If these two lunatics go at it and our government "lend their support" to the Americans, there will be riots in this country.

Not everyone would agree.

So now he's threatening to disband the government to stop them getting in the way

North Korea have just detonated a 100KT hydrogen bomb, resulting in a 6.3 magnitude earthquake...
Be interesting to see how Trump, China and Japan respond to this.
I doubt more talks/sanctions will be an option this time around - the bomb was 5x the size of the one that levelled Nagasaki.
I'm confused as to what the North Koreans are trying to achieve. This can only end one way for them surely?
The heated rhetoric about attacking Guam, the missile fired over Japan and now this. Do they believe they can win (or more accurately not be the only loser in a war)? Given Beijings apparent cooling attitude towards them it looks like they would be going up against South Korea, Japan, the US and other NATO countries in isolation.
With Donald Trump in the other corner the whole situatiom makes me somewhat nervous. Two megalomaniacs facing each other down with nuclear warheads as the weapon of choice. That can't end well.
I've often asked myself that and tried looking at it from their point of view.
Maybe all they're doing is trying to reassure their people, and themselves that they can at least bargain with all these other countries who have nuclear warheads pointing in their direction...countries who are backed by an imperialist power who thinks it's the policeman of the world and has a habit of meddling in the affairs of countries who don't do things the way they like.
:dunno:
I think you've nailed the answer yourself with the bit in bold. It's hubris coupled with face-saving, rather than rational policy. They believe their self-promoting, self-penned narrative to the extent that no other truth is apparent.
It's like an enactment of the legend of King Canute, basically.
It's not about North Korea trying to achieve anything: they can't "win" any war. I think, it's simply about Kim saying don't mess with North Korea and do not try to remove me from power, as in Libya, Iraq etc? He's basically trying to hold onto power - there is method in his "madness".
I think you're close. The North Korean leader might look stupid but he's not. You don't have to look that far back in time to see what happens to rogue nations who have tried pacifying the US by playing along with their disarmament demands. The government are well aware that they're on the hit list with or without nukes so they might as well try and obtain the best nukes that they can.
The North Koreans motivation isn't discussed often enough. They want to retain their Stalinist dictatorship of power. They know the US dont want North Korea to continue as a Stalinist dictatorship. A peace treaty has never been signed since the end of the Korean war. They are surrounded by 4 hostile powers who are all armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons. The UN has imposed the toughest sanctions possible which is making the country poorer by the day. The US and the South are carrying out military ops right on the border, dropping propaganda leaflets from the air and blasting audio across the DMZ, and exercises simulating a decapitation strategy (taking out the NK leadership and hoping the regime collapses without a figurehead). There are reports of a poor harvest and the peasants are back to eating grass. Showing they have military power is all they have left for their domestic and their international audience. Its fairly rational on their part.
After Cuba and Venezuela respond to this cretins speech, The Iranian president gives the leader of the "free world" a dressing down.
He's some nerve calling Kim Jong Un a "rocket man".
This is the man who is basically saying "We don't like the way you live. Embrace democracy (oligarchy) or we'll bully you either economically or with big rockets".
I don't think we truly understand what's coming our way.
It appears the Britain First tweets that Trump retweeted were of a riot in Egypt involving people being pushed off a roof, so radical Islam wasn't even involved, and a serious assault that was investigated by police and the culprit was charged and jailed, but religion wasn't a factor. :dunno: A sad bit of racist fake news.
I'm surprised the Trump bar could've been set any lower, he's managed to do it though.
I remember growing up during the testy Cold War period and being aware of the issues and how we could have been close to war. I have a genuine concern that this ****ing conceited narcissist is going to drag us I to a major war, whether that is with N Korea or some Other country/countries that he has taken a dislike to. Where is Lee Harvey Oswald when you need him?
I was going to ask how much crazier and provocative can he get but I’m scared of the answer.
It’s only a matter of time before someone takes this guy out Kennedy style.
