It wasn't. Uk is one of the most multicultural nations on earth unlike Germany then, UKs gdp is expected to grow 2% every one of the next 5 years, inflation is expected to be low the next 4 years, unemployment is tiny, immigration is at record levels, anti immigration sentiment has dropped in each of the last 10 years in the biggest poll and we are about to vote out the tories probably by a decent amount

Germany and especially Berlin was a magnet for foreigners between the wars. There was an air of decadence after the fall of the Kaiser and thinkers and artists flooded the country and not only despite the finacial woes but probably because of them the population decided to party rather than save. Germany was the place to party in the early 1920's. Germany would actually have thrived if it wasn't for the war reparations they were having to pay back. After a short while of optimism the inevitable slump came and the thinkers, artists and Jews were the easy victims to blame for the disastrous finacial circumstances of the war that Germany had only itself to blame.

Let's see who the UK natives blames for the disaster that Brexit will bring in the coming years, my money is on foreigners, socialists and liberals. If you know your history then that's a pretty safe bet.

I've said it before but the Conservatives have created, to date, 2 generations now with little to conserve.

The reason many drifted right as they aged is that they wanted to preserve their own little dynasty for the next generation of their family. That just won't exist to anything like the same extent when today's 20, 30 and 40 year olds reach retirement age.

Of course that's not to dismiss the danger of people being attracted to scapegoating and the lure of simple answers to complex problems. We have a whole industry paying big money to people to pump out right wing populism.

Germanys unemployment rate pre nazis hit 30%, uks is 4% and stable

Germanys economy shrunk a third of the size before the Nazis. UKs even with brexit is expected to grow by 2% each year

Anti immigrant thoughts are shrinking year on year in the uk, the youth aren't turning right and the voters are going to vote out the most right wing choice. I'm an optimist change will come from the youth not turning right

It baffles me why tories didn't put all their efforts into house building, although I understand it goes against their core voters being nimbys but it's so short sighted for them.

They have ensured people don't have anything to conserve as you say or pass down, they are also spewing racism to a much more multicultural group. They are just playing to older groups which works just now as they are the ones who vote, let's see if the the young stay left as they age further

Your faith in Britain's post Brexit economy is optimistic. The economy has already shrunk 5%. Germany's hyperinflation lasted 3 years and started to recover around 1924/25.

The timelines don't have to be identical, but once fascism has has become socially acceptable (it has in the UK), then it is impossible to be put back in its box until it's too late.

The UK is dependent on foreign investment just like the German one that was slowly recovering from the hyperinflation of the Weimar Republic. It's true that the German economy was struggling as the Naziz came to power but that was due to it’s dependence on foreign investment that collapsed after the crash in 1929 and not because of the hyperinflation of the Weimar Republic which was brought under control almost a decade before the Nazis came to power.

The UK economy, like the German economy in the late 29's and early 30's relies on foreign investment because we are dependent on our service industry rather than anything we produce. If other countries start tightening the purse strings then we will feel it most, the whole economy is a house of cards and due to Brexit that house is slowly crumbling.

Yeah their future estimate is less 1% growth per year. Although they haven't used our revised up figures for the last 3 years. Also they estimate 0.4% growth in 23 it's been 0.6% in the first 6 months and is expected to grow the other 2 so pessimistic

Uk economy is by no means in great shape as the growth will be low 1-2%

I'm simply drawing parallels to a time where Germany thought it was on the mend, the war was over, the economy was growing, the youth were devouring philosophy, the arts and foreign literature. Berlin was buzzing, the clubs and theatres were packed with revellers and the youth were carefree and decadent and then boom, the depression of 1929 hit and Germany suffered most because its economy was built on foreign investment which got pulled overnight.
