Have started my Wetherspoon's beer festival experience with Sir Ryan from a brewery in Leicester, very good especially at £2.15 a pint!
Ended up at a new restaurant in Dundee with the Wife tonight and they had both Heveleer and Anchor Steam (!!!) on tap.
Anchor is easily my favourite beer but it's almost impossible to get (apart from San Fran, where it's everywhere!).
Anchor Steam in bottles in creeping in. I've seen it in Mathers at the top of Broughton Street and in the Mash Tun.
I managed to get a case of 24 in Makro for 23 quid. It was incorrectly priced and should have been 32 quid :greengrin
Anyway, tonight's tipples are Stewarts 80 shilling in the Stable Bar and a bottle of Directors at home.
On the subject of the Stable Bar, the way the staff were talking it sounds like it's closing down.
Luvians in St Andrews used to do the bottles but it's an incredibly rare thing to find it on tap outside the USA (or more specifically, California).
Apparently, there's a pub near Clapham Junction that has it on tap along with an impressive array of other beers, so a trip looms large in the summer!
That's my Oktoberfest bier just gone into the fermenting bin. Hopefully in a month or so I'll find out just how good it is. :greengrin
The beer threads slipped onto page 2, booooo!:greengrin
I've moved onto summer season pilsner and pale ale mode mostly but got a bottle of irish stout from m&s tonight expecting it to be a slightly better guiness. Much better than that though, more like an improved march of the penguins and went down beautifully with some lamb and mash. Produced by the Carlow Brewing Company and well worth a look imo.
Was working in Stirling today and noticed an advert in the window of the Majestic wine warehouse,,, a 24 bottle box of Samuel Adams Boston lager for only £24,,,bought the one box but at that price I might buy a couple more, Mr Tesco's are charging nearly £2 a bottle, and we are hitting BBQ season!
My homebrewed oktoberfest bier has now been be bottled, kept in warm environment for two weeks and had a week conditioning in the garage. Another three weeks and it should be good to go.
I also started primary fermentation on a 40 pint kit of st Peter's ruby red ale at the weekend.
I'll be shaking like a *****t!ng dug by the time I've drunk all this 😁
I'm currently working on a micro brewery in the Bonnington area where you come in use the facilities & brew your own beer. Then come back when it's ready & collect your bottles & enjoy. It's not quite open yet but I'll certainly be using it & will pass on the details to anyone interested. An added bonus is you can sample on site.
Have a look at J2Brewing.com it's based on this & should be live within 4weeks. I'm planning a night down there with the boys booking the 6 brew stations & sampling as we go. Could be messy
Or here - http://www.971talk.com/glover/colomb...-at-j2-brewing
Not sure on the prices as it's still under construction. I know the bottles are expensive so bringing your own bottles when collecting will save a good few quid. I think you get around 90 half pint bottles for your brew or approx 50litres of wort. I'm looking forward to giving this a go as the set up looks really good. There will also be some vouchers nearer launch date so will post up before it kicks off. Must add
its nothing to do with me I'm merely doing the plumbing / gas work on the project & the guys are bang on & will appreciate the word getting spread.
Cracked open a few bottles of the honebrewed Oktoberfest bier at the weekend and by jove it's good stuff. Will use another 30% more sugar at bottling to give it a bit more fizz next time.
It's a beautiful amber colour and tastes a bit like paulaner but slightly maltier.
Homebrew is definitely the way forward. The only pain in the erchie is the waiting game.
Wee bump for this thread.
CAMRAs beer of the year announced:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-28769152
Brewery now open
http://www.kraftybrew.com
I've not been down yet myself but intend making a night of it with a few mates within next couple months.
The IPA is apparently very popular.
Fill yet boots (bottles) ;-)
If you get the chance to try the Siren and To Ol collab 10 Finger Discount then make sure you do. One of my IPAs of the year, it's aged in cedar wood and is simply superb. That being said, most of Siren's stuff now is really good.
After spending some time up in Boat on Garten last week I rekindled my love affair with possibly my favourite beer of all. Cairngorm Brewers 'Trade Winds' if you haven't sampled it get it down you. I cleared out the Tesco in Aviemore when I saw they had it on offer for £1.30 a bottle!!
I was in Croatia earlier this year and had a few bottles of San Servolo, really liked it, but haven't seen it over here. Anyone know if you can get it here?
Seems a suitable time to dig this thread back up. Was in cornelius earlier picking up some tasty beers for the next few days including this one. Bought it based on the name alone but it tastes pretty good too!

