Ah Hibs.net, where Maybury being on trial was greeted with wails of derision, but now said player going somewhere else is a disaster.
I bet Dundee might well have been willing to pay him more, because they will see him as a starter and we'd see him as a back up. This does not mean we cannot afford to pay him more if we had wanted to.
Probably wasting my time bringing logic into this, within a few pages we will no doubt have it as FACT that we've missed out the SPL's Paolo Maldini for the sake of £50 Petrie would rather spend on moustache wax...
We played the same starting 11 against Union Berlin and Huddersfield, which was a huge indication as to PF's thinking. Maybe after the Let's Work Together calls, more have renewed, allowing us to bring in other's? The window is open until the end of August, let's not press the panic button just yet.....
My personal call to Fenlon to preserve all transfer business to the last day of the window is bearing fruit. Gear yourselves up for August 31st lads.
I'm not panicking, it's just, after last years pre-season debacle... I hoped, we would have at least, got a settled side together to move forward with. Although I do understand the ambiguity caused by Rangers/Sky funding, I still hoped we would have learned some lessons.
Baldy. You can add Griffiths to that pair for me as well.Quote:

Its not really good enough for a club like Hibs to have the bare bones of the crap we had last year to start the new season. I don't get this August 31 thing anyway, the season starts on Sunday. Just as well the 7000 early renewars didn't do the same and leave it until then.
I dont believe there are no players out there that could improve our team for the money we are offering. The bottom line is they have not been identified. For a close season rebuild, it is very disappointing.
Got to say thats the way its starting to look.
The only actual new signings we have made are Cairney, Williams and Clancy.
Everybody else at ER was here for the 2nd half of the season and the cup final and the truth is that they struggled against just about every team they played ... the 3 new guys are not IMO going to change that situation a great deal, though I did like what I saw of Cairney against Huddersfield, Williams looked solid enough and Clancy looks at least as good as anybody else we have had at RB recently.
Forgetting the forward position we desperately desperately needed to strengthen the midfield and up to now not only have we not done that, we havn't even looked like we are thinking about it .. our targets ( not that Hibs ever say who they are after ) seem to be defenders and forwards .. or at least thats what PF seems to be thinking about.
We should be busting a gut to vastly improve our midfield and its not happening.

Hopefully we will be ok with what weve got.....?????????
So we might not have been outbid, but we may have been slow off the mark in securing this player's signature?
If we were interested in him, that is.
That still wouldn't paint the club in the best possible light on the transfer front. If it were to be the case.
Kerr's been offered terms.
Is that that then... I really did hope for more this week tbh... Especially since the telly contract had been sorted.Quote:

