When I first moved here I happened to see a program from the 80's (Reagan years) and the Evangelicals were pushing it then and promising to demolish the Dome of The Rock! And I recall Ted Cruz, one of the Republican candidates, in a 2016 town hall meeting just prior to his dropping out of the race being asked what are the five things he would do on first first day in office should he win. 'Move the capital of Israel to Jerusalem'. Although him having this thought did not shock me, I was surprised it was on his must do list on his first day in office.
I did not know that anyone actually believed there was a real 'peace process' going on. Israel's peace agreements in my mind have been modelled on the American 'peace policies' with the native American tribes. Perhaps not consciously but in effect. 'Sign the treaty' and before the ink is dry let more settlers move into the native lands and when the tribes fight back get involved to protect the settlers. Then have another peace treaty and so on and so on.
In the US government if you even propose that some defence intelligence contracts, held by Israel, are put out for tender it can end your career. Israel actually controls 100% of some defence intelligence areas here and is even responsible for over 80% of the cell phone billing, which is not carried out by the service providers. Check out AIPIC.
The power of the media and press here is oppressive and corrupt to extreme levels and it is no coincidence that both major parties constantly voice their strong and unwavering support of Israel.
