Playoff picture starting to unravel - as it stands:
NFC: NY Giants (NFC East), Green Bay (NFC North), Atlanta (NFC South), San Francisco (NFC West), Seattle (WC) and Chicago (WC)
AFC: New England (AFC East), Baltimore (AFC North), Houston (AFC South), Denver (AFC West), Indianapolis (WC), Pittsburgh (WC)
Good win for GB last night and taking charge of NFC North, was the game on C4? if so is there anywhere where i can watch it? C4 OD for example?
Houston-Denver might be a bit of an anticlimax tonight. Both teams have already won their divisions, got first round byes and home field advantage until the AFC title game. Unless both teams get to the title game, in which case the team with the best record plays at home, there is nothing really for them to play for tonight...
Packers at Bears and 49ers at Patriots big match ups next week.

It's been a terrible season for the saints. Goodell has made sure of it. Just a shame I have to wait 9 months till our next meaningful game. I don't know why hibs and the saints can't have a good season at the same time.
Now I need to find an afc team to support for the playoffs (thinking jets! Haha) and whoever is playing the falcons.
I don't like the BBC Mike. Much prefer him in his relaxed joking mood on channel 4. Hope the British guy who's been hosting it the last couple of weeks hasn't been punted.
Laugh all you want but somehow or another we might still sneak the last wild card :faf::faf::dizzy:.
For some reason, I thought there were only 2 games left of the regular season.
I'd suggest Cleveland is unlikely - they're currently 5-8 so would need to beat Washington, @Denver and @Pittsburgh to get to 8-8 and hope both Pittsburgh/Cincinnati lose all of their remaining games - certainly not impossible but unlikely IMO.
I guess the three realistic contenders are indeed the Steelers, Bengals and Jets:
Pittsburgh: @ Dallas, vs Cincinnati, vs Cleveland
Cincinnati: @ Philadelphia, @ Pittsburgh, vs Baltimore
NY Jets: @ Tennessee, vs San Diego, @ Buffalo
Pittsburgh probably have the most straight-forward run-in of the three, closing with 2 home games but all three are capable of winning 2 of their remaining 3 games.
Well the bounty rulings are out from Tagiablue, Saints players all have suspensions dropped. Intresting that this came out after our season is effectively over. The law suits from the saints players for defamation against rodger goodell will continue.
The most intresting part of the ruling for me (page 17) was that the Packers in 07 and Patriots in 08 ran the exact same system that the Saints have been found guilty of. Both teams were fined 25k each.
I dont know why then that the saints a year later were fined, suspended players and coaches and had draft picks taken away from us. Its almost like we were the scapegoats so that goodell can defend himself in the injury law suits. A season destroyed by one mans agenda. I dont know how still is in the job.
Wouldn't say Pittsburgh have it straight forward at all. They could easily lose in Dallas and with them playing Cincinnati at all falls our way. Out of the three teams who's run in would you want? It's so wrong that we're in contention but them's the rules :greengrin.
Id say Cincinnatti look to have a better chance. I like Andy Dalton and they have a good D now. The Chargers have a very gentle finish too; carolina, jets and the raiders, could easily finish 8-8 and sneak it if anyone slips up.
In the NFC, i can see a few twists and turns before the end. the Giants and 49ers could get caught by the chasing pack and have to settle for a wildcard.
Looks like the 7 catholic basketball schools are going to dissolve the Big East in the next 48 hours. Don't know what implications this will have for the likes of UConn, Cincy & Temple but glad to see that these school's aren't letting football dictate their own future! The Huskies and Bearcats will jump at the first offer from the ACC or the Big 10 leaving us with the likes of Tulane and SMU - better to jump than be pushed - take a slight paycut from TV deals and remain relevant!
Cincinnati beat Philadelphia 34-13 last night and take a step towards the playoffs. They'll be hoping for a Cowgirls win to give them a lead and knock their confidence before the game in Pittsburgh next week now I guess.
I'd still want Pittsburgh's run in at the moment, even if they do lose in Dallas. They have 2 home ties against divisional rivals to reach the playoffs. If THAT can't fire a team up, they're beyond help!
Anyone know if its the Packers V Bears game on Sky?
I'm glad to see that (unsurprisingly) we're going to honour the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting tonight before the San Francisco game.
Players will wear black ribbons to honour the victims and pause for a minute's silence with 26 white flare being lit to honour the dead.
I dare say the entire NFL will pay its respects prior to the games tonight and the NY Giants have also said they'll have S.H.E.S on their helmets tonight.
