Lakers looking to get the first win of the season vs 2-0 portland.
A chances to see LeBron add some more points on the race to beat kareem as the all time scorer.
8:30 on YouTube.
Another defeat for the lakers which now makes them 0-4.
Make that 0-5 and questions will be asked when they can get the first W of the season.
Anyone see Dwight Howard Taiwanese debut? Seen his highlights last night and looked like he was having a lot of fun.
LeBron to break the scoring record tonight.
Can see him dropping 40+
Game now stopped with ten seconds to go in the third so they can have a presentation (and court invasion) for James 😂😂😂
yeah the Lakers are already almost all in on however long Lebron will be there, if they trade these 2 draft picks they have left they will be completely gutted, we could be looking at several years of the lakers being non-factors.
as for him, he deserves a lot of respect for his longevity, and dedication to keeping himself in the best condition, and he is an excellent player
Have checked the standings and scores at times but not really watched much recently.
Playoffs now so time for the league to get exciting.
Lakers @ memphis tonight at 8 so will give it a watch.
late lakers run (mostly without lebron) got them into the playoffs, remains to be seen how they get on
Funny kind of season, there’s probably at least 5 teams (Denver, Golden State, Phoenix, Boston, Milwaukee) who are strong candidates to win it all, maybe Philadelphia too, yet no one standout team either
Good start for the lakers there with some good numbers all around for them.
Currently watching golden state vs King's game 7.
Was surprised at miami 4-1 win vs the bucks and lebron couldn't get another ring could he?
Lakers 2-1 Warriors so far, from the gamebox it looked like a great team effort with everyone putting in some numbers
Close series with Celtics and 76ers and suns and nuggets.
Miami and lakers look on course for the conference final.
Game 7 with Celtics and and 76ers live on youtube now.
What's the deal with the players wearing tights - and sometimes just on the one leg?
I think in some cases it’s to do with players having muscular injuries or propensity for injuries, and the tights/sleeve keeping heat and tension on the appropriate area.
some of them as padded at the knee or elbow, to protect from impact injuries between bodies clashing or hitting the floor.
I did notice one of the Boston players had a T-shirt type top in under his jersey, which had padding on the chest, presumably to help protect when taking a charge.
lastly, I think some of it is just patter, following the crowd, like footballers wearing bandages wrapped round their wrists, or those wee tube things that were popular for a bit to wear over your socks to keep your shin pads up, or putting Vicks on their chest.
Didn't see the game last night, looked like a good effort from the Lakers but Jokic with 21 rebounds 14 Assists and 34 points just enough for the Nuggets.
2-0 heat another quality performance from play off Jimmy, Bam having a great game as well a lot of pressure on celtics now
Was wondering if any Hibee NBA geeks are playing Sorare?
The Joker is a robot
I think the Heat kinda over achieved getting to the finals tbh, which I mean as a compliment to them. They’ve beaten teams that on paper were stronger
that said, You’re right, the joker had an incredible play offs and incredible finals, there’s very few in the league that can give him a challenge when he’s in this form
I’ve never actually seen him play :greengrin, so I’ll reserve judgement or comment hahaha
what I would say, is that going to San Antonio, with Pop as his coach and looking like Tim Duncan as a mentor figure, is that he should have a fantastic starting point and some great people to guide him, if he chooses to lean into that and take on what they have to share. If he’s patient, and works on what they want to with him, and they can build a decent squad around him, he could be a playoffs mainstay for 15 years, albeit there’s many external factors that could have a heavy influence.
the best thing the spurs can do (and I fully expect them to) is keep him away from toxic locker room presences, and me-first players.
what’s your thoughts?
Have only seen clips here and there of him, he's described as a once in a millennium player and one of the greatest prospects of all time.
A 7'4 PF/C who can shoot like a PG but as you said two great legends of the game with bags of experience and knowledge who will only help him.
I think we’re a couple of years from seeing a bit of a sea change in the league. There’s no real anointed successor to James/curry/Durant, and the generation after them (Davis, embiid, etc) haven’t really stepped up to that same level. Joker could get there, but I think the likes of wembanyama, banchero etc could have a bit of an open field to step forward and be the man.
im not sure we’ve had a period like this before, stretching a long way back. Certainly Russell/wilt/Jerry west to Kareem to magic/bird to Jordan to shaq then Kobe to lebron/curry/Durant, there’s always been a successor there. Interesting to see how the league handles such a situation
he was indeed, now there’s talk of the Pelicans trading him, but I think if they do, they won’t be getting maximum value, as his years in the league have shown him to be injury prone, not willing to keep himself in condition, not really dedicated to it in the way that others are, and not particularly interested in defensive work (a pet peeve of mine with nba players lol).
that all said, maybe a trade would be what he needs, to a team with a harder stance on conditioning and attitude (which probably rules out Chicago sadly for me :greengrin), where so,e senior players would hold him more accountable.
Wembanyama made his summer league debut last night, just watched his highlights on YouTube.
