You are essentially throwing a new manager to the wolves. Minimal time to add new faces, fans already agitated and squads bereft of quality and confidence. If they don't make a decent impact then they go into a new season already under pressure.
I'm not saying I agree with it but there may be a feeling it's better to gamble the current gaffer does enough to keep you out the play offs then get him punted in the summer when there is more chance of a genuine clean slate for the new guy.
^^If there was a team isolated at the bottom that could maybe work.
As it is, I think that’s a really risky strategy.

I would rather risk a new manager coming in and assessing what he's got, 4 months to decide who he wants, what he needs etc. Especially in our case, I am absolutely convinced we will pick up enough points to avoid playoff/relegation.
