Would love him to stay another year. Playing in Europe you need quality coming off the bench, also need to keep Junior another year. We will need a bigger squad for the two games a week. All the Hibees love Gayle

What a finish though, sheer class!
Speaking of class, LOVE Hibs tweet 'The Legendary Dwight Gayle'. Correct!
As soon as he opened up his body I instantly said “goal.”
He is class.
Boy is 35 and has played at the very top level and he comes on as a sub for us and runs about like a teenager making his debut.
Absolutely love his attitude.
He’s just so classy. Can see a mile away he’s played at the very top of the game and gutted he’s away to retire, but what a career and a brilliant contribution to us.
These kind of signings have really worked for Hibs over recent years.
Dwight hasn't actually played in Europe for any of his teams so if we qualify, maybe he may fancy a wee European cameo, that might make all the difference to him staying on
Fantastic to see him score today and if he doesn't have a change of mind about quitting I'm sure he's going to end his career on a real high.
What a comparison to some of the washed up pish we used to sign from down South. So humble and has such a great attitude.
Form is temporary- class is permanent.
The guy is unreal - delighted he got another goal.
Think he has another few in him before the season is over.
Odd to think his final ever goals in his career could be for Hibs.
Says a lot when a lot of the team are commenting on his Instagram post today asking for one more year. Legend.
He's come up here with a fantastic attitude. And even though he's probably struggling physically has contributed significantly this season
A positive looking forward is, when older pros down south might be considering options, they can talk with Dwight about how you can come up here, contribute and be a part of something special
He's a class act
Brilliant finish today.
It will be interesting what happens re his contract.
Obviously the squad love him and our squad cohesion is a massive part of our success. However as a business decision is it the right thing to do?
36 later this year and says he’s feeling his body a lot more and that he also wants to move back home. Unable to play more than 60 minutes and will likely just be an impact sub. Would it be more effective use of the money trying to get a striker in their prime who will play more?
However - 23 games, 5 goals and 4 assists. Goal involvement every 2. Something games is incredible for an impact player. Plus what he offers in experience, composure and actual ability when he gets a chance.
I’ll be gutted if he isn’t here next season.
The hand grenade celebration was excellent.
The little touch to nick the ball past Sylla to give himself time and space for the shot on goal was exquisite. Just the faintest of touches to change the angle and get past the man, it was a joy to watch. He then made the rest look easy and just stroked the ball into the far corner. He’s a class player who we should enjoy for the rest of his time at the club.
Classy player, he can turn a game in a matter of seconds with his quick thinking and game intelligence, his goals v hearts and Dundee just shows he doesnt need to be on the pitch for 90 mins, if he has clever and energetic players around him then he will show his class as he did when receiving Bowies pass.
There was a point yesterday I think just before he scored, he chased almost back to half way line to press and made a tackle, the ball hit the Dundee player for a throw in to Hibs, Miller, I think then went to take a quick throw in and his grimace as he then realised he had to get back on his toes to get back towards the box was visible, but he did, and he was off.
You just knew he was going to score when he moved the ball, fantastic talent and another that just seems to be enjoying his time currently.
Gayle has done exactly what you want from someone like him coming in. Being there as a third or fourth pick he is absolutely brilliant. He’s only actually played 831 minute for us but contributed 5 goals and 4 assists. Some of them have been very important as well. The assist for Rocky v Aberdeen, the equaliser v Ross County right on half time (things could have been very different without that), winner at Tynecastle and got us a point at St Johnstone.
Guys quality , his finish yesterday was top drawer …

Great movement from Gayle for the goal, has definitely proved his worth this season and still a few more games to go.
Did get a chuckle at his celebration 💣
I was amazed that he was doing a ‘warm down’ after the match yesterday, that appeared very energetic. Maybe there’s life in the old dog yet!
I'm in two minds. He's been a more than worthy addition and has contributed very well, so I'd be happy to see more of him, esp if we get to Europe.
But at the same time, I assume he's one of the highest earners at the club, and the money we're spending on him could go a long way to top-ups or extensions for other players who are equally valuable but have more years left.
That SOL versus Hearts when the players ran towards the East Gayle seemed to be really enjoying it and lapping it up with a wee run and leap and a GIRFUY towards the Hearts
Think he will defo retire but goes with our best wishes
Welcome back anytime
Legend
None of us regulars are professional footballers I assume, but many of us over 35 know that feeling when five a side bumps and bruises are harder to recover from, or when you reduce your 10k to a 5k because your knees are aching and you start to make buying ibuprofen one of your weekly chores :greengrin. A lot of players suffer from pain at the end of their careers and only he can really know. Hes been a sensational signing regardless, seems a good egg too
His movement before he received the ball when he scored was class. A 10 yard burst of pace to come short dragged SP-H with him but as the ball was played beyond him to Bowie, he turns in a flash, knowing the space is there in behind him and he can then receive the ball from Bowie's touch inside in a far more dangerous area. Nice touch to nick it from Sylla and a lovely composed finish but it was that initial run and turn that impressed me most about that goal. SP-H never recovered to a point where he could make a challenge. Very smart thinking from a guy who is operating several steps ahead.
Seems the players (including rocky ans boyle who are out of contract…) are at him on insta asking for 1 more year. Would imagine theyre on at him at training too, hopefully caves and decides to give us another year
Don’t know if anyone else noticed him going mad at Campbell in about the 90th minute on Sunday. He’d given the ball away trying to play a pass that wasn’t really on. Once the ball had went dead, Gayle went looking for him. 4-0 up, 90th minute but still looking for things to be done right.
Anyone know if there are any little hints that he could postpone his retirement for another season?
I want him to remain as a player, love his football intelligence, but if he is set on retiring, I cannot think of a better coach for our young strikers.
perhaps a scout/coach position could be offered?