Tomorrow is a big day of beer for me. The beer cellar stretches back to AB:06 so we're gonna wire into some of the older ones.
This is what we've picked up for tomorrow:

Anybody tried beer52.com? Craft beer site that delivers a crate to you monthly, dunno how good value it is though TBH?
Tesco has Timothy Taylor Boltmaker at £1.65 a bottle at the moment. It's the current CAMRA Champion Beer of Great Britain.
Have it at room temperature and you won't be disappointed!
Just cracked open my first bottle of this stuff and its my best beer to date, superb stuff and very similar to goose island ipa. 40 pints for £22 can't be bad although the 7 week wait is the difficult bit. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05...e1e694d2d4.jpg
Just back from Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Beer Geeks paradise and tickets galore, but one of the best weekends ever.
3 Floyds Dark Lord, Cigar City Hunahpu's, Westbrook BA Mexican Cake, as well as an abundance of world class sours. Best £200 I've ever spent.
Ive just poured a bottle of drygate crossing the rubicon and the whole things full of yeast. Not a bit at the bottom of the bottle, the whole pint glass is sparkled with the stuff all over. Ive never came across this before, is it intentinal or off?
Anyone ever tried some of the Alaskan Brewing Co beers? Brewed in the capital Juneau. I'm just back from Alaska and their beers along with some of the more local brewers offerings were fantastic.
Planning to start a homebrew project very soon - also building a pizza oven for my garden so planning on treating visitors to the NH residence to home made beer and home made pizza later in the year.
Anyone with advice on where to start in sourcing homebrew stuff? Anyone done it before?
Edit: also been drinking two very good beers recently, one is a smoked German beer with a really meaty, smoked bacon flavour;http://images1.phoenixnewtimes.com/i...erla-fowle.jpg
And Gooseberry Cove - a sour pale ale from Buxton flavoured with gooseberry. Fantastically refreshing sour beer.

in Aberdeen
http://www.highergroundshop.co.uk/
there is also one on King Street Aberdeen.
You owe me a pint
It's surprisingly easy, and quite satisfying. The only tedious bit is cleaning the bottles.
This stuff, if done properly is superb. It's very much a clone of goose island ipa and my last batch tipped the scales at 6.5%

Jarl from Loch Fyne Brewery is pretty decent stuff.
Inns and Gunn just announced the purchase of Inveralmond Brewery
Just had a lovely pint of This Is Lager in brewdog Soho served by Calvin of these boards. Nice pint.
Maybe more a bar/pub question than beer specifically but I've just moved to Glasgow - recommendations for the best place to get a good pint of beer?
I don't know glasgow pubs very well but the one place I've been that i particularly enjoyed was the west brewery beerhall. On the edge of glasgow green i think and they serve all their own beers, st mungo, wild west, dunkel etc which are brewed on site. You can see the brewing equipment downstairs and I'm told it's heaving outside in good weather (it was hosing down the day i was there naturally :greengrin ). Good food too :aok:
Depends where you are.
I've not lived here for that long but central choices for a good beer for me usually are Max's on Queen St or The Drum & Monkey. Fly and The Pig is also quite good, but my memories of being there are rather hazy.
West end you have Brewdog, Lebowskis, Three Judges on dumbarton rd, loads on and around Byers Rd and Ashton Lane - I quite enjoy The Wee Pub.
Cheers both. I'm actually living in Lanark but we're in Glasgow everyday for work up at the West End and then centre on the way home. Once the house is unpacked, we're looking to explore some tippling establishments, so the recommendations are welcome! :aok:
This is my go to/if all else fails/treat myself/I don't mind if I do/lose, draw, win/ cheers - thank fck I'm a Hibbie, favourite beer. Slightly chilled it's like an explosion of citrus fruit in yir mooth.
Lager cannae touch it on a hot day.
And I pass the brewery every time I head east.
In addition to the others mentioned, there's the Bon Accord between the Mitchell Theatre and West Coast Harley which is one of Glasgow's oldest real ale bars.
In the West End you've got Tennents at the junction of Byres Road and Highburgh Road (which, despite the name sells decent beer), the Ubiquitous Chip (in Ashton Lane behind Byres Road) which is a famed eatery cum bar frequented by quite a smart set, and Oran Mor at the top of Byres Road which is a good place for a night out. The clientèle is quite varied at times (think actors/musos/ broadcasters, rugby players) but it's usually busy and there's a reasonable selection of beers.
Right...here goes.
Not usually a big drinker but for some reason I've been drinking every weekend since the 21 May :greengrin:greengrin:greengrin
Hit a bit of a brick wall now. I know I’ll get lambasted for this but I love Budweiser. Sorry.
Recently I drank quite a lot of mixed fruit ciders but I was drinking it last night and I've hit a wall. Bagged up and didn't really enjoy it. Now I feel rough!
I need a new drink but not a fan of gin so I'm avoiding the whole craze for it just now. Wine gives me heartburn so that's ruled out.
Might go back to Bud but open to offers. Quite like a Cearars Augusta (is that it). Will be drinking in places like the Dockers and the Hibs Club so nothing too funky!
Also, anyone know of any shops or bars in Edinburgh that stocks Mickeys beer? The House of Pain used to go on about it and randomly back in the nineties Scotmid used to stock it. Small, screw cap 5.5% lager that was pretty decent.
Cheers!
I remember that stuff!
I had been banging onto someone a few weeks ago about the beer that used to come in a little green jar and that must have been it (when I googled it I saw that it came in a "wide-mouthed" bottle).
I remember drinking it quite a lot when I'd just moved up to Dundee in 1995.
I'm afraid I can't help you locating it here though.
The best beer I've drunk in recent years is "Shiner Bock". I was over visiting my girlfriend's brother and his family in Houston a couple of years ago - it's all over the place there.
Brilliant beer, I've been craving it.
Need to get back over for another visit I think.
Enjoy Brewdog s Punk I P A

