Just got results, wife is positive, I’m negative. I work for the NHS so I’ve still to go to work, getting public transport. But I’ve to isolate when not at work? Work that one out.

You must be on the wind up🤣🤣🤣
He made a very fair point, why have we got thousands indoors in very busy shopping centers using public transport etc but 500 fans at an outdoor football match. You don’t need to have a scientific background to know that is total bull****.
I'm guessing because shutting down that sector potentially decimates hundreds of thousands of jobs
And with no forthcoming furlough....
I'm sure the science for stopping the spread of a highly transmissible disease would be simply close everything and keep everyone in there homes
Its the government's job to try and strike a balance between the 2 extremes

Because the needs of the wider public are served by shops and entertainment venues are simply not as important. Harsh truth. It’s a choice which was not opposed by any of the leaders in parliament who are likely fully briefed on what is actually happening in our critical services.
His complaint is why them and no me. The answer, pandemic, lots of folk not at work and some of the other things being more important.

Not sure of the veracity of the various slightly sensationalist reports of this but I'm left not sure what to think of it.
Cards on the table I'm treble jabbed having pretty much sought the vaccinations out at the earliest convenience but there is something about this that leaves me feeling slightly uncomfortable. I'm aware that nobody would be being forced here but nevertheless...
'Door-to-door teams armed with Covid jabs will be sent to the homes of unvaccinated Britons in plans being considered by Ministers'

There was.no balance though. They closed down an outside activity already under control of vaccine passport and previously reduced attendance measures (eg 25%, masks, one way system, no food etc)……… but let an indoor activity remain untouched? They could have found a “proportionate” answer but instead said **** you to that sector (who are businesses as well remember) and who provide a huge release for people struggling eg mental health and isolation.
They then admitted there was no science behind the 500 number (Leitch). They did it on a whim, didn’t even acknowledge the impact and didn’t provide a single price of data to back it up at the time or afterwards. The deputy FM then made a comment about regretting the cup final going ahead as it was a potential super spreader. Again no data and frankly just amateur comments.
Let’s see how we feel when we are begging this lot to let’s us have a few thousand fans at a game early spring.
You have to remember the Scottish government don’t have a blank cheque to bail out all sectors affected by an imposed reduction in trading. Sports and football in particular will be a best use of limited funds with best effect for reduced transmission. There won’t be a science reason for 500 but there will be a financial one. Most clubs in Scotland will probably be able to function normally at that number. I’m not sure we should be taking it personally. Rugby is in the same boat. Night clubs too.
We had a twice daily update from NS and finance minister about the inability to borrow and the new money/old money financials. We all had to be dragged on that roller coaster when it should just be sorted.
I have no issues with decisions when they are made. I expect especially almost two years into this that the Scot Govt can provide some level of rationale and consistency. We have gone from 100 to zero over night re crowds. It could and will likely take months to get back to the same levels as before. I can’t wait to see the data, science and insight on that path.
The virus shows no level of consistency. This mutation different from the last and that one different from the one previous to that. Decisions are made as and when they are needed. In truth probably too late in most cases. It’s not just about slowing down transmission it’s also about keeping essential services going and for that matter the economy. All as best as can be but with one hand on the financial rudder tied behind their back. It literally can’t be just sorted.
Looks like England are going ahead with an unrestricted new year according to reports. It will be interesting on how both the Scottish and Welsh governments deal with the backlash if this happens.
I know what you mean but England and especially London currently has highest infection rate. They would argue 3 nations went early and before studies on milder impacts came out. We were told it was doubling every 2 ish days. It doesn’t look anything like that unless we think the official figures are underestimated. Time will tell but even NS will struggle to argue a case for a proportionate set of restrictions in Scotland (500 fans) versus England (full attendances).
Most folk I know are just going to get on with New Year, most goingout to house parties etc, the mixed messages of the UK and Scottish goverments kind of just confirms to people that nobody is in line with each other with one lot saying the data says this and the other something different.
England will be encouraged by the hospital numbers London is by far the most unvaccinated. Icu very flat their and hospital numbers aren't rising in line with if it was a delta wave.
Looks to have peaked around a week ago there. Also reading it looks to have peaked in Denmark but sweeden a week away. Think we might be close to peak, that means numbers rising for another week on the dashboard.
Think your always better playing it safe than sorry, but waiting for the peak to happen before restrictions is mental
The prime minister is due to be briefed on the latest Covid data as he weighs whether to impose additional measures in England before the new year.