Horrible set of circumstances.
Went fishing on the Scottish Cup Hibs V Aberdeen game thread but got no bites :turnevil:
14-7 at HT :flag:
Just to say I'm offski for a while so hope you all have a good Christmas and New Year :aok:. Will be back for the playoffs to see the Patsies fall at the first hurdle though :fenlon.
Giants and Bucs getting shut out by the Falcons and Saints respectively and Ravens getting pumped at home by the Broncos (though they've just got one back).
Hoping the Colts can somehow get ahead of the Texans here and the Ravens lose as we'd take the #1 ranking in the AFC (?)
Suicide
Wow. Why try something like that when you're ahead?!
Stupidity from Cobb.
Did well to keep them to 3 points there.
Going to be a nail-biting finish!
Texans FG puts them up by 2 scores.
Redskins will overtake the Giants and go top of the East tonight. Who'd have thunk it?
How rotten is the Bears retro uniform? :greengrin
Now for the D to stop them
YES!
WOW. the Giants got Stuffed!!
NFC North Champs :flag:
Well done Houston and Green Bay division champs.
Weird start in the Seattle game. Matt Flynn comes out for the first play, gets sacked, and then Wee Russell comes out for the second play:confused: why wasn't he starting in the first place?
First shut out for the saints since 95. Gives me hope for the defence.
Russell 2 rushing TDs already 14-0.
Seahawks playing really well!
The Seahawks are looking a little bit good. The right time of year to hit form! Just makes it all the more depressing to look back at a couple of the games we should never have lost earlier in the year.
Could be on track for the biggest points differential over two games in the last 50 years.
2 outstanding back to back wins but I'd hope the Seahawks aren't getting carried away considering the opposition :-)
Not getting carried away, but when you remember that we don't lose at home then it's looking like 5 wins on the bounce to close out the season. Okay, maybe a bit carried away
Still, you can only beat what's in front of you so I'll take the 108 points viewing over the last week.
Christ we are looking rubbish!
That kapernich (sp?) is some player though. :agree:
Absolutely no luck with us tonight.
Another turnover. FFS!
Complete waste of time staying up for this! Patriots cannot do anything tonight, crazy!
Well that's our divisional aspirations over.
Can't wait to play the 49ers next week!
Well, I think I may have misspoke.
What a mental match! And to think that I was about to put on my Cheers box set.
Last 38 seconds to tie the game..!
Pathetic attempt at an onside kick.
Only Brady or Eli Manning would do in that situation but woeful, just woeful onside kick. Do they ever come off? I remember the one in the superbowl but no one was expecting that, this was clear as day and just pitiful.
Yeah, that is the problem with Sundays, I have been in front of the tele since the Spurs game! :aok:
Great comeback from the pats to tie the game @ 31-31 musta been gutted to lose a Td just 2 plays later, what's with the ship foghorn? Sounded like the titanic was heading inshore lol
Bit gutted in the end to lose but San Francisco are a damned good team and they fought hard.

Brilliant to have clinched the NFC North for the 2nd year, the Bears were looking brilliant through the first half of the season and a Wild Card was looking the best option, I cant see us catching ther 49ers for the 2nd seed but the 3rd seed is a decent one as well.
I still think we have a chance to catch the second seed for the AFC if not the first. Out of the four teams in the hunt for #1/2, our run-ins are thus:
New England: @Jacksonville, vs Miami
Baltimore: vs NY Giants, @Cincinnati
Houston: vs Minnesota, @Indianapolis
Denver: vs Cleveland, vs Kansas City
I'd fancy Denver to win both of their remaining games but Baltimore have a hard 2 closing games, with both teams still fighting hard for the playoffs and Houston have a difficult trip to face Indy and host a resurgent Minnesota team still fighting for the playoffs also.
What a thoroughly disappointing game from the Pats. It's funny how sometimes it's not just one thing that goes wrong, it's everything. Taking nothing away from the 9ers D, but the Pats didn't make things too difficult for them barring the comeback. When we were 31-31 I went to the kitchen to get something and when I got back the 9ers' were already in our half and I sat down just in time to see Arrington miss a tackle and the 9ers get back to 7 points ahead. Ridley is worrying me a little. That's 3 fumbles in 2 weeks. The one last week was picked up by Lloyd for a TD so that's "OK". His first one yesterday wasn't really a fumble since he was down by contact, but he still lost the ball. Then there was the real fumble. And then Vereen fumbles too! The weather last night was perfect for Pats football but the 9ers looked more comfortable. And then there were lots of dropped passes. Still, we had a tough three weeks against MIA, HOW then SF....now JAC and then the fish at home so hopefully we can build some momentum again.
