Santa finds a new way to visit kids in hospital this year. Love that somebody had this idea.

I am afraid to say that after a long weekend of going to pubs, I have come down with a nasty hangover
Joking aside, apologies if my earlier posts were a bit glib, was more out of frustration at the idea that it could be the last weekend of normality than anything else. Good to see we're stepping up boosters, definitely useful that Scotland is starting from such a strong base too
I was talking to someone in work this morning about the 'get boosted now' campaign or whatever it is called.
For all there is an element of the usual Boris bluster and a worry about over promising and under delivering, it's still a positive move imo. We probably won't meet the target of vaccinating everyone eligible by December 31st. The logistical challenge is huge even with the new support announced and there is also the issue that anyone testing positive now won't be able to receive a booster until January anyway. However accelerating the vaccination programme and aiming to do 1 million a day ultimately should see more people get a booster quicker than they otherwise would have even allowing for the fact we will almost certainly miss the target set.
I also think there is an element of 'the balls in your court' at play. There was a lot of talk about this being a UK wide effort. I suspect there may be a watch and wait period to see how many people come forward for boosters quickly. If we really kick on we might just about be able to avoid anything resembling a full lockdown. If uptake is sluggish then we will get a 'you had your chance' speech. It also wouldn't surprise me to see increasing restrictions placed on those who choose not to get vaccinated at all. On a societal level I have no real desire to see mandatory vaccination or an 'apartheid' lockdown. On a personal, some may say selfish, level I have done my bit with vaccinations thus far and am quite literally desperate to get my booster. As covid becomes a severe disease primarily in the unvaccinated why should I be subjected to increased restrictions, lose my job or have to cancel my wedding to protect someone who has chosen not to get vaccinated for whatever reason? If vaccination is a choice then fine, I accept that but all kinds of choices we make have consequences.
Managed to book my booster for 22nd December. For that that have had it, did you feel crap after similar to the 1st/2nd dose?
Yousuf saying new restrictions tomorrow are ‘inevitable’
I really wish him and Swinney and a few others would keep their traps shut until there is something concrete to say.
For any faults she has, perceived or otherwise, the FM generally delivers clear and concise messaging as and when she has something to say that is worth us hearing. 'Restrictions are inevitable but I can't go into detail' is a nothing statement that almost reads as 'I know something you don't know'. It leads to worry, stress and speculation for people and businesses already staring over a cliff edge. If you can't say anything then don't. 'Discussions are ongoing and I wouldn't like to make any statements that might make things unclear at this time' is a better comment than the one he gave.
I'm not her biggest fan by any means but God help us if Nicola Sturgeon steps aside anytime soon and one of this mob has to step up to the plate.
Couldn’t agree more. For those of us concerned for our livelihoods what the hell does he think he’s achieving by saying that? All he’s doing is creating another 24 hours of stress for everyone. The guy’s an incompetent fool who’s been promoted way beyond his competency, you can add Swinney into that as well.
Sadly so many in the higher reaches of the SNP are like that.
Definitely a case of who you know rather than actual talent in many areas.
And I say that as a SNP voter/Independence supporter.
I won't be voting in them council elections as I feel they need a wake-up call...

I'm getting a wee bit concerned about the booster situation tbh - due to an exchange on WhatsApp with a few mates who I go to Scotland games with.
As a health worker, I got my booster back at the start of November.
There was quite a lot of hesitancy within this group about getting a booster. Everybody is double vaccinated and feels like they've done their bit - now the goalposts are being moved by a government who don't follow their own rules and guidelines.
I was (I thought tactfully) trying to put forward the case for boosters to be met with a pretty vitriolic tirade from a few good mates.
What surprised me was that it was all kicked off by a mate who is a fellow health worker asking a group of non health workers what they were planning on doing - as he hadn't had it and didn't know whether or not it was worth it.
Based on that interaction, I'm a bit pessimistic about what booster uptake might be like across certain demographics - the "Josh Taylors" - young, healthy males who would rather take their chances, leaving boosters and the like to the vulnerable.
There seems to be quite a lot of people who feel that way about boosters. I could understand it to a point if it was a major hassle getting it done but I was in and out in 20 minutes max, the fact that they’re double vaccinated means they understand the need for vaccines and a booster was always on the cards from the very beginning.
We're only seeing the answer to a question here and not the line of questioning that illicited the response. Or more simply half the story.
What would be the outcome if he (any interviewee) had refused to answer? He says any more and he's in trouble with the parliamentary authorities.
I think anyone with an ounce of common sense will see from what's already been said this weekend by anyone connected to either government that further restrictions are inevitable.
We're only too familiar with that scenario here on hibs.net, outrage/speculation and folk howling at the moon over something that might or might not happen.
As well as the idea that they're unnecessary, I also think there's likely to be a feeling amongst younger generations that the boosters are wasted on them, and NHS attention should be focused elsewhere. Of course, in the long run boosters will ensure NHS attention can be focused elsewhere, so it's kind of a paradoxical argument for anyone to make, but I do fear, like you, that many people will simply patch getting their booster jab because they are fed up with it all
I will get round to getting mine probably in the early New Year, but I do hope at that point, especially if we are past the worst of the Omicron variant wave by then, that there is an open and frank discussion from all governments on how to avoid even the threat of restrictions returning in the future, because like you say, I think people's patience is wearing thin now
Funny enough i'm in the same boat, voted for them for years but they certainly need a wake up call.
I do find the rhetoric coming out a bit over the top. Over in South Africa they now feel the initial reaction to the Omricon variant was OTT and symptoms are more like a mild cold, you wont hear that here though.
Got a few family members who also wont take the boosters, a couple older ones have been ill since having the two jabs and have refused the booster. i'll get the booster this time, but if it comes to next year and i need another one then i aint taking it, the numbers of people taking boosters will drop over time if the goverments keep moving the posts.
I think the howling at the moon chat is so offensive, I guess your job won't be effected by any restrictions. There is people on here who's jobs could becin danger a week before Christmas. So if people are angry worried and not wanting half messages they are quite entitled. Thank god hopefully my job isn't effected but it's getting on my wick people who are in safe jobs preaching to people who are having a stressful time
It's not exclusive to the uk. Isreal had 60 od % double dosed but have topped out at 40% boosted, us is slowing at around 20%. Definitely won't be 100% of people who got 2 doses that get booster. If South Africa gets through it with no boosters given, numbers will plummet in alot of nations
It's not the govt who keep moving the goalposts it's the scientists. There's a number of vaccines that are done over 3 doses. The problem was that this vaccine had to be brought in so quickly they knew it was safe but they hadn't had the years of study to know how the antibodies would do, that's been done over the past year with the whole world as a study group. Thankfully as its saved millions of lives.
NHS Scotland website update now so you can select 30-39 years old. Can't find anywhere in Edinburgh with any appointments though for this week.
