Pet Peeves IV

The Sky Sports football presenters. I quite enjoy some of the post game analysis, and appreciate that I am transitioning into an old, grumpy, dinosaur, and you can’t just have old white men like Souness forever.

However, it will soon become unwatchable if they keep adding “personalities” like Daniel Sturridge alongside the likes of Micah Richards. They are too loud and extroverted for me. Does Sturridge singing Usher songs or talking about the “stanky leg” add any insightful, or interesting analysis?

Don't get me started on this, Karen Carney with Neville and Carragher was the tipping point for me. Turn on Sky Sports News and you'll see 3 people slavering absolute pish about football, no idea who they are but I do know they're talking complete bollocks.

We want to hear the experts.

Correct, I only tune in between KO and the final whistle and manage to find something to do at half time.

When it comes to Sky Sports are the 'young ones' even interested in Daniel Sturridge singing Usher or Michah Richards slagging Roy Keane's lunch?

It strikes me as it being someone in later middle ages idea of what young people might enjoy. A bit like that Still Game episode when Jack and Victor are telling the teenager to give the girl he fancies the 'young patter'. 'Do you like the PlayStation, I like the PlayStation'.

The majority of SkySports audience will be 40+, adding a few supposed characters isn't going to change that.

People or businesses who use quirky marketing to hide an underlying deviousness and dishonesty. People who probably have an undeserved goodwill from the general public but are seen for what they really are by people who have ever had the misfortune to deal with them.

This rant may or may not be inspired by a certain soon to be liquidated company that rhymes with Boss Bragels.

I want the pundits to add something, show me something I might have missed, nuanced things, or elaborate on something tactical that’s happened.What most the pundits do, especially the newer/younger/‘character’ ones, is talk in cliches (top top player), or gush over something that’s actually mundane or simple but they’re determined to big it up

I've just asked my 17 year old neighbour what he thinks of Sturridge and Richards. He says they're "a joke" and much prefers Gary Neville.

Funny how Sky bombard me every week for my opinions on Skybet but never Sky Sports.

Don't smell it that much in edin. Don't do it myself but I'm all for legalisation, but I agree it's downfall is it stinks. I've been in my mates stairs and if one house does it every house reeks.

I was also stunned at how much new York has embraced it. There was more weed shops in Manhattan than in Amsterdam, looks pretty grimm

I'm not mad on the pile on with Lee Johnson and his 'quirky' chat' but I saw an interview with him yesterday where he described it as 'matchday minus one'. WTF is that all about? Just say 'the day before the game'.

I'm certain he won't be the only one saying it, horrific patter.

I don't do it personally but if and when it's legalised buying shares in a legal company I always think would be a good shout. A lot of companies on the US markets

It's everywhere in London. In the parks, on the street and someone somewhere on the tube last night was either smoking it or had smoked so much that they were just reeking of the stuff. It just smells so much more overwhelming than I remember it.

A few weeks ago my son was playing football and the reek coming over from the opposition side was horrendous. Big public park but the wind must have been in the wrong direction for us. My boy was on the wing and said the 2nd half was fun when he was right beside it!

Eldest has just gone into 2nd year. Said there are a few that have been smoking it since P7.

The amount of kids that are vaping as well is mental. Probably is a weed scented vape out there

I realised my football 'career' was over when I signed for a team that had players smoking it in the changing room before the game and again by the side of the pitch at HT.

I'd gone from a very good level to that and I just couldn't motivate myself to give up the time anymore to play with guys who just didn't give a toss.

Vaping is out of control . I don't undertsand why it's not clamped down on and why we sell disposable ones . Our park is littered with them . They stink too. I hate walking about continually smelling someone puffing out strawberry marshmallow or blueberry air . I also think people are addicted quicker because they puff on them continually rather than have 10 fags a day, the amount of nicotine they take in must be much higher than smoking cigarettes , I know the bad stuffs not in there but the addictive stuff is.

There’s a level of arrogance with vaping as well (not saying this is everyone), where you see people openly vaping at the football or other sports venues, in shops/shopping centres, public transport, even restaurants occasionally. Never used to see that with smoking once the laws changed 20 or so years ago.

Quite sad, not so much smoking or smoking weed but a team I played for many years ago were big drinkers. Oranges in the changing rooms were replaced with tins of Tennents lager or Super before, at half time, after the game and then topped up in the pub after

As much as I loved my beers back then I never touched the stuff, especially a Sunday as I didnt want to go to work on the Monday feeling like ****

Funny thing was, these guys were actually excellent players but with most coming from Lochend, Craigmillar, Leith etc most were battle hardened drinkers who normally frequented the pub 7 days a week

Aye some of the boys in this team were really good players as well. With a few of them you looked at them and could genuinely say they were the classic 'they could have made it but.....' types.

Very much the same, said person with the vodka was a cracking player and could have went pro but preferred going out with the mates, playing card/gambling and getting blootered. He and his Dad were very highly respectable youth coaches at Edina hibs for years, Im sure he coached Willie Millers U16 age group

I've always felt she appeared to be a really unlikeable person.

I read somewhere yesterday that she's been taking out directors loans from the business at the same time she was asking the general public to pour money in as "share-holer". All whilst knowing **** was about to hit the fan!

Plus, she's already got her next business registered for when she liquidates this one. She's registered Hot Mama Bagels at companies house in July.

I actually quite like the bagels, even if they're a more expensive than they should be.

She's already been trying to get suppliers to give her credit using the new company name. More front than Blackpool.

It was her whole act last week denying reports of administration and calling them a 'data breach'. Anyone she owes money too could have produced a letter to show she was lying. She has had cash flow problems pretty much from the day she started trading and has burned her bridges with so many suppliers locally, always with a sob story or the odd claim of anti antisemitism thrown in, yet she pressed ahead with an expansion that she was never close to being able to finance.

There's a weird little clique of these types in Edinburgh (and I daresay elsewhere). Put on a big 'you are with me or against me' act and are excellent self marketers but end up leaving a trail of failed businesses in their wake whilst never seeming to suffer financially themselves.

I'm just glad the mask has slipped as she has been a bit of a darling of the Edinburgh press for a few years. A shame a lot of small businesses and potentially her employees will suffer as a result though.

I always thought that Michelle Mone came into this category. Always touted in the press and on TV, always asked for her views about business, described as a Scottish business success story, but her companies never made a profit, I believe. I guess she looked good on TV. Wonder what happened to her.
