That would be the best news of the close season so far

The appointment of Tam Courts as Dundee United manager is an interesting one.
Whether he succeeds or not is of no real interest to me,but it makes a refreshing change for a club to give a younger coach a chance rather than going with the usual tired, tried and tested ones (I won’t bother listing who I’m referring to,you all know who they are).
Have Dun Utd put a Director of Football in place? A bit odd to throw the young guy in on this if he doesnt have coverage from above.
A part of me hopes he's a success (as long as it isn't to the detriment of Hibs obviously). Like you say it's a change from the norm. Have a feeling it won't go well though. I think players need someone who can instantly command a bit of respect. 5 games for Livi in the first division and managing Kelty won't get that. Could be completely wrong mind you.
Am I the only one who's never heard of Tam Courts before.
I hadn't thought of GM as that to be honest, I thought of him more as recruitment. Sort of identifying targets etc.
I had always though a Director of Football role would be higher than manager / coach.
Maybe just my interpretation of the role.
Agree that GM is doing well.
I get the manager replacing football staff for his own guys but not the kit man. No sporting advantage to be had there.
Tam was part of the furniture. The manager, players and football staff changed over the years but Tam stayed as a constant and I liked that.
He was basically one of us living the dream doing his thing alongside the football folk.
It's mad but I miss seeing the guy at the side of the pitch just being part of things.
Every club needs people with a connection to it and Tam was definitely, as you say, living the dream. He was at Hibs in one capacity or another for 30 years and always came across a nice guy. There were posts about Tam and his wife's role at the club back when people were being furloughed. Retired, voluntarily or otherwise, he is a good Hibs man.
Probably, i would imagine Hibs then rolled the 2 jobs into 1, wrote a new job spec and brought the new guy in months later.
I am wary of opening this discussion up again given Tam is an ordinary guy so shouldn't have his business raked up in public.
Needless to say I hope the club looked after him.
Overly good wages? What's that based on? Tam went above and beyond the call of duty on countless occasions over the years and both he and Joyce had a great relationship with the playing staff.
The way it all ended was not befitting the years of service he gave the club.
Tam had a great job living the dream for many years. Unfortunately those things tend to come to an end at some point.
I know their relationship with the club and staff, my mate is very close to both of them and their pay was, shall we say very very good for the job they both did. Nothing wrong with that if the club wants to give wages that good, good luck to them tbh but obviously the club decided to lose both and employ someone on a lower wage, unfortunately that happens.
Was speaking to a pal of Yogi's who was saying that Yogi couldn't work to Roy McGregor the Ross Co Chairman any more as he was a complete bampot. That's coming from Yogi as well :greengrin
Paulo Fonseca next Spurs manager apparently.
Celtic appoint Postecoglou as Manager on a 12 month rolling contract

That’s a poor appointment on paper imo.
He’s the kind of guy I’d expect us to be looking at. When your aim is to win the league and get into the champions league groups I’d be expecting a higher calibre than that.
Another title for rangers next year!
Rangers will be quaking in their shoes. Doldrums years for Celtic.
I’ve actually watched a decent amount of games since working from home. BillyHibs on here adds to the thread quite often when they’re on.
As someone else said, throw in the fact Maclaren has about a goal a game over there over numerous seasons and it’s really a poor standard.
12 month rolling contract highlighting that Celtc know this is a gamble.
Could be great - I don't know much about him in truth - but could easily see Celtc fall further behind.
I think they put all their eggs in one basket with Howe and ended up with this guy. A young, highly rated British manager who has managed at the top level in Howe to a 55 year old Australian who has only ever managed in his homeland and Japan.. Seems a strange appointment. Plenty singing his praises but that part of the world to Glasgow is very different. At least Gerrard had a bit of an aura about him from his playing career. I'm not convinced it will go well.
Quote:
"I know Celtic is a true way of life for so many people and I know the demands which come with this position," said Postecoglou.
When I was growing up I had Kenny Dalglish posters all over my wall.
Another lifelong "Celtic minded" manager from the other side of the globe, who would have guessed..:greengrin
Apparently when being interviewed for the celtic job the board misheard him when they asked him where he was from. " Athens" he said "I'm Athenian". Gave him the job on the spot!
Stolen from Twitter
Celtic regularly use the rolling contract, pretty sure Lennon's first stint was on that contract.
Derek Mcinnes possibly getting the West Brom job.
According to some journalist on Twitter anyway, sorry, forgot the guys name and can’t be bothered looking again now.
support your local team 😂Quote:

Benitez to Everton?
#rafaout has already started and he’s not even got the job. And I thought Hibs supporters could be impatient!
Gatusso to Spurs. 😂

Perfect for Spurs.
Crazy from Spurs. Seemed to have really done over this Fonseca guy who was set to be appointed. The new DOF certainly involved in all this.
Sacked Mourinho a few days before a cup final. Wanted Nagelsmann but Bayern stepped in and took him. Then moved their intentions to the likes of Rodgers and ten Hag. Once they weren’t interested they tried to get Poch back, PSG were having none of it so went in for Conte who they couldn’t agree terms with. New DOF then appointed and they have a verbal agreement to bring in Fonseca, now Gattuso has left Fiorentina they have told Fonseca they don’t want him and are going for Gattuso. Apparently the DOF wanted Gattuso before he left Juventus.
Quite the episode.
Kane a certainty to move now, possibly a few more.
There was a huge backlash from Spurs fans on Social Media yesterday after the Gattuso reports grew. Reports this morning that Spurs have now decided against hiring him.
Gattuso is a nasty piece of work regardless of his managerial talents.
Spurs problems begin and end with Levy. He has to be got rid of somehow and they can progress.
He got them a brand new stadium and the pandemic has really affected them because of a loss of all that revenue. They were very close to winning the PL between 15/16 and 16/17, then moved from WHL where they were unbeaten in their last season to play at Wembley for a season and a half or so. If they had stayed at WHL and invested in the squad instead of building the new stadium around that period I think they would have won something.
I think that a lot of their supporters are upset and angry because of the lack of success and how Levy promised the new stadium to help them compete with the bigger clubs, only to see them decline and continue to spend a lack of money compared to their rivals. The new stadium and the pandemic has set them back quite a bit I think.
He’s also in a difficult position of either selling Kane to help rebuild the team or facing a massive backlash from supporters for selling him at a time where he is already facing criticism for the Super League fiasco amongst other things.
Bournemouth don’t look like they are going to renew Jonathan Woodgates short term contract in at the end of June.
They are showing an interest in Scott Parker, but don’t like the compensation Fulham would be looking for.
Anybody got Eddie Howe’s contact number ?
Spurs and Gatusso talks are off. Now onto Klinsmann apparently …
