I've learned something about Fantasy Football this year. A 16-team league isn't as much fun as I thought it would be. If you draft badly or are hit by injuries or if your stud is a dud, it's really hard to pick up the pieces. In my case, it's more like feces (or farces). I know we are all affected but I feel unlucky this season with my team. Other than Jamal Charles, who missed some playing time with a high ankle strain, nobody else is really performing for me. Justin Forsett was a nice surprise but everyone else has been pretty ineffective. All my sleepers, well, they continue to sleep. I did have a decent QB backup, until he went on the IR so I'm stuck with Kaepernick. As I said, we're all affected, I certainly amn't claiming the "worst luck ever" trophy, but it's been hard going. I think the magic number might be 12. I'm in a few 12-man leagues and those seem to be going well (no, I'm not winning them but there are always players on the waiver wire - players that are worth a plug n play).

Vincent Jackson, Marques Colston and Percy Harvin - three pretty well-known WRs...and they have done nothing for me.

Fingers crossed though. There might be surprises yet. LOL. I think the most important thing is, and I say this to everyone, it doesn't matter how crap your team is you have an obligation to the rest of the league to keep playing hard and that's exactly what I plan to do for the remainder of the season. The reason I mention this is because I have a guy in one league who set his team at the start and because of the way things turned out early on, he quit setting his line up. He never responded to trade offers. Total douche bag. You don't do that.

Have to say for my first year and my no1 pick playing only 1 game all season I'm pretty happy just to be in with a shout for the playoffs, like hibsmax said I had no idea how difficult it would be at times trying to get players who I've never heard of but it's still been pretty enjoyable nonetheless

Was looking at my team and thinking "who the hell was my 1st round pick", so i searched through lots of pages and found out it was Montee Ball :faf: He has since been traded away and scored a massive 27 points this season.

Lesson learned.

Glad i made the playoffs to guarantee at least 8th place, my team hasn't scored over 100 points since week 6!!

Loch Ness Monsters for me this weekend - they roasted me earlier this season and the projections have me winning this week but it's hard to see how!

I have Edinburgh Dolphins who i beat 51-46 earlier in the season haha. Think i better improve this week!

Up against the Up Hill Garderners this week, hope for a big game by Tom and The Gronk!

Finishing top in the regular season has done me no favours, looking at the matchup against No Romo I think I could be struggling to get through this round

Maybe seeding is determined by total points scored? I know that's how it works in my two ESPN leagues. As usual, can't check NFL site from work so can't tell you.

I think, like the NFL, that the division winners are automatically seeded 1 & 2 so that's why the Dolphins are above you seeding wise.

I know but he's let me down badly this season. 2 friggin' points the other week. He might play a blinder this week but since I am not playing for anything I am more prepared to take a gamble on St. Louis who have beaten some pretty decent teams (Denver, San Fran, Seattle). He's been a total flop the second half of this season. The worst that could happen is I lose again. :)

This game can beat it...Dallas going for it on 4th down, Marshall injured!

I don't feel good about this week. Don't know who to put in at my flex position, gamble on Reggie Bush (slated to return from injury this week) or Steadman Bailey (24 points in the last two weeks, up against Washington this week) or play Hawkins (Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron being back will likely impact his production). I'm pretty set on dropping Crabtree though, he's been really poor this season.

So long as who you're swapping him out for is also in the later game, you can do that.

I thought my lineup was well set for this week but it looks like Rashad Jennings hasn't practiced this week and is a doubt, meaning it looks like I'm going to have to put Dan Herron in and hope he continues to outperform Trent Richardson!

I reckon this'll be a good, close contest actually, despite the predicted winning margin I'm miraculously predicted to have at the minute.

Yes he'll still count even if he doesn't play - as soon as the team's game kicks off then they are locked into their position or the bench depending where they are.

Looks like Marshall will be out for the rest of the season. My team really is poor in the WR department.

I hate 'Questionable' injuries in the run up to KO.

Jennings injured and only made a limited appearance at training this week but if he does play, it's against the Titans, who allow a LOT Of rushing points...

I wish it operated in the same way as the Premier League fantasy, where if a player is injured, your backup is automatically subbed in!

My upcoming loss is being attributed to them directly, as Jennings was in my flex slot and had been replaced by Johnson until he was 'declared fit'.

It's not a nailed on loss for you, but I have to be confident that Lacy and Cobb can pick up 16 points between them tonight against the Falcons. I'd be surprised if they didn't.

Edelmen remained Questionable so I left him out and put Sanu in, and also had Johnson in until I swapped him out for Jennings!

My performance in fantasy was about as good as the Saints performance yesterday. Dreadful

I would always check another source for a players designation. I heard people getting pissed about Thomas being active but not playing. Ouch.

Man! I lost by .6 points...Damn Torrey Smith and his it's not a serious injury all through the week, got me the square root of jack!

Oh well still an enjoyable experience for my first year ever, and went out all guns blazing against the top seed! Certainly adds an edge to games I'd otherwise have no real interest in!

