Anyway, it's interesting that Yorkshire has a slightly higher population than Scotland, but has less seats at Westminster.

To answer your question, however, it would seem that Labour's hope's in Yorkshire are a lot higher than in Scotland. They currently have 35 MPs although, unless something changes dramatically, I expect that to drop significantly.

And, unless it does change, Labour won't be getting any help from me either even though the prospect of "bringing the entire economy down" is hard to resist. :rolleyes:

It also may be that there will soon be more Tory MPs in Scotland than in Yorkshire, it's currently 17 to 13, a situation that will, no doubt, warm your Tartan Tory heart.

Thanks. That’s quite an entertaining read. It’s hard to know where to begin. The lack of any clear facts to back up this wee splinter groups claims due to everything being kept secret for diplomatic reasons is convenient.
It simply ignores that the Campaign for a Scottish Assembly had a large number of Labour politicians working alongside members of other parties. Why on earth would they jump ship to join a little known sideshow?
Ignoring the work done by the Scottish Constitutional Convention does great a disservice to the members of various political parties, the trade unions and the churches who put years of work in to producing the framework under which devolution was eventually delivered.
You really can’t doubt the enthusiasm for devolution that senior Labour figures in Scotland, in particular Donald Dewar had. Admittedly for many of them it was down to the belief that it would stifle demands for full independence. But the desire to introduce a Scottish Parliament was real.
Claims that Labour did not participate at a local level to get a Yes, Yes vote are simply untrue. The same tactics deployed to secure Blair’s landslide victory in the General Election were used in full to get the vote out.
I’d argue that Labour failed to understand the reality of devolution after it had been secured and their failure to get to grips with it lead to their slow then rapid decline in Scotland. The branch party jibes were effective because they were true.
There is no proof that the EU under cover of diplomatic secrecy forced a Westminster Parliament to devolve it’s powers. I would love to see evidence of how the Scotland-UN group became so powerful that they ‘personally brainwashed’ Ronald Regan though. :greengrin
I look forward to FH replying. If this group were so influential there surely must be more evidence of their work out there rather than a blog on the internet claiming ‘it was us wot did it.’
