Qualifier Jacob Fearnley from Edinburgh pushing Djokovic all the way on Centre Court. Crazy scenes when he took the third set!
He doesn't look remotely fazed, although I gather he honed his tennis on the US college circuit so he's probably got a bit of steel about him.
Always great to see Novax looking rattled. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a 'medical' timeout called if this keeps up.
Dart beating Boulter was a bit of an epic.
Hopefully Cam Norrie can do the same to Draper, a set up and cruising the 2nd so far.
Some win for Cam Norrie played really well the bits I have seen
Tremendous tribute to Andy from the BBC there, quite moving. 😥
He’s honestly just an unbelievable human being.
Easily, by a country mile my favourite ever sportsman. Not even close. Deserves every bit of praise he gets.
Fantastic tribute. What a man, what an athlete.
That’s so well done. When you see who’s speaking so warmly about him, the best to play the sport, it’s inspiring.
I’m too young to remember the likes of Allan Wells, in my living memory the only other Scotsman who has went toe to toe with the worlds best is Stephen Hendry (someone please correct me if I’ve missed someone). And for me, I think Andy pips him, partly because of the sheer will and grit he’s displayed over nearly 20 years, and partly because many British snooker players were successful, Hendry never had to carry the weight that Murray did in terms of national expectation and pressure.
Whenever it comes Andy, enjoy retirement, you’ve earned it, and made many of us proud
Hoy was terrific but Andy's on a different level. Cycling enjoyed enormous funding and produced a string of top Brits whereas Andy dug his success out in a sport where British success had become all but non existent. I don't think any British sportsman came under greater pressure than he did and to have prevailed as he did when up against such phenomenal opponents marks him out as a class apart.
Agree totally the generation he was competing with was off the scale. If he was at his peak now he would have won many more slams imo. In saying that with three grand slams two at Wimbledon two Olympic golds Davis cup and numerous other titles his career achievements are absolutely brilliant.
Thank you :aok:
I agree, Chris Hoy is one of Britain’s most successful Olympians (if not THE most), the difference between him and Andy Murray is who else was there. Hoy had some very successful British cycling peers, male and female, who also helped make British cycling very very successful. AM had no one really. Henman was on the way down as Murray came to prominence (and as has been shown, has never been on Murray's level), and there’s been no one else come close.
Sensational Alcarez match earlier.
Radacanu into the second week. She's got something extra about her when it comes to the British women. Potentially the Andy Murray of her game.
Got tickets for no. 1 court tomorrow, looking forward to seeing Andy and Raducanu.
Emma Raducanu looked really good. Playing with a smile on her face great to see
Raducanu has withdrawn from the mixed doubles, so, that's it at Wimbledon for Andy.
Does not seem like Judy Murray was too impressed with the late drop out.
Nothing major.
A journalist posted the word 'astonishing' when the news broke, and she replied 'yes, astonishing'
She's citing a wrist niggle but her team will have persuaded her to drop out. They weren't happy she'd agreed to play.
The Murray camp will be entitled to be a bit hacked off at the 11th hour call-off but I agree the way he bowed out with Jamie seemed a fitting farewell.
I'm not really that surpried she's scratched from the mixed doubles , the singles are more important than her , it would have been nice to see Andy one last time, hopefully at the Olympics he'll get a chance