If we start the draft for next year now we might have it finished for week 1 yeah...:greengrin

i know you can never expect to win a week with 55 points but that was hard to take. Keenan Allen just had to get 20 yards against NE and I'd have been fine.

Decent score but screwed over by those seedings! Not that I'm bitter :greengrin Enjoyed this season, particularly picking up Beckham off waivers and then watching him explode and Tony Romo turning in some Manning-esque performances. Zac Stacy, Ray Rice and Pierre Garçon however were terrible picks this year.

Another option worth looking into are weekly contests. FanDuel is a site that I just started using, literally started last week, so I am not sure what we can do as a private group. I know some people might be like "Why do we need to change anything?" and to that I would say, "Why limit ourselves? We can play in more than one league.". :) We could even run more than one NFL.com fantasy league - many people play in multiple leagues - and that way you increase your chances of being successful (unless you just suck at FF).

Having used a couple of sites (NFL.com, ESPN.com and Yahoo!) I think I prefer ESPN. I don't really know why but fantasy.nfl.com being blocked at work is part of it.

think i would concur with that, if you start off well in a 16 team league your at the bottom of the waiver wire for weeks after even when you go on a slump :greengrin i never managed to land any player i wanted on waivers, just kept dropping and picking up the same ones lol, ive enjoyed the challenge though but i would prefer a smaller league to be honest. credit to the new guys this season they have drafted and managed well :agree: kudos to them.

I'll wait until the season is completely over but I was thinking those who are interested in pursuing a live draft and those who are unable go into separate leagues?

The only problem here is if we split into two leagues then the challenge and skill kind of disappears - eight teams in a league isn't exactly exciting. I think now we've all had a year of playing with 16 we should all have a better idea of what to expect. 12/14 really should be the max and as nice as it is to be inclusive to new players, we've got to think about how much enjoyment we're getting from this if we go any bigger or start splitting the league.


As some of us have now been playing for three years I think we're knowledgeable enough to maybe try a dynasty league - the positive there being if you have a bad year, you get top pick in the draft the following year, players can be traded for draft slots and more decent players would be available on the waiver wire as teams start to stash future prospects. It's something to think about and even if 10/12 of us were interested we could do it as a secondary league.

I like this years set up and think that its much better than playing in a smaller league. Cant keep everyone happy I suppose. Maybe if we do 2 leagues folks who want to can have a team in both?

I've enjoyed it this season but have nothing to compare it to. Only thing i found hard was picking up good players but that might come with practice. Don't think i drafted particularly well either so trying to trade was difficult.

I'd be open to any league next season and hopefully use anything i have learned this year.

It was ****ing hard this year but still fun. Like the idea of a dynasty league as well although I would still suck.

That is the problem with a 16 player league, there is nobody on the waiver wire. OK, every week a couple of players might shine and attract attention, but that only benefits some people. I don't think practice has much to do with it to be honest. Every week I look at the waiver wire and there's been basically nobody to pick up. We're also not a very trade-heavy league. All we need to do is find 8 more people and we can have two leagues of 12. I've found that playing in a league of 12 is still challenging but the waiver wire is not as barren (since you have 36 more players to choose from - assuming 9 starters per team).

There are many people who play in multiple leagues (I'm playing in 4 this year) so I don't think getting the number should be too difficult. The key is to get the announcement out nice and early and, for me, get the draft orgranised. I know I said it before but it's worth repeating. My work draft was over in 36 minutes from start through finish. The draft should be quick because you're supposed to be prepared ahead of time. If your next pick is gone by the time it's your pick, you should already have the next player you want lined up. I'm up for playing multiple Hibs.net leagues. We could even tinker with different formats to see how things go. There's no need to try a new format every year to find out what we want, that could take years, but we could play a few in one year and go with what we all like the most.

I know Max hates the offline draft but I think it's one of the good things about our league. 3 solid weeks of epic drafting fun :aok:

The more opinions and discussion on this the better and hopefully get something sorted early as Max says. I'm open minded on the whole thing to be honest.

I've never played in one before but you get to keep players from one year to the next (not sure how many though). You can then use the players you are holding onto to trade-up in the draft order (should you want to). There's probably more to it than that but that's what I know.

I find it soul-destroying. :) Sometimes a day goes by between picks. There's just something about being on the clock and watching the league build in front of your eyes. There's none of this "can someone add my pick for me please, I'm mobile". You don't have people picking players who have already been picked. It's just a better experience IMO. If we do this again next year, I won't be in any leagues with an offline draft.

This is a nutshell. It's pretty much like running an NFL team, you stick with the same roster and you build it up through drafting, trades, swapping picks and free agent finds. I think it provides more scope for improving your team if you draft poorly in the first year. Say you had DeMarco Murray and I had nothing to offer you of interest then I could tempt you with my first round pick the following year - no player is off limits and theres no end to how creative you can get in trading (three team trades etc.). There's no way i would have parted with Matt Forte this year but if I had been out of the playoff picture and someone offered me their first round pick and someone like Carlos Hyde I would have seriously have considered it. It puts an emphasis on picking young players with potential rather than having bog standard guys like DeAngelo Williams filling up your roster. I think it would freshen things up a bit and add a little more challenge and intrigue.