Looked very good on defence as you would expect him with his size etc.
Only went 2 for 13 though with a couple of simple misses on the lay up and a wide open 3, a few turnovers also due to poor handles.
He did get a welcome to the NBA moment getting dunked on a little nasty and for me had his ankles broken but an offence foul was giving.
Full numbers 9 points 8 rebounds 3 assists 5 blocks.
A big crowd of 17.5k watching also, he will take time to adjust and get physically better.
A much better second game for Wembanyama with much improved on the shooting.
Spurs have pulled him from playing anymore summer league games.
don’t pay too much attention to summer league, but noticed that scoot Henderson has been pulled as well
can see the summer league becoming a place for 2 way players and guys trying to get on a roster/hop up from the G league in years to come, the big name rookies seem to hardly play these days
With the Dame Lillard now in Milwaukee with Giannis are the Bucks favourites for the championship this season? Losing Jrue massively affects the defence but Lillard makes a huge difference on offense..will the Bucks just simply score 140 in every game and win it that way???
Definitely a ‘chips all in’ move from Milwaukee, although there’s been a few rumours that Giannis has been wanting them to do more or he’ll think about walking at the end of his contract, so they probably felt they had to do something.
As far as favourites, there’s a few times on a similar level. The Celtics will be there if they can keep everyone fit, moving for Jrue was a good move, although it’s cost them depth. Denver will still be there, a well balanced team. The Warriors will always be in with a shout, especially if Chris Paul can mesh well, which I think is likely. With their window closing due to various ages and the sheer size of their wage bill, I wonder if they’ll see this year and possibly next as their last big push. the Suns will fancy their chances against most teams, as will Miami, who I think will be itching to pull off a big trade to boost their chances, after missing out on Dame.
not sure how much I'll be watching now that TNT is showing the upcoming season, hopefully they'll put a free game on YouTube like sky did.
A good start for the Warriors, not really seen much action so far, Nuggets looking strong as expected.
When did the BBC start showing games? 76ers game on live just now.
Really not sure as the Lakers game is live on BBC Three just now.
Not watched much this year of NBA, did see that Dikembe Mutombo has died from brain cancer at the age of 58.
So history was made and LeBron and Bronny become the first father and son to play an NBA game, Bronny only played 3 minutes with 1 rebound.
It’s hard to completely feel sorry for Bronny given he’s grown up in incredible wealth and is being paid millions of dollars by the Lakers, but it’s just hubris on LeBron’s part that his son is there. He is demonstrably not good enough to be playing in the nba (at this stage in his career, he may well develop).
He’s going to be at the centre of a circus everywhere he plays, with every flaw and shortfall in his skills being magnified and dissected, and in some cases mocked. Not helped by his Dad suggesting more than once on social media that he’s better than plenty of the players in the league (which he really isn’t). It’s an ego trip for LeBron having his boy there, he effectively blackmailed the Lakers into drafting him. I get it’s probably a dream for most parents to be able to work/compete alongside their child, but still. I don’t wish to sound nasty towards the young man, but I predict he’ll be out the league within 6 months of his Dad retiring, unless LeBron buys his way into ownership somewhere, at which point Bronny will swiftly be acquired by that team.
It’s nepotism, and fear of annoying LeBron. The hints and rumours have been there for a couple of years that whoever drafted Bronny would almost certainly get lebron as well. The lakers are terrified of lebron walking, so took him to placate lebron.
His boy is a very poor player, hardly played in college because he just wasn’t good enough, and is comfortably the worst player in the league, there’ll be dozens of players in the G-League who are better.
None of the above is the laddie’s fault of course.
:aok: Cheers buddy
Bronny not even involved in last night's win, not sure if he's had the game with his dad and won't see him much anymore.
As I say, it’s hard to feel completely sorry for him, but I do have sympathy, he’s been thrust into an arena that he really has no business being in, but his Dad wants him there and his ego won’t tolerate being told no. Bronny will spend at least this season being under a lot of scrutiny, every made/missed shot, every fluffed play or highlight reel will be dissected on multiple channels, not to mention podcasts, long form writing, social media etc. he won’t be able to escape from it at all, and again linking back to lebron, he has a notoriously thin skin and is prone to a lash out on social media from time to time, I can’t see the mix of that and his boy getting criticism going well.
I think I saw something from the Lakers the other day saying Bronny will spend time between their G League team and the main squad, I don’t think that will lessen the media spotlight on him though.
What’s going on with Mavs trading doncic incredible that , has something gone on I’ve missed?
Have not watched any this season, with tnt would put on a free game here and there, I did keep seeing something with Jimmy Butler over the past weeks on my YouTube.
Butler has effectively gone to war with his team (Miami Heat). He wanted a massive extension done last summer, didn’t get it, so told the team he would not sign a new deal and wanted traded to one of 4 teams, which they refused. Since then he’s been injured frequently, and has form for poisoning the well to get what he wants, leading the team to suspend him twice, and make it clear they will trade him anywhere. The trade deadline is the 6th of February so we’ll find out soon how this will play out.
