The lad has made a mistake, he's not a terrible human being for doing what he did but he wasn't allowed to do it and he should have known better even at 19. Is 6 games a bit severe? Maybe a little, but that's the way it goes at the moment. The lad had an outside chance of the Euro's because of his age and his position, but ultimately if his actions are what cost him a seat on the metaphorical plane then it's a lesson he'll need to learn for his career and life going forward.
His career won't suffer because of this suspension and Gerrard needs to reign it in a bit and accept it for what it is. If Gerrard thinks he's good enough then he'll play him next season when his suspension is up.