Me too. The draft on here is tremendous. Id always vote to keep it just the way It is.

I'm also a fan of the offline draft, partly because I don't think I'd be able to set aside the time to set up my draft order and also complete a live draft unless it was between 9pm and 12am one night once the kids, and wife, are in bed..... Could it be completed in 3 hours?

It puts more emphasis on good drafting, but it is pretty hard to change things if you are struggling. You guys are crazy. :) Everyone I've spoken to over here about the Hibs.net draft can't believe it runs the way we run it. Just think, if we did do an online draft we could have multiple leagues setup in a couple of hours.

My work draft was completed in 36 minutes. All you need to do is print out a cheat sheet or two from your favourite fantasy football site, pick the players you want and then join the online draft. As players get picked, strike them off your cheat sheet. You can also participate in mock drafts to get an idea of what round certain players will be picked in so you can time your picks perfectly. For example, why pick Tom Brady in the first round when he is typically getting picked in round six? Of course mock drafts are not perfect, they're just a useful tool to help you,

Good drafting is obviously important but you can't predict injuries. If you you lose any of your first picks early on to injury, you're in trouble since sleepers don't really show their value until a few weeks have passed making wavier wire pickups risky (but also you're only option).

• Dynasty League
• Split the league in 2
• Keep the 16 team league
• online draft
• offline draft
• more people and have 2 bigger leagues (10-12 people)

Have I missed anything?

I think we could get a Dynasty League going, a lot of people seem to be for it and it would free up a lot of players into FA.
Would we carry on from what we have now ot have the Dynasty league seperate?

I wake up this morning to find out that Eddie Lacy is doubtful for the game at the weekend, perfect timing.... I've picked up his back-up off FA, so hopefully There'll be a clear decision before Sunday so that I can make the change if required.

I think he was pulled out of the last game because of a sore hip but he's been training, I would expect him to play but I wouldn't be surprised if he and starks shared the load as they've been doing that a lot this season.

There's nothing to separate me and No Romo in the early projections - meaning I'm probably in line for a humping this week! :greengrin

I'm happy with a dynasty league, also willing to play in multiple leagues if there's an online draft.

Can I ask - do enough of you honestly know enough about the players coming out of the college system to fully work a dynasty league?

Am I right in thinking a dynasty league would mean my team as it is right now, is the one I start with next season, or would we all draft anew next year with those players becoming 'ours'?

No we'd have to draft again with a view to it being a dynasty league as the value of players would be different. I think like any league, you learn as you go along - I couldn't have told you the Rams' running back depth chart at the start of the year but after this season I'm the world's foremost expert! :aok:

A dynasty team sound difficult. I would hate to be stuck with the team I have now longer than 1 season.

I think you get to choose to keep 2 or 3 players, not the whole team. There would still be a draft every year for the rest of your team.

Yeah sack that, even though I'm somehow in with a chance this year, I wouldnt wont this team for next year. If we were drafting for a dynasty team it would have been a totally different draft.

iv been interested in a dynasty league for awhile, excited about this opportunity to draft T-rich and keep him for a few years unless i manage to trade him away for a 1st rounder :greengrin

I think we need a poll with various options for next season; 16 team or 12, live or .net stylee draft, dynasty or not, or keep it unchanged from this year.

No that's a keeper league. A dynasty league is where you keep your whole team - allowing for any new players you draft the following year.

If we do a dynasty league, which there seems to be an appetite for, then we would have to do a new draft and not keep the teams we have at the moment.

I don't think you need to know about college football. I very much doubt that people are going to draft rookies with the plan on benching them and playing them next year - there isn't enough space on the bench to hold onto many spare players. The good thing about dynasty leagues, if I understand them correctly, is that you can keep players from one year to the next. That means if you find a diamond in the rough during the season (perhaps off the waiver wire) you can hold onto that player next year. That's the thing I like about it but I need to read more.

EDIT: I thought Keeper and Dynasty leagues were the same but that's not the case so the more football knowledge you have the better - if you're building a team for years to come.

Right. Who knows, you might be able to trash your whole team. I don't know, it could be a setting. I know you're not stuck with the same crappy team. If that was the case then nobody would play in a dynasty league since only a few people per league actually end up with a good team.

So which 4 players are getting ditched then? Like I said before, I like the 16 team league and hope it stays the way it is. Not fussed about the draft. Like the 3 week format we have just now but if most folks want to do a live draft then I'm fine with that. Gotta have a timer on it though, say maybe 1 min per pick. Dynasty draft, I'm not to sure on. I think maybe some folks are getting mixed up between a dynasty and a keeper league. Keeper league where we keep say 3 players each year sounds better to me and we could run that from this year.

I'll put it out there then for next year...

16 team regular league as we normally have.

10/12 team dynasty league for those interested. Going by the fact that some people say don't fancy it and others seem to. I'm quite happy to research our options for said league if there's interest.

Plenty of time to organise details for both of them. Other people may have better ideas.

I think someone suggested two twelve team leagues - extending an invite to new players or people having secondary teams. I can't see where anyone said cutting the 16 teams to 12.