Doncic is a real shocker, be interesting to see if there’s more to it than we’ve heard so far. The gist is that the Mavs are unhappy with his continued lack of physical conditioning, and were getting the fear of dropping a $345 million dollar contract in the next 18 months. But, as several commentators are asking, why would you proactively offer him to one team, who you didn’t even wring out the best return from, when you could simply make it known he’s on the table for trade and let various teams get into an auction to get him? Even though it’s known he’s not one for keeping his body in the best condition, he’s an excellent player, teams will gamble they can get him and keep him in a better physical condition. The Nets got a better deal when they traded Mikal Bridges earlier this season, who’s not on doncic’s level
Have started to watch some highlights here and there and older games on YouTube.
All-star weekend with a different format which should be interesting.
Have been keeping an eye on scores here and there, did watch OKC and the Lakers last week, I just don't feel the game is fun anymore and when you have players saying the same it's not good, playoffs begin soon though.
I did see Ja getting into trouble again for his gun celebrations, he has been warned though, seen Zirkzee doing one last night and understand it's different sports.
These small fines means nothing to the players, it's just a different era, every team plays the same way with a high pick and roll and look for the 3, many have said the players are just robots on the court.
Players sitting out when they want and the game has gone far to soft, I'm not saying go back the the Celtic and Detroit bad boys, the game is emphasised on scoring and offensive officency over defensive toughness and physical play.
Back in the day the all-star would big a big deal with today's game is just a 3 points/Logo jump shot fest with absolutely no defence whatsoever.
I agree mate, there’s little variety in playing styles across teams now, and defence is very much a secondary consideration.
I’m not against some load management, but it’s swung too far, and coupled with tanking, flopping and whining at refs so much, I’m not surprised there’s been a bit of a switch off from fans.
I did check out Ja's celebration after you posted about it, Gayle needs to put more into his next time, which I found amusing.
Play in begins tomorrow then the playoffs on the 19th.
Watched clippers at Denver and was a very enjoyable game with the Nuggets winning 112-110 in OT, joker 1 rebound off another triple double and Westbrook with some big plays late on in the 4th quarter.
Lakers fall 95-117 at home to the timberwolves with great numbers throughout the team, antman leading the way again.
Big win for the clippers to make it 2-1 and OKC looking good for a clean sweep.
Lakers now 3-1 down after last night's 116-113 win for the Timberwolves.
🐜 With just the 43 9 6.
McDaniels also has been key to this series.
Knicks and Pacers ECF.
Timerberwolves waiting for either Denver or OKC who play game 7 tomorrow.
Yeah the Pacers have been sneaky quietly good for the last couple of seasons, I just don’t think they’ll be good enough to stop Minnesota or Oklahoma City in the finals.
Be a strange finals whatever happens if OKC beat Denver, none of the really big names in the finals regardless at that stage, no bad thing tbh, nice to see some younger teams coming through
Halftime in game 7. OKC 60-46 DEN, Nuggets started well and had a 21-10 lead then midway in the 1st the thunder came back and have dominated that half.
SGA with 12 Pts 3 Ast 3 Reb and Jokic with 17 Pts 3 Ast 6 Reb
Nuggets just not making them 3's and need more from Murray who has only 4 Pts 1 Ast 1 Reb.
Just watching the game 1 knicks pacers highlights. Halliburtons 3 that was actually a 2 to force OT was pretty amazing. Choking Knicks held big leads at various points in the 4th quarter.
Reggie seemed happy and the pacers like McD says quietly on the way for a finals with a 2-0 lead going back to Indiana.
SGA putting up some big numbers again for OKC who have been very strong all season, I'm still rooting for Antman with home court for the next 2 but will be a big game 3.
Was hoping there would be a game Sunday at a reasonable time but no, only problem with American sports with the time difference.
Fair play to OKC to making it 3-1 going into game 5 at home, SGA 1 rebound off a triple double with 40 10 9, was asked about fans calling him a free throw merchant says he couldn't care less.
And have now knocked out Minnesota, which is a bit of a shame, I like Antman.
I think the criticism of OKC at the moment is that SGA is flopping a fair bit and getting cheap free throws, whilst some of his teammates are being accused of playing extremely physical defence against this opponents and not getting whistled for it. From what I’ve seen there’s some validity to the argument, which is a shame as they’re also a very good basketball team.
I think they’ll easily win the finals against what’s looking like the pacers
Ooft. More Halliburton heroics. Pacers stun OKC in game one
Boring chat but I see Orlando Magic have changed their logo, similar to the Brentford, Man City badges to make teams easier to identify worldwide
Pacers with the win to make it 2-1.
2-2 now in the series, this is looking like its going to a game 7 decider.
Pacers make it 3-3 with game 7 on Sunday night/Monday morning.