As for the onside kick. I don't think it was awful. How often do they really work anyway? It didn't look good but when the analysts were talking about it afterwards they were saying that on it's 2nd or 3rd bounce it should have hopped high into the air. If you watch it in slow mo you will see that it does hop up but only a few feet rather than about 10 feet. I don't know how anyone can expect a kicker to have that much control over the spin of the ball. I think they just practice it over and over again and hope that it pays off. I would be that in practice situations it works about 5% of the time. And there's only a 50% chance of that. ;)
Calmed down a bit now about terrible onside kicks! :greengrin
Bring on JAX! :aok:
I fancy you to win both your games to finish 12-4 but miss out on the bye week.
I also think the Ravens will get caught by one of their divisional rivals, they look woeful.
Two classic SNFs coming up, for those of us not working over the holidays :greengrin 49ers at Seahawks this weekend, vital game for both teams, and then Cowboys at Redskins next week in what could be a NFC East decider :aok:

NOW can we ditch these delusions of the Jessies being a potential playoff team? :greengrin
Jets are bencings Sanchez for this weekends game...
... For McElroy.
Though it would surely be Tebow time? :greengrin
Tebow threw five passes this entire season for 39 yards. His future's still up in the air. Sanchez on the other hand has proven he just isn't good enough for the NFL, though. I was looking at his career stats earlier, even when the Jets had their playoff runs his ratings are around 70 or lower and as many interceptions as TDs. He's been lucky to have been given as long as he has.
I can see Matt Flynn, Vick or Alex Smith at the Jets next season. The good news is there are a lot of decent experienced QBs out there without a starting job.
His future is clearly in the ground. When your #1 is so terrible they put in a guy who has only played one game ahead of him? His team mates at both teams have slated him, he clearly isnt rated anywhere in the league or someone would have tried to get him before deadline day.
Tebow is all hype, always has been since he set foot on an NFL field. The ESPN analyists are all saying he is over too. Especially at QB.
Sanchez shoulders a lot of blame - but so must the coaching staff, more so IMO. He looked great a few seasons ago, little raw perhaps but the coaching staff have not secured any top level receivers for him to target either. And some of the plays this season were a shambles all over the field, what are they doing between games?!
I feel sorry for Tebow. Whether or not you rate him he deserves to know what his future is. Why have him on the roster all year long as the backup, drop your starter and then go to your 3rd string? It's obvious that Tebow's future is not with the Jets but I don't think they gave him a fair crack. Maybe they didn't like what they saw in practice, I don't know, but the whole thing just stinks. I think the Jets handled this pretty badly and I would like to see if Tebow could develop into a better QB - but which team would take the chance?
Jets have apparently announced they are to "Part ways" with Tebow and called his signing a "failed experiment".
jaxonville :agree: 2 reasons why, he puts bums on seats, which they badly need and blaine Gabbert  they might even set up their offense around him and mojo, i dont know why he chose NY as a destination to start with, maybe he thought he would ride into gotham and eradicate evil? anyways good luck to him hes a likeable guy just not a very good player.
Why would JAX sign Tebow when then can get a top quality QB from the draft?
Tebow may sell jerseys but he doesnt fill seats IMO. Jax people may want to see a local boy at QB but he brings too much baggage - not all his fault but that is what he brings.
I dont rate the guy (clearly) but I do accept that he has taken all this well, he hasnt moaned or cried in the media despite the fact he was clearly misled on his position at the New York Jokes, er, Jets.
[QUOTE=Haymaker;3450562]Why would JAX sign Tebow when then can get a top quality QB from the draft?
looking at this years QB draft class hopefuls its quite a poor year especially after the last 2 years, not 1 QB is a standout and id reckon the 1st overall pick wont be a QB this time
If Jacksonville got a good coach from college football that runs the option offense (the guy from Oregon Ducks?) and put Tebow in the centre of it it might just work:agree: Some good NFL teams run a version of the QB option these days (San Francisco, Washington, Seattle)
Is the lions v falcons game on tv?
Megaton beats Jerry Rices single season yardage record with another game to go:not worth
So much for the Madden curse:greengrin
Here we go:flag:
A 7 hour redzone sesh to get warmed up for what could be one of the games of the season tonight.
Im going to have a sleep before the big game later. I have bad vibes, still no news about Shermans appeal. Hopefully that means he plays...
Pats have a bad start against the Jags, GB 14-0 up on the Titans
