Lefty is a great example, never thought I would use Adam Sandler and Pacino in the same sentence but that's the vibe I was getting when watching it. Uncut gems caught me off guard as I was not expecting much.

Watched Trainspotting again last week, what a film that is. One of my favourites, the soundtrack is incredible.
It was Jobs on Friday night, about Steve Jobs. Good enough movie, good cast and didn’t paint him as a saint.
Civil War - excellent film. After what happened after the last US election you could of wonder at the possibilities
Watched The Fabelmans yesterday while travelling. Given the subject matter I’m gutted now I didn’t see it on the big screen when it came out . A slightly fictionalised account of Spielbergs own childhood at times it’s uncomfortable to watch but never less than compelling. Well worth investing a couple of hours in.
Went to see a quiet place day one this morning since I’m off work, wasn’t terrible but much preferred the original 2 films
Finally managed to sit long enough to watch Oppenheimer, well worth all the hype I really enjoyed it didn’t even feel like 3hrs really well told story
Enjoyed Axel F today, big fan of Beverly hills cop and was worried about this being really bad but I liked it had a nice bit nostalgia for a fan with a decent enough story it’s not a patch on the first 2 of course but enjoyable enough
Went to see Alien-Romulus tonight. Really excellent, damn scary and just a wee bit ****ed up.
I remember when parental guidance certificates actually meant something. There is no way that should be a 15
Anyone watched Late Night With The Devil?
Been meaning to for a while but not got round to it.
Watching Get Carter today think it was on at the weekend. Still an amazing movie.
Watched Trap over the weekend Josh hartnett ‘thriller’ I thought it was absolutely brutal but my mrs and bro in law loved it they seem to be fans of the director M. Night Shyamalan, I’ve no idea who it’s is but either I didn’t get it or it was a terrible film with brutal acting
You don't know who m night shymalan is?
He's the director of the 6th sense, the village and is generally famous for 'twist' endings.
Two films I'll sit and watch whenever they're on tv no matter how many times I've seen them before. The Descendants with George Clooney and Jojo Rabbit. Both absolutely brilliant!
I don’t no, I’ve seen the 6th sense enjoyed that great film, the village I’ve also seen wasn’t much of a fan but wasn’t terrible, to be honest I don’t really pay much attention to directors or that, sometimes I think it’s actually clouding judgement on the actual film, like in this case I believe this film was awful but my mrs and bro in law are unwilling to knock it due to them enjoying the guys previous films, that’s all well n good but every director has a howler in them I’m sure.
If you watch it and you think differently maybe you can come back and let me know what I’ve missed it almost feels like a spoof without much comedy behind it and advertised as a crime thriller
Not a film review as such, but went to the National Theatre cinema screening of Prima Facie last night. An absolute acting masterclass from Jodie Comer.
Seen the new beetlejuice last weekend… it was alright, wasn’t blown away. Saw every twist coming, not as good as the original. Even beetlejuice seemed subdued
I saw The Day After Tomorrow for the first time last night on the tv. Hilariously bad to the point where i thoroughly enjoyed it. The dialogue was cheesy, stoyline complete nonsense, overblown pap, id kind of forgotten films like this got made 20 years ago.
Watched Deadpool v Wolverine last night, now I really liked the 1st two but this was a dragged out load of pish, 2 hrs of absolute nonsense.
Been mentioned before but quite a good wee independent film that won a few awards on BBCiPlayer called Aftersun well worth a watch
Tells the story of a young girl’s holiday with her Dad who suffers from mental health issues set in Turkey 20 years ago
Only downside is she spends most of the film wearing a yam top a good wee actor though
Loved aftersun kind of film you think about for days. Paul Mescal seems to be in everything just now, he was great in all of us strangers last year and is starring in gladiator 2 this year
Watched Jodie Comer in Prima Facie last night, National Theatre live at the Dominion. There are no words that can do justice to how much talent she has. Incredible. One of those performances that stays with you.
Watched Wolfs last night with Pitt and Clooney.
Reviews aren’t good but thought it was a an enjoyable watch.
Anybody seen Outrun yet? Read the book and really want to see the film. Might not be the most comfortable viewing.
BBC have definitely hit on something with Ludwig. Detective show/supersleuth and comedy arent genres that sit comfortably together but David Mitchell pulls it off. First 2 episodes are excellent.
Hmmm thought it was entertaining but unlikely and unbelievable
Knew nothing about police systems and procedures didn’t know any of his colleagues couldn’t drive but managed to solve a murder in 30 seconds
The Mrs enjoyed it and will probably watch Episode 2
A hit

Salem's Lot remake out next week. My favourite book of all time. I can only be disappointed 😂
The Substance.
The Venn diagram of “movies with lots of boobs” and “movies that I hate” is no longer two separate circles.
Just watched the Birds again (as it was in UHD).
My god the folk in it make some stupid decisions. We're safe in this school building so I'll now get all the kids to run down the street screaming instead.
Still can't get my head round Mitch having a mum who looks a few years older and a sister about 30 years younger.
Threads on BBC 4 tonight.
Spent the first half hour trying to figure out what country they were in ? 😂
Hidden gem
The new Beetlejuice is poor. It doesn't have enough of the main character in it and when he is in it he's definitely more constrained than the original.
So much potential having the most of the cast back but just not delivered. Keep enjoying the original instead.
Watched Speak No Evil with James McAvoy. Thought it was excellent for about 90% of the film, then the usual Hollywood ridiculous ending. A missed opportunity I felt.
Watched Threads for the first time last night, traumatised is probably the word. Absolutely haunting.

