Fair point but I think you’re being a bit generous to the press here. Yes they have reported the stories but they don’t press it home when the minister involved tries to shut them down. When have you heard journos standing up and trying to ask questions repeatedly? There’s no scent of blood as you’d imagine there would be in other scenarios.

To be fair Channel 4 news tried, they now get blanked at press briefings and the government rarely seems to put ministers up for questioning in any of their news/current affairs programming, other press folks seem silent on the matter and appear to give the government a less torrid time these days (probably not wanting the same treatment).

Maybe the difference is a lack of a modern day Max Clifford.

If there was even the hint of a scandal (and money to be made from it), he was on it full-throttle.

The public have all stopped buying papers and want all their news for free. That comes at a price. News is now paid for buy the big corporations and they are not going to shine a light on themselves.

What is condemned as corruption in developing countries is called 'lobbying' here. There must be a complete overhaul of the lobbying system as part over an overhaul of the political system. The likes of Cameron believe they are entitled to use their influence for their personal gain; that the political system is there for their benefit, just another component of the privilege they are entitled to from birth.

i'm hoping this could maybe backfire on them either way, if they lose=another bloody nose after Joanna cherry's case, win= the Scottish public will then see for themselves Holyrood can only pass bills if Westminster agrees with them

The conduct of the current gang is going to make call me Dave look like a paragon of virtue and integrity if there is ever a proper enquiry into Covid related contracts and how and to whom they were awarded.

This means that you can guarantee Bozo will ensure a very restricted enquiry, carried out by a hand picked leader will keep the lid on this and protect business as usual for the Nasty Party and chums.

i was reading yesterday the tories sent out a junior minister the other day at Westminster to take questions instead of Sunak....they just can't take searching questions can they, and when they are on the front bench they have Johnson's deputy PM Starmer nodding his head with whatever they're lying about :rolleyes:

In March this year, Topwood Limited were awarded two NHS contracts worth a total of £300k.

Topwood Limited also just happen to be owned by Mr Hancock's sister.

As often happens, the journalist looks at the top line, and doesn't ask the right questions.

For one thing, there's no evidence that Hancock has been "handed" those shares. There have been shares transferred to him, sure, but there are no details of how much he paid for them. That won't be in the public domain, but a decent journalist would have asked the question.

Secondly, they need new batteries in their calculator. It's actually 20%.

But has the journalist done any actual in-depth investigation and asked the pertinent questions? It doesn't look like it to me; they have looked at the public domain, put 2 and 2 together and, (with the help of a dodgy calculator)..... etc etc. :greengrin

Edit. Another point to note is that this is an NHS Wales contract, ie one over which MH would/should have no influence.
