I’ve always felt Willie Macfarlane never got the credit he deserved for building the foundations of what became the Tornadoes, and I don’t think his exit from the club was handled well to bring in Eddie Turnbull. Had us top of the league signed Arthur, Shades and Johnny Graham

Heard he was also a very funny guy

Yes his departure was badly handled by Tom Hart coming at an inopportune moment

Willie didn’t have the bookies business while he was Hibs manager. He did have a plant hire business in Ballantyne Road which was very successful and somebody ran that for him while he was manager.His downfall was all to do with not letting Tom Hart pick the team and it gave Hart the opportunity to bring his pal Eddie in once he got rid of Dave Ewing.

Was a strange one Tom Hart wanted to pick the team and he wanted Joe McBride Snr and Johnny Graham dropped for our biggest game of the season against Liverpool Willie refused and was replaced by Dave Rangers are rubbish Ewing

Joe McBride was a prolific goalscorer who ended up starting on the bench I think Tom Hart was unhappy about his refusal to move through to Edinburgh from Glasgow
