Just a curiosity but have Millwall actually paid all of Nisbets fee or do they still owe us some.

I’ve no idea when I called Triantis crap, if I did though I’d hazard a guess it was when he was playing crap as I’ve praised him heavily this season.
Given he was part of the squad you were adamant weren’t good enough to finish any higher than 8th though then it’s not a stretch to suggest that even if you didn’t claim it regarding him personally, he was part of the “horrendous squad” you repeatedly told us about that Pep Montgomery could simply have never been expected to do any better with.
Let’s also keep in mind that you told us all we were getting relegated this season when you were preaching about our poor squad after Montgomery got sacked if we really want to drag up old posts. :aok:
Signings so far:
Aberdeen: 4
Hearts: 6
Hibs: 2
34 days until our first competitive game.
My concern is that Triantis is vital to the way we play and replacing him will be difficult.
This doesn’t mean that Manneh or someone else can’t step up to the plate of course. But Triantis has the experience as a CH to sense danger and drop in whenever we looked stretched at the back.
Only reason we suffer is because clubs excluding Celtic keep accepting low offers for their players. Vente is a bit different due to wanting to leave being out of contract ect. But Scottish clubs need to do better at holding out for more money across the board. Only way we can start commanding higher fees.
Our best players from last year -
Iredale (signed on deadilne day at 11pm)
Triantis (signed on deadline day at about 9pm)
Rocky (was here the season prior)
Nicky Cadden (signed in August)
Boyle (was here the season prior)
Gayle (signed after the window shut)
Our earliest signings last year. -
O'Hora (I think he had an okay season, some not sold on him though)
Ekpiteta (didn't contribute after November)
Bursik (utterly hopeless)
Sometimes you have to wait and make sure. There's no reason to go and rush a centre half or striker in because you need a body. The best players in our price ranges will have suitors and patience will be required.
The thing is that clubs in other leagues have their finances bolstered by much better TV and media deals than the SPFL and other more advantageous income sources, so have that buffer where they can hang on a bit and wait for better offers. Every SPFL club bar Celtic is working on a financial knife edge, which severely weakens their negotiating strength. Until we get more sustainable finance across the board we'll continue to be the Cinderellas of the transfer market.
If you compare us to comparable leagues we are still making less. Austrian bundesliga made 93 million in sales last year we only made 68 million. Even on a team basis look at Bodo who play in a worse league than us. They are achieving upwards of 10 million for some players. Yes, there European exposure has helped but they are realistically a small team than us in most senses.
I think that's the kind of attitude that's seen the 3rd place team struggle to retain it next season. Just because we had a brilliant end to the season doesn't mean we can stand still. We should be looking to improve all the time, which I'm sure we are!
Currently we are probably worse than last season squad wise. So some big holes to fill!
Did someone not say on here we gave the players out of contract a deadline date to agree new deal so we can move on?
I think it's what known in finance as a virtuous circle - you generate more money, you get better players and/or spend more in developing young talent, you qualify for Europe and better players give you a better chance of getting group stages, you have some success and get noticed by the big fish in the pond, they buy your players for big bucks, rinse and repeat.
I took consistent abuse each of those windows for being pretty relaxed about us doing business and getting the right players in, not just to specific timetable. I’m pretty relaxed again.
Everyone at the club will be well aware of what we want and what is or might become available.
This usually degenerates into suggestions we don’t realise we need players, we actively don’t want to sign players or we are too skint to sign players. None of those things are true.

Kevin Nisbet is not a Hearts target, @HeartsStandard_ understands.
Latest as Derek McInnes and the club remain hopeful of convincing Lawrence Shankland that his future lies at Tynecastle Park.
I thought shankland had gone to west brom?
