What is the standard of Aussie football like?
Penalty award was a mystery
As a long term Oz fitba follower, I agree.
In fact I think technically, it’s of a higher standard than the SPFL, but as pointed out, is certainly slower.
Jamie Mac was/is a star here partly due to the absence of very close marking by defenders, which is certainly nothing near like what happens in Scotland.
Fitba changed in Oz in 2005 when the A League kicked off in place of the old NSL, and while there have been many benefits off the pitch, many of us from the older generation believe that the standard of player being produced is not like it was pre A League days.
Sound familiar?
And ex Bolton striker Adam Le Fondre Is scoring goals for Sydney.
If he said he’d like to play for Hibs, I wouldn’t so much as Drive him to the airport, as pilot his Jumbo Jet to Turnhouse!
Also, can see Boyler playing out here when his Easter Road career comes to an end.

Heading off soon to the Perth Glory v Sydney game. Rematch of last year's grand final that the bad guys won (boo!).
Revenge would be nice, but Glory haven't really clicked yet this season, so not feeling very confident. We seriously miss Jason Davidson at left wingback and, to a slightly lesser extent, Matt Spiranovic at centre half. They brought the ball forward out of defence really well and allowed us to build attacks from the back. The Castro/Ikonomidis/Fornarolli forward line should rip A league defences apart, but ball movement forward has been a bit too slow and deliberate so far. Hopefully all change tonight and we stick a few past one half of the Ozzy Ugly Sisters :greengrin
Gary Hooper plays for Wellington Phoenix. Been there a month. 2 games 1 goal.

VAR strikes again!
But to be fair, it’s probably the hand ball rule that needs a clear direction.
I thought he was turning away from the ball and moving his arm to a ‘natural’ position.
If he can stop a shot like that consistently, they will put him in goals next week!
Yep, unlike Sydney’s Adam Le Fondre who can tie up a defence on his own, and will probably end up top scorer in the league.
On an unrelated note, ex Socceroo coach Ange Postecoglou led his team Yokohama, to the championship in the J League.
He’s got a Greek name but is as Aussie as Skippy, and it’s good to see an Aussie coach doing well overseas.

I’ll ask someone who should know and report back.
I suspect it’s because of the very fluid/logistical circumstances with closed borders and games rearranged at short notice.
In any event think there is something like 34 games in 35 days so connoisseurs of Oz fitba are in for a feast!
Right, the reason is....’unclear’
Sydney Morning Herald describing it as such but suggesting it may be on cost grounds.....Aussie fitba is not exactly flushed with funds just now.
Same report says no decision has yet been made as to whether it will be reinstated for the finals.
Cheers Fred I knew I could rely on you
Looking forward to an Aussie feast of soccer
In the UK there are some that would like to pull it because it sucks dodgy decisions that take an eternity to arrive at all spontaneity and natural flow is being sucked from the game
The new hand ball rule needs to be looked at as well and common sense needs to be applied
All of the above is of course imho 😃
Perth 1-0:up against the Mariners at Sauce Bottle Stadium.
Diego Castro, one of Perth’s best players isn’t playing because he didn’t think it was safe to start again and has gone Bush with his family!
