Most definitely. I used to slag off folk that drunk the na stuff but now I've seen myself drink it quite a bit of it instead of reaching for the standard soda and lime.

Used to be a Becks blue only in most bars or you got the old 'water only' response. Now you'll normally find at least 3 of 4 on the menu and even na cocktails, pushing it a bit now though 😁

I’ve not had an alcoholic drink this year. Nothing deliberate, just not had the opportunity or wanted/ needed one. My wee brother is getting married tomorrow though and I’m already fearing the hangover on Friday.

2 and a bit weeks without a bet too. F me, life is getting dull.

It definitely has.
You probably had a Becks blue, as that’s all that the bars seemed to stock for a few years .. and I think it’s rotten.
I suspect lots of breweries now trying to get into the non-alcoholic market, I reckon it’s going to become a growing trend as people start to cut back on their alcohol intake.

Here is a small selection of the sort of thing available these days.

I had a couple of pints at the weekend as got engaged & locals wanted to get me a guinness or two..Folk ask if i feel better for not drinking & i say i don’t really notice it energy wise. That’s until i do have a pint and realise that there’s a definite dampener on the day after. A good reminder to keep it going.

For me a dash of lime can make a non-alcoholic beer seem palatable, Furstenberg especially.

I would hate it if I had to give up alcohol. Only drink about 8 330ml cans a week these days if I'm not out (and I'm not out much) but there's so much choice nowadays in the likes of Aldi and Lidl so you never get bored. I'd be thoroughly miserable without my beer :greengrin

That's an interesting point.

I never drink in the house as I just find it totally boring and I'm not out a lot for various reasons at the moment. I don't notice a huge difference day to day but I do notice how utterly awful drinking makes me feel when I do it. Sluggish, lethargic and demotivated; the day after is as good as a write off even if I only have 3 or 4 pints.

The other thing I always find when I stop drinking for a while is how ridiculously amusing the amount we consume is. When you go out and don't drink very few people down 8 cans of coke or 10 soda & limes but people think nothing of knocking back that many pints. It's the same quantity of liquid but we have totally different views on how much to consume.

I would think stretching it out lightly like that for 15 units isn't actually bad at all. Probably better than skulling 10 units in a night!

Alcohol-free beer is pretty disgusting generally. I don't see the point in it. It's not cheap either!

This is an interesting point and one I agree with.

When everyone puts their units down they realise how quickly their ‘allowance’ is used up.

We drink far too much.

Suppose it’s the old boiling a frog thing..I certainly notice today i’m more lethargic and i been a couple of runs that didn’t feel right. Even went for a swim in the sea to shock myself into action :-) That didn’t work.

I was always able to justify it as it was just a couple a day, no kids, social side in village, doing plenty of other things that were good for the body.

End of the day i was getting signals it wasn’t good for me but didn’t notice them.

Unless it's a special occasion or I'm at football I only drink on a Saturday. Just done the online calculator and my normal Saturday is around 26 units split over an 8 hour period. How some of you are adveraging 90 units a week is beyond me. I'm like a burst ball on a Sunday.

I'm usually the same, except I keep myself to about 12 on a Saturday. 26 units is about 14 or 15 cans of Tennents!

There was a program with Adrian Chiles on the BBC where he looked at his drinking, and his average was round about 90-100 a week. He basically just had a bottle of wine or so every night with dinner and then a few before the WBA games, then a session after.

Mounts up pretty quickly.

When you look at it as 14/15 cans of Tennents then it seems a lot, no way I could actually do that. Think I would burst lol. Usually only have a couple of beers though. Rest is mainly made up of red wine, couple of crabbies ginger beers and some jagerbombs. The red wine is the problem. Must do 2 bottles easy on a Saturday night.

You're right. Wine is strong stuff and easy to drink.
Tennents lager isn't strong. It's pretty weak stuff compared to some, and no match for the wine.

Just resurrecting an old thread to see how folk are finding their drinking habits changing during the lockdown. Personally I imagine we'll have quite a backlog of bottles once the blue box recycling collection starts up again! After a day of trying to keep the kids active and entertained it's hard to deny yourself a drink once the evening comes around.

On a more serious note, there must be concern about the impact the lockdown will have on problem drinkers and indeed whether some folk will start to develop drinking problems.

In the two weeks since the pubs were shut and since staying at home I've drunk precisely two bottles of beer, last weekend. I have beer in the house, other stuff too. From going out several nights a week previously I just seem to have lost interest in alcohol and I didn't particularly see that coming nor plan for it. indeed, I bought beer in a couple of weeks ago. Not that it's a bad thing of course.

i live alone and I'm not sure if that's a factor, drinking just feels a bit 'pointless' come the eveneings. I think it's very much a social habit for me.

I’m drinking less. Never drink during the week, when I’m at home, and I’m keeping it that way through this.

Had a few bottles last night. Will have a few bottles tonight.

But if Hibs were at home today I’d be 3 or 4 pints before the game and the same again (at least) after. If Hibs were away, I’d have been on the train opening my first can at some point this morning.

I've not been too well since 24th March (coming out the other side now), had a good bash at the whisky last Saturday night when my mum died, not had a drop since. That may change tonight.

I normally have a beer when I get in from work. I'm still doing so even though I'm already in.

I've had 3 virtual aperitifs with mates in 3 weeks and I've another lined up for tonight (which could last a bit).

A couple of events where I would have had a good skinful have been cancelled, so my total intake is probably well down on what it would have been.