Watched Civil War last night.
Mrs Jones gave a 5/10, I gave it a 6/10.
It could have done with a lot more explaining on the war and the reasons behind it. Without that it all felt slightly pointless. There was too little details and it was a short film, only 90 minutes. They could have added so much more to it with a bit more detail.
Watched the original Beetlejuice again last night.
Still love it, but then I love all of Tim Burton's work. :greengrin
Went to see Heretic today. Really good film, Hugh Grant was excellently sinister from about 5 minutes into his performance. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East are also brilliant as the two sisters of the Church of Latter-day Saints in this claustrophobic thriller. Nice story that leads to a bit of an obvious conclusion in its theological musings but the plot is edge of the seat stuff. Graphic in gore in small manageable pieces, not too many jump scares but the directors/writers (Scott Beck & Bryan Woods creators of The Quiet Place) manage to keep the tension high throughout. Would recommend seeing it on the big screen just for the weird aspect close ups of HGs low key psychopathic face and to take in the excellent well designed set/s. Perfect length too at 1h 50m.
Watching the joker …. Not getting it at all, first one was brilliant as well disappointing this is how they’ve followed it up
Went to see the new Clint Eastwood movie, Juror#2, it was fine, nothing special, but its clearly massively influenced by 12 angry men, a movie we’ve discussed on this thread before. Clint even lifted some of the dialogue :greengrin
Very much enjoyed Gladiator 2 last night, exactly what youd expect, a solid crowdpleaser. Keep an eye out for Matt Lucas in what had to be the best bit of casting ever. Also, it’s uncanny how much Pedro Pascal is morphing into Burt Reynolds. They are basically the same person.
We went to see it last night as well, really enjoyed it, Burt Reynolds spot is bang on as well 😂 love Pedro one of those famous fowk you’d love to have a pint with even thought you know absolutely nothing about them
I wanted to goto dominion we’ve never been before but it was sold out, couldn’t get seats together at the omni so ended up at the odeon, first time being there since I was a kid, tell you what that was an awful place seats to small and uncomfortable felt absolutely soulless too won’t be in a hurry back to that place
The Outrun Saoirse Ronan a quirky wee movie about a recovering Alcoholic returning to Orkney from London to fight her demons another brilliant performance from the Ladybird actress worth a watch but wait until it is widely available on streaming platforms save your money for Gladiator 2
The Joker dearie me soo disappointing after the magnificent first attempt a wasted opportunity and money I love Hollywood musicals but this was not the time or the place
I thought Deadpool and Wolverine was awful. Just a crap film thrown together with a poor story, just to get the 2 characters together.
Wicked is amazing :greengrin
Decided to watch the latest Joker film, turned it off after about 30 minutes, it’s not a musical but it is a musical. :greengrin
Tried to watch Megalopolis. Lasted 15 minutes before turning it off. Self indulgent, incoherent, nonsense!
If you want a decent Christmas movie to watch with all the family you won't go far wrong with "That Christmas", it's an animation starring Brian Cox as Santa. It has everything you want in a Christmas film, good fun, jokes, a wee pull on the heart strings, a smidgin of peril and of course a happy ending. Available on Netflix UK
Went to see wicked. Decent film but around 1 hour too long.
I was channel hoping last night trying to find something to watch when I spotted Commando was on Film4 . It's completely ridiculous and over the top but it's great fun
Rocky balboa is on itv 4.
Of the 6 rocky films it's top 5. But the training montage and the fight are awesome. The fact it was filmed in from of a proper fight crowd that went mental for him is even better.
Have mentioned movie night at home a few times on this thread, last couple of choices have been Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, both of which I've seen but not for many years and I had completely forgotten just how good they are.
They really are terrific examples of cinema done superbly well.
I heard that Tarantino blew the whole music budget on Stuck in the Middle with You - which is why all the other songs on the soundtrack are relatively unknown. He just felt he had to have that song for that scene so was happy for everything else to be as cheap as possible.
Cracking soundtrack too.
Some great stuff online about the incredibly subtle Easter eggs in the film, alluding to who the rat is.
A Muppet Christmas Carol.
Michael Caine’s finest role and a genuinely great adaptation. What a film.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Just watching Zulu on BluRay
Surprised it wasn’t on this year
Quality
Watched Toy Story 3 for the first time in a long time.
The story, visuals, characters, the suspense at the end and the jokes are all spot on.
These Pixar films are all 100 times better than any critically acclaimed oscar winning movie imo.
Utter genius!
The Searchers
Never fails to hit the spot
Classic John Ford western
Watched Leon: The Professional for the first time in years last night, a terrific movie.
Really moving film by Steve McQueen; Blitz, now on Apple TV.
The Apartment (Billy Wider) was on terrestrial TV before Christmas circa midnight. Despite the fact it's easily accessible to stream and I own the DVD I find it impossible not to watch the whole film once I start. It'll doubtless have been mentioned on here before but it's one of the all time greatest movies.
Jaws!
It's on itv4 all the time and I sit and watch it all the time so naturally did the same last night. The scenes with Scheider, Shaw and Dreyfuss on the boat are outstanding and it's still bloody scary (the head!!)
Brilliant.
