Because we're not progressing. If anything, we're starting to go backwards again...we can't compete with Ireland or Ireland...England game was close, but even against Wales and Italy we had large spells of totally switching off. Ill discipline a constant issue, poor decision making, star players making stupid mistakes...Townsend has developed us but I don't see us continuing to develop. He'd leave with my best wishes, but if we want to seriously compete against the big nations, change is needed. As I said in a longer earlier post though, that change isn't going to come from replacing 1 man. The entire rugby setup in Scotland needs an overhaul for the future.
Oh, no arguments (see above). But if Carley and the TMO get that decision correct today, playing against 14 men (as it should have been) puts France on a back foot, theoretically tires them easier. It's at least a closer contest.
The lack of clinical finishing, mistakes, ill discipline and poor decision making has cost us today, not the referee. But it's a massive factor in the margin of victory IMO.
Player “speared”……player hammered with no arm tackle…..wtf????
Ach well, at least England didn’t win.
Mmmm i should read the full article
What is a 20-minute red card? How new rugby law works in Six Nations
i see the French and Irish are against it
p.s. apols Jones28
That was one of the worst ref and TMO performances I have seen in Rugby, thought they were looking for excuses not to make it a straight red. The French Co commentator said the Scottish player was at it, Unbelievable!
And we thought VAR and referees were bad in football.
The 20-min red card is for "technical offences" ie during play, where there was no intent to harm. The whistle had gone a good 2 seconds before the assault on White. It therefore couldn't be a 20-minute red card coming as it did when the ball was dead. The ref and bunker official bottled it 'cos it was either a yellow or a straight red, the latter IMO.
Sorry but Townsend has to go. Hes had multiple chances. Get Franco Smith in and Townsend back to Glasgow if he wants.
The star players are nearing the end of their prime, it’s now or never and with Townsend in charge it’ll be the same again next year
It's been a disappointing tournament . Games have turned on poor descions made by match officials , but Scotlands inability to turn pressure into points has once again come back to haunt us . In other spots the coach/ manager carries the responsibility for performances and results so replacing Townsend will certainly be an option that will be considered , can't go on making the same tired excuses for not wining games
I see Mauvaka has predictably now been cited by World Rugby...
Refs and TMO need questioned here too - a citing now doesn't help us one bit, and all of them got it badly wrong over the space of about 12-15 minutes to look at it between the replays on screen and bunker review and STILL got it wrong.
It stinks.
French hooker has now been formally cited and will face a 3-man disciplinary panel on Thursday. Not certain how that procedure works these days. I think there is an independent Citing Officer appointed to each match who has 48 hours to review incidents that he thinks MAY not have been dealt with appropriately by the match officials, which I presume must now include the official in the bunker.
.....and he is given a 6-match ban, reduced to 3 matches because HE ADMITTED foul play and has a clean disciplinary record.
Presume the referee Matthew Carley and more crucially the bunker review official Ian Tempest will be obliged to undertake further training before officiating at Tier 1 level again.
Interestingly both are from England so I'm surprised they were even appointed given that the outcome of the France-Scotland match would determine whether or not England won the Championship. Could they perhaps subconsciously have erred on the side of caution for fear of being accused of favouring Scotland to facilitate an England win? Who knows, but surely for the last round of the 6NC, when the Championship is on the line, it should be entirely neutral officials i.e. from outwith the 6 Nations.
