Two I'd imagine.

It will be vaccine, immunity from past disease or lateral flow test
"Horrendous" scenes at a park in Nottingham as crowds of hundreds gather.

Had my first dose of AZ a couple of hours ago. Absolutely fine and most of my time there was spent waiting on the jag site to stop bleeding. Arm feels fine. It’ll be interesting to see if I have any side effects. Quite a few people at work have had bad reactions that have kept them off for a couple of days.
I did. Easy to find and well signposted. Interestingly, I tried to change my appointment online and I couldn’t get anything other than the odd appointment at Gorebridge that looked like cancellations anywhere in the Lothians up to the end of May (it wouldn’t let me go further than this). It wasn’t busy when I was there so I reckon the shortages must be pretty bad.
You’re the first person I’ve heard of who’s had any bleeding. When I
got mine a few weeks ago I was waiting for a plaster and asked the nurse if I was getting one. She said there was no need as they are using very fine needles that rarely cause bleeding. There was obviously no bleeding on my arm but I hadn’t even looked down.
The Arboretum (pictured) is adjacent one of the universities and a lot of student accommodation (and my office). It's natural that students havingbeen stuck indoors are going to want to get outside, no doubt.
The local authorities seemed taken by surprise. There are police out today though as there is a no-alcohol rule in the city's public spaces. Students in this city are manna for the local rag and their clickbait stories. The students certainly never disappoint in that respect though. On this occasion leaving the park like a complete craphole. Quite literally with human faeces in some areas.
There is a great deal of tension between the local community and it's large population of students in accommodation. I don't think it's going to end well, especially for some students.

I wonder how long this can continue before the reputation of the AZ vaccine is irreparably damaged. 30+ cases of a rare blood clotting condition in people under 63 with a number of deaths leaves me feeling a bit worried about taking the jab and I'm certainly not anti vaxx by an stretch. I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread that Norway were considering stopping use of AZ indefinitely.
Even if it was the vaccine that caused it and any fears or links should 100% be looked into, it's 31 cases out of 2.7m, that's about 0.00001% I'd imagine the odds of most pharmaceuticals causing a negative effect in people would be the same or higher
Not sure of the stats on people who develop that issue in a regular year are either
Quite possibly the most shocking aspect to this story.
Young people wishing to socialise after being stuck inside for so long, whilst wrong in the current climate, is certainly understandable.
Taking a dump in a public park is just disgusting, there is absolutely no excuse for that.

Also a 10 times greater risk if your on the pill and a 1000 times greater risk if you have Covid. Norway and Germany seeing terrible spikes of covid and clots, they are not seen in countries with low covid rates
Question.
I know nothing about blood clots. Is a feeling of pins and needles a possible sign of a clot?
4,040 cases and 56 deaths registered in the UK today.
Does that incidence rate take into account that this is thus far a problem largely being seen only in younger people? Of the 2.7m vaccinated how many are under 60?
I accept it will likely still be a miniscule number and if I was offered a vaccine tomorrow I'd still take it. However I'm not sure the AZ vaccine will ever have the confidence levels in Europe now that are required for it to be the workhorse we all hoped it would be.
Agreed.
I'll repeat what I said the last time this issue was raised, I agree that the concerns should be looked into but 31 cases out of 2.7 million doses won't have me panicking just yet and I think again some comparisons with the side effects of other medication would be helpful here.
That I couldn't tell you, it's a valid point, I have had a pretty iffy past with vaccines be it tetanus or my BCG, they just didn't agree with me for some reason, I'm guessing there are a few people in the same boat, so some concern is natural but you just need to decide if you trust the science and perceived odds I suppose
On a whole the continent and the stats I've seen from France show low uptakes of vaccines at the best of times, you can probably get away with that for flu etc, but when it's a global affair that's snookering everyone then they better come up with a good way to communicate it and stories like this really won't be helping
It was never be the workhorse of Europe they like us will be done late summer. Its the workhorse of the world, 70 million of it already given in India, 20 million given in Brazil, 10 million in Indonesia. Covax used million although not enough in poorer countries also
After concerns Europe has paused it. They will do checks this week. They don't expect to vaccinate anyone under 60 for months so a pointless stop, as it's being used in over 75s just now. They have just asked for a 2.5 million loan of az from America until America roll it out in April. Germany also fighting uk for more doses. Both countries showing huge spikes and low vaccines, deflection might help.

Chise saying that study shows tcells recognise and are not effected by all variants so far and should recognise all future variants. Matches isreal saying yesterday variants don't affect vaccine in there trails. Early days but unbelievably exciting, covid would be over in uk in 2021.
Noticed matt Hancock yesterday saying could be travel "We’re not yet sure, but we’re doing the science in Porton Down, and watching very closely, and if that all goes well, then we haven’t got a problem and then we’ll be much more relaxed about international travel. We will know more over the next few weeks"
He seemed more positive wonder if they are seeing tentative results

None, I believe. It really is odd. Norway, with good reason has suspended use of the vaccine because of 6 cases in younger healthcare workers in doses that come to the hundreds of thousands. In the UK 14 million doses with no increase in thromboses and though we have vaccinated the elderly predominantly, we have vaccinated about 30% of 30 to 49 year olds with no increase in clots. Something doesn't fit.
Hopefully the 4 week pause when we give second dose vaccinations to the most vulnerable will allow more information to become available and allow our younger population to make an informed choice about vaccines.
this year has shown you'd be daft to predict more than a month at a time with covid. But yes they are showing themselves to be unbelievable. There's lots of tweets resurfacing old messages of prominent people saying last year they can't see a vaccine having much effect on covid. I think this is unbelievably unkind as nobody could have predicted. I read someone from from pfizer say they reckon they have crammed in 7 years of Scientific development this year, thanks to money and man power