If this is indeed it then we are in for a battle royale again this season.
I'm glad that we're not buying a whole new squad. We've tried this - it ends up in cancelled contracts and squad fillers.
In a team that lacks leadership, we're signing two experienced heads in Maybury and Kerr, the latter of whom was captain at Aberdeen. Williams is an experienced goalkeeper, who played regularly before coming to Hibs, and a fans favourite. Cairney is a talented player, looking to make the step up, but with a good history of goals from midfield, and Clancy is an established SPL player, who featured in a number of positions for Motherwell, regularly last season.
We're building a team, and it takes more than a window. We're looking to improve, but if you think that you can realistically expect to go from relegation struggler to Champions league over a summer, then you're off your heid.
This team is the team we have. I simply hope it is an improvement on last year, and continues to improve. Top six material hopefully.
How many windows do you reckon then. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting and getting told to be patient, its been a transition period for the best part of 30 years. Which window will we have a team ready to play to the standard a team with the third highest support in the league deserves. I can't believe we are not ready for the season AGAIN. We have almost the same team that failed so badly last season. Two home league wins!!! So, how many windows is it then?
Nearly the same team? We're looking likely to have 5 new faces in the door, plus two players who we thought we would lose. That's more than half a team. So we can't have "nearly the same team", especially with so many out the door! People are being hysterically facile.
Is Ludo roy Coaching the young goalkeepers at the club ? along with Scott Thomson .....Dont want to start anything silly here but it looked like him coming out of East Mains earlier this evening
Must say, Michael Stewart's work level was way above what we have had. And was actually a bit talented.
season starts in couple of days and currently we dont have a midfield as such no ball winner and no talent not seen cairney so cant count him in that one.
Will be same as last few years we will sign a couple of guys on last day of window and by which time we will already be playing catch up.
I may be proved wrong however i very much doubt we will see any new faces before sunday or infact before the derby.
I am pleased we have signed clancy however a good player for motherwell so hopefully he will do well
Mcpake well dont need to say anthing about him we know we are getting a worker and a leader new goalie looks no bad
so we have added a few just would like a bit more.
Is there any real rumours doing rounds about pos players coming in postions we need
The Lee Miller rumour seems to have died a death?
:agree: Indeed - including the comment below.
Champions League! :hilarious
The majority of folks are just desperate for our club to avoid a repeat of the last two seasons. Many remain unconvinced that the transfer activity to date is sufficient to avoid that outcome.
As Hibs supporters, we all travel more in hope than in expectation these days.
Forsyth has knocked back Dundee and will decide upon a move to either us or St Johnstone this weekend.
I agree but surely we have 1 or 2 strikers missing than we had last season and the midfield area has not been really touched upon only really cairney? Jury is still out on Claros?
Do hibs not sign players early so they can save a few weeks wages, seems to me that happened a few timrs over the last few seasons. So they arrive at hibs unfit and a few games out of sync and we all say"give h a few games" "theres a footballerin there"...
Sorry guys rant over...Just dont feel comfortable wth what we have in certain areas.
Emille heskey set to sign:greengrin
Have to say not sure why so many people back petrie 1 managerial success then there was collins he screwed that up.
Never seems in a hurry to part with any cash rumour has it he always tries to get players on the cheap to the point they go elsewhere.
As previously said thanks for the nice stadium and the training ground but that has come at the expense of the team which im sure is where we want any money now to be spent.
It will be same old same old crappy bosmans on last day of window and a season to forget again surely he can see we need players in now and not in 3 weeks.
However with Hibs continued silence we dont know if Pat has money just not spent it yet waiting on right players so maybe it is no Petrie
By which time we are usually already playing catch up in the league this policy has not worked for the last 4 years and doubt it will work this year.
Would rather pay a bit extra to get guys in before season starts as building a team doesnt just happen when players are put together it takes time if you wait 3-6 weeks it is more time it takes to gel etc
Indeed.
Perhaps we'd make more progress by actually signing players that want to play for Hibs rather than waiting till the end of the window and signing players who are desperate for a contract wherever they can get it. There's also a reason that nobody has signed most of these players as well...
By not backing the manager against the players when he had just won us the cis cup first cup since 1991.
Collins tried to change culture of club get the players to be proper pros and the players didnt like it.
Collins wanted the players to be total professionals to me there is nothing wrong with that.
Collins also wanted the players to study the game be at training early in morning and not leave until 4-5 oclock in the day and agian the players didnt like it they went to petrie and instead of telling them to bolt if they didnt like new ideas there is the door he had meeting with them did he not.
Since then the club has had a softness about it and that is part of the problem.
Mark my words watch Livingston in couple of years with yogi and collins what im told is collins is putting into place same professionalism at livy as he was trying to do here and they will do well
Less bickering and more rumours please :aok:
Petrie absolutely backed Collins.
He met the players out of courtesy, doing so at his home was a mistake.
By all accounts, and the evidence backs this, he listened to the players complaints and then made it clear that JC was the manager and that was that. He also backed Collins decision to remove the players he perceived to be the 'ringleaders' of the rebellion from the club in the summer.
Still the fact that Petrie backed the players has become yet another FACT. ENDOF. to beat Petrie and the club with at any opportunity.
Putting all the sniping aside, on the eve of the season after 2 years of dreadful football and sub standard players, we are seriously under prepared for the coming season.
We expected a lot of change, a summer of change even and the best case scenario was a lot of new players to take time to gel. We have lost 15 and brought in 5, 2 of which were here last season.
I just listened to the podcast from sportsound last night and they were raving about how good united were. And how good a performance Motherwell put in and even St Johnstone. United in particular look like they have excellent young players, a solid defence, creative midfield and superb front three.
Us? Midfield is no better, if anything marginally worse. And it was ineffectual last season. Attack is worse off and defence may be a little better. And we finished 11th last season.
All I can see for first two games is :-
Dundee United 3 Hibs 0
Hibs 0 Hearts 2
As others have said we could be in trouble by the 1st Sept if we wait to get a couple in then. Saying that we have the AGM in October....so oh all know what's could be coming then...
Agreed.
The overhaul we absolutely desperately needed has not materialised and it's an absolute disgrace to be honest. Close to 8000 season tickets sold if we're to believe Petrie and yet almost every other team in the league appears to be in better shape than us, the majority of whom who have much less in the way of season tickets, and at cheaper prices!
I honestly can't see anything other than 2 defeats in the first 2 games and then we are absolutely back to square one.
It will take at least another 3 quality signings to persuade me otherwise.
I am going to put a bit money on United to give us a hiding. 4-0 should stem off the pain of defeat.
You could almost write the post match report already.
We had McPake and Griffiths for a good part of last season and still finished 11th. Two of the others you mention might improve on who we had in those positions already but Cairney in midfield in the SPL is untried so we can't say if that has strengthened our midfield and on paper at least it looks not to have. Our foward line looks weaker (again on paper).
As others have said above, the overhaul some of us hoped for has not materialised and there is a chance that clubs with less resources than us are doing better with the little they have.
What is really frustrating for me, and to a point undermines our club, is that the fans seem to recognise problems that the club don't or at least appear to be incapable of sorting. That at a time when Dundee Utd are fairly consistently good not comparing with the OF, St J continue to punch above their weight as do Motherwell, etc. The club continually ask us to back them but some may feel they are simply flogging a dead horse, because year in year out it's just the same old. I don't know what players are available but like others here I think I have realistic expectations, which haven't been met for a few years now.
