Eating out takes on a new meaning in Amsterdam

"However, claims there are now just 24 cases a day in the capital and that it could soon be free of the virus have been slammed.
There were in fact 49 people admitted to London hospitals with Covid-19 yesterday and likely hundreds of cases that did not need hospital treatment.
"I am extremely worried about the media message that London could be coronavirus free in days," said Prof Matt Keeling, from the University of Warwick.
He added: "If people think London is coronavirus-free that could be dangerous, and could lead to complacency, undermining all the struggles and sacrifices that everyone has made so far. A relaxation of vigilance could easily see R increasing above 1, and a second epidemic wave."

It is telling that when Scotland, Wales and NI choose to go their own way regarding lockdown the right wing press aren’t happy but when London has a lower R rate they bay for it to be allowed to go it’s own way.
Regarding garden centres being shut, I bought grass seed and a spade from B&Q at Fort Kinnaird on Wednesday.
Lies lies and more f***ing lies from these 3 stooges today, children might be safe going back to school but teachers aren't, basically teachers being forced back to work, the R rate doesn't matter anymore, Jenny Harries is a blether, and nurses aren't getting a pay rise.
Just glad I live in Scotland who has a compassionate leader looking after us.
It appears to be wrong though? 49 new cases in hospital yesterday and possibly hundreds of undetected cases?
If the information is incorrect it undermines any future stats that they release; seems bizarre that sources you'd assume to be reliable didn't give accurate details.
Hancock actually has no shame with the bare faced lies emanating from his mouth today.
Firstly implying that the R number is falling - despite SAGE saying the opposite, and the frankly unbelievable comments that "Right from the start we've thrown a protective ring around care homes" and "we put extra infection control procedures in place and prioritised testing in care homes".
It makes my blood boil that they can come out with this **** and nobody holds them to account.
Some typically open minded advice from the Netherlands:

Another public official incapable of actually reading/listening to, and comprehending science.

Schools opening isn't always just about the kids but teachers and school staff plus the adults taking them to school and congregating. Also the science is not always absolute especially in a fast changing epidemic. Huge amounts of work for schools to sort out distancing. Saw mention of classes of 30 having to have a max of 10.
Just watched the leader of Gateshead Council say on the news that if he had the power he would following Scotland's 'stay at home' continuation of lockdown rather than what he is being told to do by Westminster.
Last 6 week’s Friday death numbers in UK.
384 reported today vs 626, 739, 1005, 935, 1152 on previous Fridays.
The science may change, but the evidence consensus points in a one direction. I get that it's not easy. Especially with the youngest children who don't get social distancing, but again, the outputs from the RCPCH are pretty clear. Less than 2% of kids have experienced COVID-19 worldwide, and those who have experienced it, have mostly experienced mild symptoms, with evidence that their role in transmission is 'fairly limited'. Given that teachers primarily engage with children on their own, the risk of transmission from a low-percentage risk demographic to a teacher must be infinitesimal.
Having said that, sure, if teachers are requesting PPE to ensure their own safety/give confidence etc then that's perfectly understandable. I'm not saying it's easy, or that we should return to how it was pre-pandemic, but given both the evidence and examples of how other countries are safely reopening, I'm sick of hearing politicians pretending this is some sort of intractable issue.

You seem far more sure than the scientists "The importance of children intransmitting the virus is difficult to establish"
"There is some evidence of asymptomatic transmission"
"It is not clear how likely an infected child is to pass the infectioncompared to an infected adult"
