like I’ve been saying it for most of the season, but Wigan didn’t get out of second gear, and didn’t really need to either.