Quite liked the cans from vocation brewery over the last year. Was surprised to see tesco stocking there american pale ale, hopefully theyl gwt their ipa's next.
When we were in the Lake District we had a beer called Elephant's Backside. It tasted great.
Its maybe not what you are looking for but I brew my own ginger beer. I live in Thailand so ginger costs nothing. It is so simple and I have adjusted it to my taste.I much prefer it to the usual beers here (which are pretty decent as far as lagers go). I dont even bother with fancy bottles or anything. If you want info just pm me and Ill give you more details.
First time visit to The Antiquary on St Stephen Street over the holidays, I loved it and enjoyed several pints of East Coast IPA.
My regular beers are from Strathbraan Brewery.
Go West, Look East, Due South, True North with Eighty Bob a good ale.
I'm not sure where else they are available, but the Old Mill in Pitlochry usually have one or tow on tap, rotating with guest ales such as Cromarty Brewery.
I've been drinking loads of Fierce beers lately, based in Dyce.
Their fruit beer is superb. Personal favourites from their range are Cranachan Killer and Ginja Ninja
Not everyone's cup of tea I know, but I really enjoy the brew dog pale ale selection in cans. Take it on the train with me every month, a lovely drink in my opinion.
I'd suggest a trip to Wellington, NZ for any craft beer aficionado. Panhead APA and IPA are delightful.
As a coeliac I would recommend Vagabond by Brewdog.

Anyone else tried Shilling Brewing Co. in Glasgow yet?
Rapidly becoming one of my favourite brewpubs in Glasgow! Their on-site production beers are excellent and the food (specialising in stone-fired pizzas) is very good, and reasonable!
Tempest - drop kick me jesus. Realy nice sour with citrus and tropical fruits.
Had a realy nice banoffe one by tiny rebel recently as well.
I had a pint of Tiny Rebel Cwtch recently. It won CAMRA's champion beer a couple of years ago and was very enjoyable, a hoppy red ale.
It looks like my other half is forcing me to go to the Hanging Bat on Wednesday
Was given a couple of sample bottles from Inveralmond Brewery. Currently drinking Ossian a golden ale, pretty decent.
Had a couple of pints of Wychwood King Goblin @ Wetherspoon's Beer Fest yesterday, pretty strong but, went down very nicely.
Went to the heriot watt beer festival on friday where they had an excellent choice. Stand outs were apa's by weird beared and leeds.Cardoman sour by chorlton was pretty decent as well. Had 80 taps with a £1.50 token getting a half pint, a limited number of the beers came in thirds. Definitely reconmend it for anyone whos no been before.
Anyone going to the festival at the biscuit factory on Cup final weekend? Looks pretty good and I just happen to be in town.
I realy enjoyed the festival on saturday night, everything about it was excellent. Hopefully it returns next year. I might even go for a full weekend ticket.
