Has anyone scored a hat trick at ER against them since? I know Joe Harper's credited with a hat trick in LC final but those of us who were there know it was 2 at most.

By the time they cordoned the Cave off ,put benches in and increased prices ..the Cave was rarely full once that happened.
i had by then drifted to main terracing and sometimes North Enclosure.(older bams there than in the old Cave !)
The match in question...
There was a bit of battling that day,(not unusual back then) but not sure thats the reason for gaps in the Cave.
It was a significant match for oldco,so a lot of Hibby's might have just given it a miss that day.
Remember the foot stomp in the main stand. Helped with the atmosphere.
Still miss the old North stand and some of the characters who frequented it. Had a season book in there for a good few years before moving to other parts of the ground.
Have kept my first few season books from '71 onwards. The first one cost me £6. Always kept the same seat - row C seat 58.

I am sure that I read in one of the Hibs books that the 1923 cup final was the tipping point as to when Celtic finally became the Irish people's club. Up until then many weegie Irish people still followed Hibs but a lack of ambition from us spelt the change.
Hibs were on a mission to claim their place as the Premier Irish club in Scotland
This was the perfect opportunity to start this process against the upstart offspring Celtic
Hibs had played all their matches in the tournament in Edinburgh winning a tight semifinal 1-0 against Third Lanark at Tynecastle
Hibs took 13000 through to Glasgow for the final with a further 17000 from the West boosting their number to 30000 to cheer on the original greens
Hibs were the better team in the first half but couldn’t make the breakthrough The second half started in the same format but Celtic had their spell of pressure and scored from a corner
Hibs’ curse struck in the last minute when a goalbound shot struck a Celtic hand on the goalline The Hibs players appealed for a penalty but the Referee refused to give it
Not for the first time Hibs just never got the luck they needed
Hibs would return to Hampden one season later only to lose to Airdrieonians

The cup replay against Aberdeen led to a change in the rules. We listed McLeod and one other(maybe Campbell)as 12 and 14 -the accepted numbers for subs on the team sheet but they were in the starting 11. The Pat Stanton Final
Hibs finally got a deserved revenge for the 6-1 humiliation in May at Hampden with an outstanding performance
Skipper Pat Stanton inspiring his team from midfield instigating wave after wave of attack with his driving runs leading by example scoring the first and laying on the second for his old Holy Cross Academy pal Jimmy O’Rourke
Hibs had chances to add to their score with Billy McNeil clearing a drive off the line from Alan Gordon and even although King Kenny pulled one back for the champions in 73 minutes HIBS held out for a deserved victory
After the match Celtic Manager Jock Stein personally stood and congratulated every HIBS player and shook each one by the hand as they left the field
Probably the highlight of my HIBS supporting career a brilliant performance against a very good Celtic side
Scottish Cup win as well of course

9/12/1970 Inter Cities Fairs Cup Round 3 Leg 1
Hibernian 0 v 1 Liverpool
Hibs had replaced Willie MacFarlane before kick-off with former Man City Coach Dave Ewing
Top scorer Joe McBride was relegated to the bench and fans’ favourite Johnny Graham was nowhere to be seen
HIBS started well and were denied a stonewall penalty when Larry Lloyd blatantly pulled back Kenny Davidson inside the box The Referee ignored furious claims from the HIBS players and fans and waved play on
Hibs had chances to score but ultimately they came to nothing
The fans got their wish and Joe McBride was introduced with half an hour remaining After five minutes Arthur Duncan bulleted home a header from an Eric Stevenson cross but the goal was unfairly disallowed as the Referee claimed that Joe McBride had fouled Ray Clemence in the build up to the goal a claim McBride later denied in the dressing room after the game
On 75 minutes going down the slope Steve Heighway used his searing pace to hit the byline a low hard ball across goal a slip by Jim Black “Toshack!” 1-0 Liverpool

If I recall, Big John was called up by a few of his team mates to take a penalty...., which he duly hit straight at the goalie.
