Looks like they were looking for documents releated to nuclear weapons/materials.
Interesting.
Is there such a crime as treason in the USA, and can it carry the death penalty?
(Pretty sure it's the only crime in the UK that can carry the death penalty although I'm no lawyer).
Don't think that's ever been true in the UK. Currently there are no crimes that carry the death penalty (treason carries a prison sentence: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_t..._Kingdom#Today), and the last folk hanged before it was abolished were convicted of murder.
EDIT – further reading tells me it was the case up until 1998:
No idea about the US.Quote:
Beheading was abolished as a method of execution for treason in 1973. Hanging, however, remained available until 30 September 1998 when, under a House of Lords amendment to the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, proposed by Lord Archer of Sandwell, the death penalty was abolished for treason and piracy with violence, replacing it with a discretionary maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
I was glancing through twitter last night and came across a thread which I initially thought was just more made up BS. So I had a wee look and see if the thing it was claiming was true. And I am just not sure having seen the photos now!
Anyway, the tweet tagged in the FBI and when something like. "Dear @FBI, If I were you I would be getting a warrant to exhume Ivana Trumps coffin! I am pretty sure it would not normally take 10 pall bearers to lift a surprisingly huge coffin (for who was a relatively small 73 y.o. woman). Just saying."
Now go and google "Pictures of Ivana Trumps funeral" and tell me that isn't a huge box of stolen documents being planted on his New Jersey golf course! For any normal human I would ignore it but this is Trump :greengrin
Apologies for the macabre nature of this post.
Reports saying documents recovered were top secret and classified. Trump says they were unclassified.
Who to believe 🙄

..or he's committed so many crimes its only a matter of time before he got sloppy.
Funny Rees-Mogg says he's the UKs greatest ally yet its possible he's been selling nuclear secrets to the country which was home to the 9/11 bombers.

Statements from Trump HQ seem to be taking the line that as President he can point at documents and suddenly they are declassified, rendering the need for 'paper pushing beaurocrats' or any of that due process stuff, irrelevant.
Hopefully that is tested in court...
Unbelievably the late night news from the BBC last night was implying that this strengthens his support and also his run for presidency again. Americans are off their heads and beyond saving if that is true
I wonder if going after corrupt former political leaders might one day be seen as acceptable behaviour in the UK too.
at least she can hold her head high Rep. Liz Cheney loses her primary in Wyoming to Trump-backed challenger (nbcnews.com)
That's the last line of defence now. The Trumpanzees began by saying the FBI planted documents. Then they switched to saying the documents were never classified. Now they are saying the documents were actually top secret, but a president can de-classify anything at any time. Actually that isn't true, there is a protocol to follow when de-classifying documents. Furthermore, some documents e.g. nuclear secrets, are so sensitive, a president can't unilaterally de-classify them. Anything de-classified means that it's available for anyone to see. Trump is therefore arguing that top secret documents were declassified on the spot, thus in theory any American could have had instant access to them. That's nonsense of course; there is a process. A desperate defence.
4:59 p.m. Documents marked top secret are instantaneously de-classified so Trump can take them home.
5.00 p.m. If Chuck the welder from Pittburgh asks to see those documents, that perfectly okay now. Aye right.

Allowing extreme ideologies representation leads to more extremism every time.
